Limsa Idlers should be removed.

The amount of people still just afking in Limsa all day are honestly some of the worst offenders within this launch, the servers are in SHambles as is and you see the same faces in Limsa not playing the game afking. Just make it to they can't log in for like 4-5 hours, ez

This is downright absurd suggestion and one of those wasted post that gets ignored. I had high hopes you would come up with a good resolution but no. Immaturity is all I read.
Why? Because there are people with RL responsibility. For instance, a player who has a child who suddenly falls. They are considered "AFK" and gets punished for 4-5 hours? I hope you enjoy your 4-5 hours queue for this absurd suggestion.
Instead: I hope the AFK timer goes down to 10 minutes. At least TEMPORARY until the hype dies down it can go back to 15-20 or even 30, however, I really advice SE to really look into the 'cheating' how to remain logged in whilst asleep.
Cutscenes - people can AFK in one dialogue for 8 hours and it assumes it's in cutscene, false. Go to an inn and play a cutscene, way to go congesting the world. Speaking to an NPC.
I think the most important thing is; whether cutscene or not. If there is no interacion with mouse/keyboard after 30 minutes ir should boot because there is no cutscene that you'd auto-play that'd take 30 minutes or longer.
This would automatically if I consider it correct right where if you speak to an NPC and have a junkmongrel's vendor open or speak to an NPC- if there is no interaction with it, or summon bells, after 30 mins it should boot people out.

You can't really police something like this. How do you distinguish between someone who is AFK for a "legitimate" reason vs someone who is AFK just "taking up space"? What if you're talking to your FC, but making dinner at the same time? You chat for a bit, go check your dish, come back to chat some more, etc? Is that wrong of them to do? I wouldn't say so. They're well within their right.

The 30 min timer is sort of the best case scenario. Sucks that it's easy to cheese, but it is what it is.

I was playing earlier this morning, but had to logout because I had a pretty bad headache. Haven't been able to get back on sense. Wish I would, but oh well. We gonna be alright.

edit: Oh, apparently if you're speaking to an NPC or have a vendor window open, it doesn't log you out? Well, in that case, yeah that's kinda ridiculous haha. I didn't know. Whoops.

Easy, lower the kick time to 10min, find some way to implement a box you need to click to remain online. Restart servers randomly Have it move randomly.. i know ways to bypass the afk timer, this is about the only way your gonna clean it up. And tbh not my fault if you have things to do. 10min is plenty fair.

I mean I'm mostly poking fun, this always happens every MMO launch, but if you wanna be anal and call people immature you got it my guy go off. I just dont see the need to name call honestly

Another thing worth considering is if people were getting kicked more frequently due to inactivity the login queues would move faster as well. Especially since a majority of the idling offenders are people dodging the auto logout finding ways to stay logged in for hours or days when they have no actual plans to play the game during that time.

Let me correct myself for not having read your post as a 'troll post' instead since that is more mature apparently; I was very bummed you didn't make a serious post about it as it is a serious issue and it'd be helpful for others to voice in their opinions.
So I was indeed disappointed and now even more than before knowing this. But I digress. I hope they will do something about it.

I dunno, restarting servers is fine on paper, but then you're punishing legitimate players by interrupting their experience so you can free up an undetermined about of space. And then everyone is gonna try to log back on at the same time causing more errors. Just seems like it does more harm than good. 10 min seems a bit restrictive in my opinion, but to each their own. I'm rarely, if ever, afk longer than 10 min. If I am, I'm probably not coming back anyway so doesn't bother me any. Then again, I don't have any kids or other immediate responsibilities that might keep away for that long. 30 min is fair to me, but to each their own. We could argue about that to hell and back.

Similarly, I don't see the need to create thread after thread of mindless moaning, whining, completely over the top suggestions and attacks on people that "afk in limsa", because god forbid you stand still for 5 minutes and go make yourself a cup of coffee.

Or god forbid you spend some time just chatting with FC members.

Or whatever other reason they might have to stand around in limsa, maybe that's just what they enjoy doing?

This seriously. The only complaint I personally have had is the dancers etc afk for 1+ hrs while there are 7k+ in my server.

Oh my gosh! You are correct if memory serves. Every time prior to this bots have trouble logging in especially if on free accounts, though I could be wrong, but it did happen a few months ago. When the servers for NA were under higher load there were literally no bots. This means I wont see 60 lala sandworms in costa del sol or the onslaught teleporting through the floor in the adventurers guild in Gridania.

I keep seeing this complaint, but when I go to limsa I only recognize like 2 faces and they're there for maybe 20min before they go and do something which is just fine?? I dont get the seething. The people standing there/dancing or whatever are likely talking in their fc/cwls. I dont know if you know this, but an expansion just dropped. There's so much to do, a lot of people don't even know where to start. So yeah, there's gonna be a lot of talking between friends about who's tried what and what's the fastest way to do xyz-etc. and if they're not talking, they're probably making food, eating it, or taking a dump-maybe even all, ideally in that order. It's actually not a crime to defecate in your own toilet. Not even on company time-you can get paid to do it, if you play your cards right.

A month ago free trial accounts were allowed to log in ^^
No free trial accounts are allowed to be prioritized to log in
(i.e. they probably cannot log in but are the main reason the queue is long for trying)
I am so glad I made your day, you made my day.

Not white knightin but Limsa happens to be the spot where a regular normal player can most quickly swap worlds and do shopping/repair crafts.

What you might find is a lot of them aren't AFK, they just in private messages.

Like it or not, it's a tradition in FFXIV that the folks who want to stand around and be social do so by the Limsa Aetheryte.

I wish they'd pick somewhere less busy, like roughly the same spot on the other floor of Limsa... but it is what it is.

Lower the timer, and maybe only a fifth of them would vanish.

I don't care what map people are in, if they're just standing around chatting or whatever, that's their business. I just care if they really are AFK and not able to respond to the game -- and if so, get rid of them. Ideally, in exceptionally busy times such as these, I would prefer if those who basically treat FFXIV like a glorified chat channel or Discord server would conscientiously log off and use alternate means of communication with their friends. There are those of us who are actually trying to play FFXIV as a game and explore its content. But, we can't micro-manage such interactions and it's not Square Enix's job to judge what the "right" way to play the game is. That is a very slippery slope if ever there was one.

Making the AFK timer shorter is not the solution, either -- at least, not an adequate one. It doesn't matter how short the timer is, because for those who know how to exploit or use 3rd-party programs it might as well be infinite. In that case, you are only inconveniencing legit players. I saw a character standing in the Ul'dah airship landing, who would jump every few seconds. I thought he was just excited about something, but I came back there hours later and he was still there jumping. It doesn't matter if the timer is 3 hours or 3 minutes, that dude's character will still be there mindlessly jumping and taking up server space.

We need a real solution that requires a thinking human to respond. I assume something like a CAPTCHA or multiple-choice question prompt would suffice, but since I've never seen anything like this used in a game I wonder if there is a reason it's not already implemented. If we could get this to work, it could potentially solve a lot of problems and even allow honest players to step away for a while with the expectation that it won't be a problem to log back in later.

This all day.

If people want to afk to do their business/make coffee/phone call/etc okay, go for it

If they log in to afk Dance and are using an auto macro or other means to bypass the idle check while others are waiting to get in, they deserve to get thrown in GM jail

There's a world of difference between idle timer dodging when the server loads are stable and doing it when there's thousands of players in queues waiting to play the game.
