Two weeks isn't going to fix the server problems. They should have delayed to 2022

Here's the deal, if they are still concerned about server congestion AND Yoshi P is still tweaking story content only 2 weeks prior to the original release date, another two weeks isn't going to do anything significant.

If you ask me, it seems they are behind schedule, the expansion is nowhere near ready and I honestly have ZERO trust they won't delay it again in another two weeks. While I am irritated I have now taken a two-week vacation for nothing and can't change it, I am nervous to even ask for December 3rd off because I think the likelihood of another delay is so high.

It seems to me, they should have stepped back, relieved the crunch they are going through and delayed to February 2022 with the launch of the Oceania data center. Because I still believe this EW launch is going to be an absolute disaster with the current state of server congestion.

Just my thoughts because something seriously seems off with Endwalker and it seems some major scrambling is happening behind the scenes to hit this Holiday date, which I think releasing the expansion during the holidays as well is a horrible timing move too. You can see how tired the dev team is and Yoshi P looks like he just wants to disappear in a hole. Hopefully they can meet December 3 and 7th with no issues but I am not holding my breath.

I'd rather not see another delay, personally, though I do have some concerns in regards to server stability.

As an aside, two specific factors stood out to me:

- Back in the early days of ARR, when the stakes were higher and the development team lacked the rapport that they have at present we would get little gifts in the mail whenever something went awry. I remember getting dye sent to me as an apology for a bug with retainer ventures. Now, even when there's a major issue or delay we don't receive anything. I'm not saying we necessarily have to, but it's pretty standard elsewhere for businesses to throw a freebie at their customers to lessen the impact of their mistakes and broken promises. Well, at least here in the UK. It may very well be different elsewhere, I suppose! Though then we circle back to the simple fact that such a stance was the norm during ARR and then changed for some reason.

- The Gold Saucer is set to get new content in Endwalker but we've...heard absolutely nothing about it. That strikes me as odd. Not even a teaser?

I don't really need a gift but I would love for them to remove the Tome Restrictions early so I can finish getting my gear completed quicker.

You make assumption this is related to server congestion. It is not. Game is done and Yoshi P does not really need 2 weeks, he said he just feel safer with 2 weeks for additional QA. I suggest you to watch his live letter, instead of making assumptions.

We don't know what exacly in their QA workload that they are behind on. There be stuff that could been hotfixed a week later, it could be they just having gone over their checklist.

My understanding however is it not justified to have a 2 months+ delay. If Yoshida deemed things was in such a poor state I'm sure we'd got that info the other day along with the annoucement.

Surely it is going to make two weeks of difference, whatever that is worth.

They are always tweaking an expansion up until the last moment. It's passion because you can always make little touches to make it better, like adding some chocolate on top.

They are still concerned about server congestion because there is nothing they can do about it. With covid and the semiconductor shortage, the servers can't be upgraded so they are going to have to hope it goes well.

I am sure they have tested previous builds a lot, but they don't want a lack of QA of the final build to make the expected congestion worse and we were told 2 weeks is enough for that.

Did you download the benchmark? Did you see the media tour where people tested a build from months ago with 3 new areas, fought fates and enemies and did the first dungeon? Did you see the launch trailer? It's obviously nearly ready.

My guess is they could have gotten it out on time but didn't want to have to overstress the employees doing the work. Two weeks let's them properly test stuff without forcing them to work 16 hours a day to make it happen

It's almost like different people have different opinions or something.

They could take another year hell take ten years. It's an MMORPG, you're going to have server problems on launch there's no getting around that.

And as I've said to multiple threads, it's two weeks. It's not going to kill you.

I am sure the this "fix" is not a technical fix but a social one. Imagine how many people took vacations for the Endwalker release? But if you delay the release ... then the people took the vacations for nothing. And if Endwalker lands on the servers then the vacations are usually over and this will mitigate the pressure on the servers because when the people are at work then they cannot play the game.

They know it's not going to fix the server problems. People are misunderstanding what was said.

The two weeks to make certain that QA has been thorough and we get a solid "stable" experience in game (once we get in past the server queues).

That's one thing nice about SE - they handle their own QA and take responsibility when there's a problem. Compare that to Blizzard where they leave QA to unpaid volunteer beta testers on the PTR, ignore the beta testers when they report "this is a problem, things aren't ready" then blame any launch problems on the beta testers for not providing feedback the beta testers had actually given them but that they chose to ignore and deleted from their beta forums.

I suspect that most of the QA time involves things like:

The spelling of <insert new NPC name here> is consistent in all quests, across all languages
The VA work in <language> actually matches the text that's been reworked
The music created for the New Cutscene actually plays correctly
The special effects of <new personal duty> are consistent

That is not a comprehensive list, but with all the last minute changes implied during the video announcing the delay, I'd certainly want to be sure that some Major Plot Point didn't get forgotten. Loose ends are impossible to retcon out of existence during the Finale of an 8 year long storyline.

In the English idiom, this is "Make sure every jot and tittle .. is perfect".

There is no mention of Server Problems in the explanations provided to us.
