It seems that SE has finally figured out how to implement escort quests and is determined to have multiple ones in every single zone.
Especially during the MSQ.

I gotta say, I'm only atv83 right now and I absolutely hate these ecscort missions. Just feel like unnecessary padding , please tell me it's not like this thru the whole story.
I agree, I don’t really like this unnecessary addition. I feel as if this is a petty attempt to punish players who just skip cutscenes and speed run to the end.
Its like this throughout the story, so far. And I love it. Forced slow downs are wonderful. Just dont go too fast and you will have no problem with the NPC keeping it up. I wish they would add an NPC to each dungeon that if you run too far away from them, you have to wait for them to catch up.
Yoshi P was actually quite proud of this new feature, bragging about how when an NPC tells you they will travel with you, they actually do it now.
Well different strokes for different folks and all that, I'm typically a go fast kind of guy so perhaps that's what's so jarring for me
I think it was a nice feature. At least I personally enjoyed it.
Almost as if the story is kinda important in this game and maybe if you're speeding through it you're doing it wrong (in this case anyway-I blame no one for skipping through post-ARR and the more boring parts of Stormblood).
I understand people like different things... but this seems like such a small thing to complain about that just makes those people seem idk... ungrateful?
Mofos lucky yall even playing with those login queues
Yeah, I was actually excited when first encountering this. It's neat, mixes up the quest pacing a bit.
Sure, it may be a kind of padding. But that's fine. If it lets me spend more time with the new content without burning through it, there's not really any need to be speeding through the quests.
I think it adds a nice new variant in the storytelling, and having optional conversations for those that want to spend a few words more with their favorite npcs is neat.
Heaven forbid they do something new. I think it's actually pretty cool a nice addition.
Looks like I'll auto-walk everywhere with a max level fisher and tab out instead of auto-run and tab out. Forcing me to slow down is not going to make me take in sights any more than allowing me to speed through. I already ignore the work they put into the environments by using a max level fisher to ignore every mob and auto-running when I look for aethercurrents and I'll just continue to ignore the work they put in but for escort quests too.
I think it's so cool to really feel like I'm going on an adventure with my friends the Scions, talking to Graha'Tia or walking around Sharlayan with friend Alphinaud and Alisae, the good friend.
I must admit that I was quite surprised when I felt like using the Urban Aetheryte, to find myself going to look for them.
But, I still think it's cool, it should be improved a bit to be able to use it when you want Urban Tp, otherwise I say great!
It goes in the same direction as the Trust System which allows us to live the MSQ as a real adventure with the Scions.
I would be ok with them if the npc teleported to you when you got to far .. instead of teleportiong away xD
I don't see anything wrong with letting the npc follow us for larger distances and be able to teleport alongside us. Hopefully moving forward in 7.0 we get a party that sticks around with us for even longer, similar to Dragon Age Origins or something along those lines.
If you just want to rush the story, everything that slows you down, be it escort quests or not, will make you rage.
If you play it slow and enjoy the music and the scenery, escort quest is not that bad. It reminds me of old JRPG where you have your party members tagging behind you, and you will want to lead them EVERYWHERE possible for extra dialogues or secrets.
you joke i hope. or next you say that if people skip a dialing you want the game to boot them out?
or just let people play how they like? not all have time to play 24/7 like you. not all love the story and as one that do its a BIG hit and miss this time. way to much stupid unrealistic things (in universe that is). its not shadow bringers or Heavensward.
If the NPCs ported with you to the final destination so you had the option to miss the 'flavor text' it would be less annoying.
It's just a way of adding some time onto the total time required to complete the MSQ, tastefully if annoyingly done.
It was nice the first time. Tedious every other time.
What's even worse is the sneak behind and follow people crap.
The non combat minigames are definitely getting tiresome.
As much as I've been defending SE recently...yeah, escort missions are never a good thing, regardless of how they're implemented.
So THAT story isn't important then? Only the parts of the story you say are? I hate to tell you this, but I've gained two levels so far in the xpac and I think I've had like 10 fights with animals in the wild. I gained almost the entirety over over two levels from doing quests where I run to someone and talk, then watch a cutscene, then run to the next guy and talk and watch a cutscene. I'm straight up bored right now.
hah i saw this meme comming, i made a joke earlier about how yoshi wanted two more weeks to get the stealth stalking perfect :p
its a joke :p
Also that one thing with the takedowns made me think of tenchu :p
Im not gonna lie, its allready for me the shittiest new feature from this expansion and the worst feature ever added since the release of this game. Its crap and u cant even take shortcuts via teleport because you will lose the npcs following you and return to the start to get them back. Biggest bullshit ever
I really don't understand how anyone likes this mechanic. I mean I guess walking with people around town is okay but this red light/green light stay hidden BS is really getting old and is starting to adversely affect my enjoyment of this expansion despite how strong the story is. Surely I'm not the only one that feels this way.
Agree with the sentiment that the first time, it was cool. The third time within one XP level was tedious...
I also sat in a 20 minute duty queue while running MSQ and accepted near the end of one of these escorts only to find I had lost quest progression. Decent idea, awful implementation.
They'd be better if the NPCs didn't randomly ascend into the sky or fall into the ocean and get stuck.
First couple were fine, but it got old fast. Can't mount, can't use aetheryte. If DF pops mid quest, you have to go back and start all over again.
I personally love the fluff walking-with-the-npc thing. This game expac is a single-player experience, and the more immersive they can make it, the better. The only thing I dislike is that I can't really make the npcs do emotes on g-pose, otherwise it's been fun trying to get selfies with the scions! It's fluffy, it's cringey, but it's very cute. <3
I never had an instance where they got lost nor that I felt they are holding me back tbh? I bet the system could be improved, but imo the idea is not bad. At all.
And if you're in a hurry and just skipping... honestly, you're already making your experience quite miserable by rushing through things (like, i can't really see how people feel fun by blasting esc hours and hours but ok), I doubt this little of boredom sprinkled on top of your experience is such a huge deal regardless. I hope this system is expanded in the future.
That's how the game has always been though.
The "Walk around with an NPC following you" is fine.
The "follow someone and don't fall behind" is okay, unless they decide to RP-walk everywhere.
The "follow someone and if they spot you, start all over" is getting OLD. Fast.
Escort missions aren't too bad, but it's the stalking missions that age like milk. Maybe they wouldn't be so bad if they automatically dropped you back at the starting point if/when you fail them.
I'd enjoy it if the mobs could just go an extra 10 yalms before losing line of site and would just use (or, be teleported by) the aethernet when you do, and had their position persist regardless of going into duties or reappear at the latest step of the escort instead of the beginning only. Voila. Fixed.
I don't have a problem with escort quests. I'd rather do twenty of those than one more forced NPC duty. No I don't want to play as Thancred. No I don't want to play as Scions. I want to play as MY character. I want to play my BLM, MCH or whatever I choose to level...That Ranjit fight in SHB really soured me big time on these things and no amount of forcing me into other character roles will ever fix it.
Could be much worse, at least you don't have to beckon them.
I think this is the general theme they were trying to go at with this expac. You wait in a queue watching a little number go down, then you click on some text boxes and walk around a bit. Wash, rinse, repeat. I think even ARR has this beat. A bit of a shame thus far. I'm sure the rest of the story is good, but we can't really play it, and when we can, it's just a walking simulator.
Yes, these are the ones I have a problem with by far. The shit where they're following you isn't all that bad. I don't think it's this big game changing revolutionary experience like some do but it doesn't detract from the experience necessarily. The follow/hide stuff can gtfo though.
It's not that bad your kind of over reacting and being extra to be honest.
crappy out of place stealth level, escorting stupid AI, all we need at this point is a crappy water level then we will have the shitty holy trinity of video games......
