A Random Thought: Esuna

So I had a few random ideas regarding Esuna… What if we removed it and added status recovery to Cure/Physick/Benefic/Diagnosis?

One of the issues we run into is our basic heals becoming completely invalid, and debug cleansing is certainly a very niche form of utility as-is, but it does give those spells a distinct purpose at all stages of the game. We could even add a bit of flair to it as well:

Cure - heals one ally and removes all cleansable debuffs
Physick - heals one ally and removes one cleansable debuff from them and all allies nearby them
Benefic - heals one ally, removes one cleansable debuff from them, and prevents them from being debuffed for 15 seconds
Diagnosis - heals one ally and removes one cleansable debuff. / DPS actions also remove one cleansable debuff from your Kardion ally.

Again it’s not like debuffs are really a thing we see these days, but why not merge two almost-useless-but-arguably-necessary actions?

I like this basic idea. I think the bonus cleanses sound OP though, except for AST's Paean effect. If you know failing to dodge an attack grants several cleansable effects (a la Bad Breath) you might just bring a WHM and have the tank eat the attack. Or if everyone would get paralyzed (unhandled lightning spires), just bring a SCH and ignore the mechanic. Sage is already going to be spending a lot of time attacking, and constant cleanses will trivialize basically any cleansable tank debuff mechanic.

Probably okay-powered:

• Cure: remove two debuffs from target.
• Physick: remove one debuff from target and one debuff from debuffed member closest to faerie.
• Diagnosis: removes one debuff from target and one debuff from Kardion.

This saves each healer at most one single target cleanse cast under their bonus cleanse conditions. AST's cleanse would still be comparatively weak compared to those three, so maybe something like this would bring them in line with the rest, while also holding on to the time/prophecy themes:

Benefic:
If the target is debuffed, cleanse a debuff and erect a barrier that prevents the next debuff, duration 15s.
If the target is not debuffed, erect a barrier that prevents the next debuff, duration 15s. If this barrier successfully prevents a debuff, erect another debuff-preventing barrier with a duration of 30s.

That way, 1) their version still only saves them at most one single target cleanse, and 2) it rewards them for anticipating a debuff by granting a longer window on the second cleanse.

Honestly, simply merging Esuna into Cure 1/Physick/Benefic 1 would be enough.

I think this is a pretty good suggestion. You gave some reason to press that minor heal button.

Agreed i want rid of esuna *cough* leeches and to put it into physick makes me happy :D.

although i would like whm to have his classic spells ,since status effects is rarely cleansable and esuna is more for use in emergency only / rare mechanics that you need to use like e8s.

i think its a good idea really to do something like that and remove unnecessary button bloat.

may i offer an option as well:

cure I - remove up to 2 debuffs and remove 1 debuff from the caster.
benefic - remove a debuff, if you have synestry on someone it will also cleanse him
Diagnosis: removes one debuff from target and one debuff from Kardion.
physics - remove one debuff from target and fairy will cast esuna on the nearest party member to her(priority to a party member with a debuff).

If it has to stay a GCD that'd be nice but personally I'd want Esuna to become an oGCD lol. I miss Fey Caress Q.Q

It kind of sucks when you think about it because Esuna used to be actually useful in content in the early days. You were able to remove pretty much any debuff. Now you're surprised when it works on anything.

So yeah, i agree that it would be logical to merge it with the healing skills.

There are very few nowadays, yeah. I can only think of three mechanics in ShB that actually require a cleanse, those being the Freezing debuff in E8S, Throttle in TEA, and Doom in Delubrum Reginae. May as well roll them into the basic Cure/Physick/Benefic, and bonus points if they do a little bit more than a heal and a cleanse. More utility is nice, although it's up to the Raid Team to actually make said utility necessary.
