If you're talking about Castrum and Praetorium, there's a reason those particular styles of dungeons were not used again.

Personally I actually find trials enjoyable in 8 man rather than 4-man trials
Really? I queued as DPS and was in the trial within 5 minutes, no problemo. This was day 1 but later in the day so not like I was rushing or anything either.
I was into the trial in 10 minutes and out in another 20. All things considered, I was real happy. Had some baaaad experiences with Titania last time around...
I agree with you that Trusts should be available for story mode trials. With that being said, (Systemic and nonstory) spoilers below:
Trust compatibility for the level 89 trial has been added. No wait times, and you have a limited amount of deaths in order to prevent full resets like how it happens in Dungeons. You start off with 2 free deaths, then I think it goes up to 3 if you happen to wipe. I really appreciate how in depth they went with this and I would LOVE to see them expand on this system further in future fights. It sucks that they're not available for the earlier trial though.
This has been the format since...Heavensward. It's early access weekend. Not everyone is there yet. If they didn't announce they were going to change it in Endwalker I doubt they are gonna change it in the future.
Why would you assume something new that literally thousands of players are also progressing through must have an hours+ long wait time?
