Can you get in trouble using mythod to bypass the auto log out. Keep seeing ones afk in the same spot for days and not moving.
No. Just go to HUD editor, game can't tell if you're actually spending all night being OCD on your HUD or actually just AFKd.
Depending on your server I might see it as inconsiderate to bypass the timer, but I don’t know about it being actionable yet.
just report it and move along. no need to lose sleep over it.
if its "illegal" something will happen, and eventually when even that option gets removed, you'll know who to blame when people complain about it being taken out in the future....
with the KNOWN congestion issue its massively inconsiderate
Kids these days suggesting report to everything or is it just a crybaby community?
I forget what Server it was but there was a player that was AFK next to one of the huts in Costa del Sol on it and every time I visited there they were standing in exactly the same spot unmoving.
I took a break from the game for a few months because of a content drought and when I came back they were still there.
It honestly creeped me out.
If you see people standing at a summoning bell or idle while crafting that's exactly what they are doing. Hopefully SE will fix it where it closes you out of all opened windows inside the game after a certain period of time, before the EW launches.
Yes. Constantly. Bypassing the auto log out is hilariously easy and SE does basically nothing to stop it.
People were doing this during the height of Rahuban EX. SE's solution was to literally turn the whole game off for five minutes a day. Reporting it will do absolutely nothing.
The only times I avoided the auto log out is when trying to get some of the rare fish (Lancet, Rainbow).
I think those are legitimate reasons to dodge the system.
But since they are changing it in 6.0, so that you can log out and keep the fishing chain going, I wouldn't be surprised if they start punishing people who try to escape the auto log out.
Simply panning your camera counts as not afk, so you have no idea if they are using these bypass methods. Considering that some of the game's content is on a strict timer which you need to follow in order to participate (hunts, fishing, gathering, open tournaments, ocean fishing, GATEs), there are legitimate reasons why someone might not want to log out in between sessions and risk getting a queue time.
Why report it? How would you even prove someone's doing it to deliberately avoid the auto kick? I mean I'm absolutely certain some are, but I've also gone afk while talking to my retainers and gotten distracted only come back hours later just plain having forgotten I was still logged in : p
It is weird that it prevents the auto kick, but honestly there's so much weird about how this game works sometimes that it's not even that surprising. I'd be less than surprised to find out this is a "can't fix it without breaking something else" situation tbh.
Goodness gracious. We playing detective and telling on people for afking now. 12/3 needs to get here quick so y'all will have something to do.
As long as they aren't using third party tools, I doubt SE will do anything to individual accounts.
I can see them implementing daily server restarts in Endwalker to give players stuck in long queues a chance to play regardless of the number who are just AFK.
They won't have something to do if they're stuck in hours long queues because other players are using the exploits to stay logged in while AFK. World capacity isn't really an issue right now (those <5 min log in queues aren't due to world capacity) but it will be when everyone wants to play on December 3rd.
For whatever reason i cannot explain, some people just like to use their sub to sit afk in one spot forever. And some of those selfsame people got very mad when the AFK time out was first announced because it disrupted their RP.
Some people seemed to imply that they didn't like the idea of logging their characters out because it was hurting them in some way, and i have never seen a case of people needing to go outside and touch grass more in my life.
I avoid AFK because if I'm say going to the bathroom and think it will be fast but it turns out not to be fast, I don't want to sit on the toilet hearing 'SUDDENLY LOUD SHADOWBRINGER TRAILER ON REPEAT' over and over throughout the house.
I've also fell asleep at my computer intent on pulling an allnighter but failed, only to wake up to "HOOOOOOOOOOOOME" which was probably playing on repeat all night.
In so far as I know, you can't get in trouble for bypassing the logout timer. That said if a lot of people do this after Endwalker's launch they will probably institute a server wide log out every 24 hours like the did after Shadowbringers launch.
Be carefully thet could just start rolling logout.
I do think they should probably do something to address this when Endwalker releases otherwise it's not really fulfilling its intended purpose of reducing player traffic.
The silly thing is the game can tell whether or not you're actually pushing buttons vs. just keeping yourself in a state where you can't be logged out as people using the HUD layout or a NPC conversation to avoid being kicked will still get marked with the AFK chair if they haven't disabled it.
It's odd to me that people would want to stay logged in all night or for days. I mean, isn't that also bad for your computer?
All SE is trying to do is get rid of the idlers, to free up the log in queues a bit, so those that do wish to play can log in. This is not a bad thing and I hope they fix it where it logs out players sitting with an open window(s) to avoid being logged out. We don't need players just taking up space in game doing nothing and making log in numbers huge. If you can't do your life's business in 10 minutes, than you don't need to be logged in, especially when EW launches.
You guys also forget Yoshida's vision (which is expressed with housing for one.)
He wants an active, immersive, realistic world.
While AFKers being removed for queue is a thing now and possibly in expansion where its' required.
The reason it's not shamed on ourtside of congestion (aka everyone in this topic saying 'why would they do that' 'spooky'). Is because AFK people make it more realistic and immersive. What city doesn't have the local bum, street performers, loiterers, and crowds hanging out? Unless Limsa is a city that closes its doors at night, then there's probably the latenight crowds as well.
It makes the world more lively.
I've done that as well and nearly fell out of my computer chair when I idled out because I had headphones on
Why no, I've never tabbed out to read a webtoon while Quick Synthing and realized three hours later I was still logged in, nope, not me.
100% disagree. If I went to my local shopping district and dozens of people were just standing around staring blankly and not moving, I wouldn't think "wow what a lively environment!" I'd think there's something wrong with them, and maybe seek out help. People standing AFK doesn't add to the world other than to just make it harder for others to get on to actually play the game.
Additionally.... one has to wonder about your own health if you go away to use the restroom, and hear the login screen pop on before you complete your business as it's a 30 minute timer before it boots you out. Or your need to stay logged in when you go to sleep.
That aside, yes, this is punishable if they can prove it, though someone has to also notify the GMs of the potential problem.
What sucks is the people who use the hud in instances to not get booted. In open world you may or may not be making someone wait in que. In an instance you are maliciously hurting others game experience. At least eventually/hopefully you can boot them.
If the world is not congested then I don't mind AFKers, I mean its their choice and electricity anyway, but if we are currently experiencing congestions/high queue times, etc. then I very much mind, as they are potentially keeping people who actually want to play the game from logging in or experiencing really high queue times.
Firstly, you don't seem to understand the definition of malicious.
But for instances this doesn't work anyway. The autokick in those doesn't give you a confirmation prompt of "push this button to confirm you're still here", it just kicks you. And being vote kicked doesn't care what you're doing or if you're even online - assuming the vote passes, it always goes through.
"intending to do harm" Planning to afk for something you que for is intending to do harm.
The autokick won't kick you if you are open in a certain menu. I literally tried this with friends. We sat on discord and waited to be booted and game couldn't. You never wonder how people who never move in 24 mans aren't afked out? Now if reporting wasn't such a pain. This is clearly an abuse of of a design flaw in game.
The vote kick is more A) you have to wait B) you can't have loot. I have only seen this type of behaviour in two types of content 24 mans and pvp.
In instances, it's people moving a small amount to reset it. It doesn't take much. That said I mostly see it abused in MSQ roulette since it's difficult to initiate a kick with so many back to back cutscenes leading into fights. 24 mans people usually get kicked if they truly AFK (not for like 2 minutes between fights; long enough for everyone to see they're not there), though yes, it is a bummer when the loot timer gets in the way.
