After waiting for 2 hours+ (log in queue) instead of being able to play I get this 2002 error?
Now when I try to try again I get the error instantly.
Are people able to log in and play? Cuz I haven't had any luck so far.

It depends on how busy your server may be. Error 2002 is related to server congestion long story short. I was having this issue nonstop earlier but it's gotten better now.
So I wont be able to play?
What about kicking all those ppl already going afk, flexing their glam, taking up server space from player who actually want to play the game
Try to log later I guess :/
Ahh I really don't wanna be "that guy" but its funny how when it comes to taking my money from my bank account (monthly fee) or even the money for the expansion there's ZERO delay and they get paid very quickly. Its weird how a multi billion dollar company can't get enough servers to run their game properly. As far as I know this is the 5th major expansion to this game? Yet they still didn't prepared properly for it?
I'm in the Shiva server and when I get to about 1k in the queue I get that error and have to start queueing up all over again.
It is what it is. They couldn't have predicted the massive influx of WoW refugees combined with a server shortage due to covid-19. Yoshi-P already said they tried to throw more money at the problem to no avail. There just aren't servers available to buy right now.
Supply chain issues and the global semi-conductor shortage is playing a large role in what's happening. Unfortunately, there's nothing Square can really do about it. The same reason why trying to buy a PC graphics card is all but impossible without paying massive scalped prices, is the same reason why they haven't been able to improve server infrastructure. It is what it is. I tried to log-in this morning around 5am, and I got the error 2002 a bunch of times. Instead of running to the forums to complain about it, on the first day of a massive expansion launch with the largest active playerbase XIV has ever had, I decided to try again in a couple of hours. Logged back on at 8am, got in with only a 44 person queue on my server(Aether DC as well), and the game has been perfectly stable since with zero disconnects.
I know mileage may vary but for me, this has been one of the smoother expansion launches I've ever been involved with. I've been around for numerous day 1 launches, including pretty much every WoW expansion that's ever released. I honestly expected far more issues than what I am currently seeing. No MSQ issues, no lag in the congested zones at all.
Well, if it makes you feel better, I had absolutely nightmare with random error 1st 2 hours. After I finally got through a 2k+ queue, I booted me with "Cannot load character" error. After 1-2 hour I finally got in the game. After approx 1 hour play, I got disconnected from server and put right back to the queue with 5k+... After approx. 2-3 hour on the queue, I finally able to play game with no issue so far.
You honestly don't think I tried multiple times before coming to the forums to "complain?" Get off your high horse. I basically did exactly what you did but unlike you I wasn't lucky and still waiting. It's perfectly normal to feel "scammed" you pay for a product you expect it to work period. I also made it very clear that I don't wanna be "that guy" but you can't blame me for feeling this way or anyone else having issues.
You're telling me that a multi billion dollar corporation wasn't aware of the influx of new players? C'mon now even you don't believe that lmao. This company makes bank off the mog station items and monthly fees, yet you're telling me they can't hire competent staff to work on the servers and make them better?
Another thing is the expansion was delayed by two weeks remember? Why not just delay it for 2 more weeks or even until early next year? This way they can sort of their problems with the servers and everyone can have a pleasant experience when the expansion finally launches.
My heart is not going to take another exit error at place ~300.
this is garbage , cant they limit the amount of pre-orders so the servers are manageable? hahahahaha sure why would they ,seems servers are one out one in atm, but its ok because they said it would happen AGAIN
Waited 2hrs. Got error 2002 when I was number 24... now im 7000......... meanwhile I can watch my friends screen looking at numerous ppl afking in the cities in their glam...
I think people are missing the point with comments about semi-conductor shortages. That's the reason we don't have more world servers. And while it sucks to be in a long queue, it is what it is.
It's the fact the login servers are unstable which is the problem here. Sitting in a long queue is part and parcel of a new MMO expansion launch, but just getting dumped out of your queue at any possible moment is really an unacceptable situation. Getting to play the games becomes a game of aluck rather than waiting. You can't even do anything else while waiting in your queue because you might come back to an error screen.
When I googled this it said that the cause was the firewall, so I checked my windows firewall , then tried relogging and I still couldn't get in so I went to webroot and allowed ALL processes to connect which I really don't like. THEN I was able to get in. I TRIED looking for the file to put it in to allow FF to play, but I could NOT find any file, couldn't even find anything that said square enix, and I KNOW they're on my PC. I looked under programs, downloads in windows. I'm lost, I'm NOT a computer nerd, I do good just being able to download stuff. IF I know what to look for or where I can usually find it, but I'm stumped!
im getting error 2002 when i click on the start button, and when i get in the queue. its very frustrating.
I was in a 4k player queue; came back every 30mins to make sure I wasn't being booted or anything. I was at player #37... Error 2002
Now I'm back in a 4k queue line. Homie like cmon; 2-3 hour wait for it just to reset. Bro they can take your money from the mogstation just like that; but they cant buy an extra box for their server launch. I'm getting too old for this talk; it should be common sense by now with launches. ffs it's just the early access too.
yeah thsi is very frustrating. i was just in a 3200 queue got down to 2300 and got kick out of queue. Square needs to do something about this.
I got 4900, 4000, 3800 earlier, it's around 3700 at this moment. That was after about 8x Error 2002 messages.
It's too bad Poor Disadvantaged Multi-Billion Dollar SquareEnix with their highly profitable FFXIV Franchise couldn't procure more Servers, so sad :(
Bc Covid-19, Semiconductor shortage, <insert more convenient excuses> and all that.
Talk about frustrating... Was literally 1 in queue.

I truly think if SE wanted more servers, they could get more servers. You get a lot of extra perks when your rich.
At least CDPR no longer has the worst videogame launch in history.
Like how your paying a sub to play and you can't even login because you get 2002 lobby error. They should stop with free trials and rent more servers. When play other mmo's sure don't have any problems not being able to login.
Be nice if they shut down trials for the week or so of a new launch. Even the queue being favored towards subs, it still bogs down the queue servers and doesn't help with them crashing.
Yea because a server is an app. >_>
Square can't afford to spend an extra million on launch costs; now half the folks can't even log on. Pretty sure Square had plenty of warning of the immigration from WoW as well. Don't these guys have a super successful cash shop that even I spent money on?
Edit: I dont want to be that guy; but I also dont want to be stuck on login window all day as well.
I spent an hour on and off trying to get my game to connect to the servers because I keep getting that 2002 error code as well. On top of that I spent 2 to 3 hours in q after just trying to get it to connect I got all the way to position 1 got the error code again and got put at the back of the line sadly I am slightly triggered not going to lie lol.
Guys, give Square Enix a break, they are a smol indie company, so even if they know something is going to happen (Error 2002, 4004), they can't fix it, or even impliment a system to where you don't lose your place every hour.
