Who's Jehovah and what did he witness?
Ergh.. yes. Though if I'm honest we're not supposed to play given it's magic occult. And I can tell you none of the other sisters or brothers know I play, but at the end of the day it's fiction and between me and Jehovah. I suppose you also made that decision?
That's strange. I'd get lectures about it being the occult, and violence if I told anyone. So I keep my games, and fictional interest to myself and a conscience matter.
I feel really bad for you, Nekaru. I can't imagine hiding something I enjoy from people I love out of fear that they'd give me flak about it being something immoral, anymore at least.
I used to be in the WMSCOG cult and they pretty much had a similar mindset (anything Worldly TM, was to be renounced as it was probably satanic in some way. this meant music, tv shows, movies, etc were typically frowned upon unless they were safe cookie cutter things.) It was exhausting, I hope eventually your heart leads you to greener pastures.
Be who you are & just delight on playing the game.
Life’s too short for BS & its not doing any harm to anyone.
You’ll never know, we have alot of FFXIV players from all backgrounds & beliefs & they might just be enjoying the game as much as you.
After all we’re human.
Not here to persuade you to act against your family wishes but you be you & have peace with yourself & never feel pressure to feel ashamed of your beliefs & stay content with the game & other’s.
PS: I am a Christian by the way & I can relate to you in some ways. Just remember, you are you & what’s bad & harming is what comes out of your heart with conviction to yourself & others.
PSS: Just remember some of our folk’s mentality are solely from a general that were resistant to change & sadly cannot dare to look beyond the world except all being bad & negative. Our heavenly father taughts us otherwise, to be in peace & only you can bring the good & worst outcome of your life, not the world’s.
The OP said that it's not a family issue lol.
I used to raid with a JW. He was a super chill dude and we kept in touch after that static fell apart. Good times.
Well, they took the Leeches spell out of the game, so no worries about blood transfusions.
Eorzea's about to celebrate Christmas, though.
Jehova hates magic and you're making him very sad by playing this game.

Seconded. That wouldn't be fun at all. I went to church and did Christian activities when I was growing up but I came to realize it wasn't teaching me to love, just to be against this or that. And I realized I never truly believed. So I was happy to escape those expectations.
*waves*
Been playing since late 2014ish. My sister has been playing since ARR launch.
I think the better question is, who's an actual practicing JW and who's in it because their family is, and still plays?
I'm baptized, and the family member that was in it has passed. So I'm still in it as one who still attends meeting, and whatnot but has chosen to play the game.
But I can tell you, the elders would not approve if they knew because of occult ties. It'd still be a conscience decision. But that wouldn't stop them from trying to 'suggest' bible verses and articles about how it's bad.
When i was just a baby. I was brought to the Church and the priest there placed water on my head and said something. However i cannot remember any of this, it is just a tale i heard from my parents. It may or not be true.
I have a question I've always wanted to ask a JW but never run into any. Have you actually witnessed Jehovah? If not, you can't call yourself a JW now can you? :p
Smells like a combination of r/iamverysmart and r/atheism circa 2007 in here.
^ yes, even if you are disagree with a religion there's no reason to be so disrespectful about it
Dude, I wasn't trolling. This is literally a thread where someone asks if fellow JWs play.
Mine may have brought up some practices, but it was in line with the question, that yes a JW that plays, but is not supposed to.
However the rest of you have gone on to insult the religion, attack practices, and bring up negative things to complain about it.
Get your own thread, or don't post at all. You caused the thread-maker to delete their post because you highjacked their question to talk negatively about a religion's practices.
That's why you're reported. This wasn't supposed to be all things you can find wrong with the religion, it was them asking for people they could relate to.
Can a mod just lock this before it devolves further into people hating on a specific religion?
more like jenovas witness amirite gamers
Making memes and sarcastically mocking someone's core beliefs and something that is likely part of their identity, it's not being cool or clever, it's just being toxic. That kind of bullying is no different than the shunning which you disagree with. This isn't the place to try to convert someone to or away from religion, which is kind of ironic when the JW are the ones who understand this. Even if you disagree with their beliefs, there's no reason to disrupt people simply trying to find common players to make friends with. You can simply ignore the thread.
In addendum to some of the points made. People of your faith, or people close to you might disapprove or find your hobbies not to their liking, but that's not shunning. Many of those that share my faith disapproved of my gaming and choices of music, but I was never shunned nor made unwelcome. Although I am not JW, and just a mainstream practicing christian. However, I feel like people take any challenge to their interest as a far deeper attack than what it is or meant to be.
I think a lot of things vary from organization to organization even if they push the same religion. Some are more lax in their rules (if they really have any at all), while others are a lot more...intense, bordering on cult-like behavior. I can speak from experience there, or from the experiences of people I personally know.
Honestly I don't think anyone deserves to have a genuine thread derailed because the internet doesn't know how to behave. The OP just wanted to find similar minded people to play with. Views on religion aside, the mature thing to do is just leave it be if it's nothing to do with us.
That said, Nekaru is certainly pouring fuel on the fire.
Oh I agree, it shouldn't have been derailed at all. The premise seemed harmless enough, as well as a meme that really wasn't offensive at all. I just wasn't surprised that it took the turn it did, because that's usually how any talk about religion ends on the internet. lol I'm not defending it, but I've been around the block enough times to know the way of it.
*Me coming into this thread and seeing all of the deleted posts*
I feel like something horrible happened here...
Yikers. I ain't reading this.
oh wow... i knew the english forum is a pool of shit.... but making fun about someons (who isnt even offensive) believes is kinda a new low
I'm not religious myself but I'm mature enough to realise that just because someone is religious, that does not mean that they're a zealot or worthy of ridicule.
I think it's pretty abhorrent for someone's request to find likeminded individuals end up derailed by discriminatory comments.
The game attracts players from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds. As such, I think that a degree of 'live and let live' would be prudent.
OP is better off asking ingame in one of the main city hubs. Forum is at best a vocal minority of the 23 million or so concurrent players.
I kinda knew at some point there was going to be a large disconnect when I saw the topic title.
It would be nice if everyone could have a open mind and accept others for their beliefs and not adopt a puritanical holier then thou mindset.
Religion in it's purest form is guidelines to live a better life and to to seek the betterment of all. And should not devolve into tribal squabbles of my way is better then your way.
Let's not be like Thordan VIIth.
Not one but would never mind running content or chatting with you.
My family discovered witnesses when I was around 5 years old so I was more or less raised as one.
Nekaru your congregation just have some seriously strict elders.. I was roommates with a ministerial servant who is now an elder and we used to play FF-X together a lot, taking turns on bosses and the like. Not every elder or MS is going to have that strict mentality. Some of the ones I've met are so strict that even watching Star wars will get you a shepherding call while others will invite you along to watch something like "Hellboy"(actually happened here lol).. Like you said it's a conscience matter between you and God. The elders will guide as best they can though.
If you're on Crystal DC, feel free to say hello. Or DM for discord details an we can chat until cross DC groups are implemented and we can run trials or something
Huh? What is this?
