Too early to tell in my opinion.
In my opinion we are giving way too much credit to the field notes.
I don't like that they did it, but I would be veeeery surprised if we don't get an echo flashback/solo instance to show those events later and get a direct follow-up to this.
But we probably won't know until we learn more about their plans for Ivalice, or even for Mikoto, in 6.X/7.X.
No idea. I personally think it was kind of a bad one but that could just be my taste : p I stopped being invested after like the third time my character had to drink the Big Idiot juice to make the plot progress
The story was not as well received in other parts of the world and they explained that with so much going on in the real world that they were all tired of telling war stories for the time being. If the story is to continue, it would take a different and less bleak theme. It's not that the relationship between Matsuno and the FFXIV team broke down, it's that they feel it's best to try to do something different.
IMO, yes. It started out very good, but got gradually less interesting. Having to extend the payoff to coincide with patch content really screws with a story.
Yoshida and Matsuno also had a conversation recently where it was basically said that Matsuno added Lyon to the story just because he wants Beastmaster in the game.
I would not be surprised to see Matsuno writing the Beastmaster questline, involving Lyon, when it eventually comes out.
But I think the team doesn't want to continue producing large scale content using the Ivalice plotline.
Bozja, more like a roegadyn bullying au ra
Although Lyon is my favourite guy :)
I wasn't a real fan of Bozja story or otherwise. I got to like rank 20 but then I just couldn't do it anymore and all my jobs I capped in Trusts. ><
I found the story to be pretty good actually and certainly miles above the one in Eureka. The issue with getting all the notes for filling in the back story is an issue though and pretty hard to do. Complete story for Eureka involved clearing BA as well so was hard to see it all if you didn't do that.
I just don’t understand how princess Ashe & Rasler were married in XII but in the field notes they’re brother and sister.. did SE intend to make it a royal incest thing?
Other than that, I liked the Bozja storyline and I adore Castrum & Dal :) I find them so entertaining
Failed, dead, and buried.

It's really a shame since I actually got interested in it after the Bozja stuff was done.
I went back to WoW because Bozja. I could never get into groups for the big bosses, and the minor ones just took far too long to kill. I don't recall what it's story was.
That was revealed in the 24-man raid. A lot changed from Tactics and 12 including the order of events between the two games and also making Basch Noah's father instead of his brother. This is based on those games like the Crystal Tower also used characters from FFIII, but retold their stories in a different way and made them from the Allagan Empire.
WTF does "failed storyline" mean?
I can't begin to address your question until I understand what you're asking.
Can you elaborate please?
It's not the ending most people would have expected, but it shows the empire is just as evil as ever, even with the changes at the top.
Lyon leaves, and those in charge point the blame and kill everybody on hand to teach a lesson.
Bozja in it's entirety was a let down.
The story started good but it got progressively worse and then just ended and left too much to the notes. It feels like they started strong and then had no idea where to go with the story or didn't have the time to finish it properly so they just threw something together.
Let's also not forget that they made all these claims about the content itself, but it turned out to be just the standard run of the mill fate farm with a couple dungeons thrown in. Ppl complained about being able to get the drops outside in hw zone fates, but it really wasn't any different than what you were doing in Bozja, just with a more reliable drop rate.
Can really just add it to the list of things in this game that missed the mark.
We should be able to tell in 6.0, if the events of Bozja get referenced in the MSQ.
I imagine Bozja is the storyline most skipped over by the playerbase [a significant portion refusing to do Bozja at all, and the *vast* majority refusing to collect the full set of field notes] - so if there's not an in-game TL;DR released, I wouldn't expect anything more to come of it ever.
It is very hard to build on a side story in a meaningful way, exactly because it is optional.
If they want to do something significant with it in the plot that affects other branches of the story, they have to make it a prerequisite, and that seems unlikely given the time investment expected of it.
So long as it's non-mandatory, there won't be anything beyond some variable dialogue (where those who have done it will get a different comment on the current state of affairs) or something that makes sense whether you've done the story or not. It won't be a measure of how successful the content is, just their standard approach to side stories.
If they want to continue content like Eureka and Bozja, then they really got to take a note from just how extensive and "natural" fates/events in GW2 works. The zones just felt bland, running from circle to circle dodging high tier mobs that will ruin your day while waiting for the boss to spawn. In GW2 there are multiple zones that are one giant fate train of fate trains, with each step having a notably different objective.
For me it was the whole middle section and the fact, as somebody's already said, your WoL drinks the big idiot juice and it just didn't feel right and I felt the mix of the two killed the credibility of the plot line.
I preferred it when I thought Misija's whole motive was classism and how she benefitted from the Garleans' meritocracy as being a reason for why she turned against the Bozjan resistance and for me this all felt coherent and plausible. Which is the direction we see when we find out she's a traitor. Especially as the IVth Legion here didn't show the same xenophobia we're used to from some other legions and said meritocracy appeared present. So I think it makes sense that Misija would think a IVth Legion rule is better than a Bozjan one.
But it just got weird and messy when they tried to work Gunnhilde into her motive to make it so she'd be an incarnation of her. It threw me off and couldn't bring me back on board, I mean, I can think of ways to have done it better. But her character ended up falling flat and didn't feel consistent.
I felt like given her motive and that Mikoto treated her like a friend, was nice to her and was never a part of the classism she faced that she would not mistreat Mikoto and I felt if they took the "I'm doing this because I have to" angle, this would have felt more credible, but it felt more like, "now that I've been revealed as a villain, time to act like a villain and do what a villain does".
Then the progression of this plot just relies on the WoL being a moron who doesn't do anything.
Then when we get to Zadnor, I think it picks up again and I think the plot starts working better and I think it ends well, whilst I groaned at Misija saving the day, but that middle section just ruined it. You see some of Misija's characterisation back when she turns into a good guy again, but it was too late, I decided I was going to take the option to kill her already.
But it does feel like enough loose ends are left that we're probably going to see a continuation. Dalmasca is still populated by the IVth Legion, there's pressure on the borders, we obviously have Nagxia from the opposite side and we don't get a lot of detail on their end, but I dig that we got 2 Nagxian heroes in Zadnor (and it's nice we get more lore on Nagxia out of this)
Although I don't like the plot itself, there's a lot surrounding it that I do like.
Pesonally hating Eureka and Borjza with a true passion, I will be extremely happy if they dont pull that crap for the third time and make something else instead but we know that SE doesnt shine content wise outside narrative (and sometimes they can even screw that) and they are quite predictable so im quite expecting for SE to pull out that boring slog of grind once again in EW with a different name and a new coat of paint
Regarding Misjia they make the common mistake of having her go too 'evil' during the 'evil' part of the arc to the point any sort of attempt to redeem them is laughable.
I don't care what Yotsuyu's sad backstory is or about her innocence via amnesia arc when she's introduced forcing peasants to murder eachother to get her jollies off.
I don't care that Mis comes around at the end after gleefully enslaving the Blades as tempered thralls and no qualms with mistreating Mikoto etc.
There are all too many story arcs where a character goes evil, does unforgivable things, and then they get redeemed at the end and like, one act of self sacrifice or heroism is supposed to redeem all that? No. Dying is easy. Living and working to make up for your mistakes is hard. And some things are not easily forgiven or swept under the rug by a sob story. If you want to redeem a character, or make them more sympathetic after doing evil, BE CAREFUL WITH WHAT EVIL DEEDS YOU HAVE THE COMMIT.
The abrupt ending aside, I thought that the story was overall decent. I wanted a war story and it overall hit the notes, though I think that the Blades characters could have been better presented so that the events at the end of Castrum would have hit harder. It's also rather disappointing that you don't get to stop by any Bozjan settlements and talk to NPC townfolk and such. Even the Werlyt storyline at least had Terncliff. My biggest gripe was that I couldn't shank Misija myself at the end.
I personally loved nearly everything of it - from the storyline to the amount of Ivalice references, from the combat system allowing you to do a hundred and one different styles and offroles (regardless of dps efficiency, mind you, I enjoyed DPS tanking or Tank healing) to some of the mechanical nuances in some fights.
To say the story is "failed" is a bit subjective, it takes roots from Stormblood story naturally with the garlean war theme and I can see why some arent into it, but not every story needs to have a billion plottwists and revelations to be good like how Shadowbringers did and Endwalker will.
That being said, I really want to know what kind of content you guys expect in place of Bozja. Can you guys give concrete examples of what you want and if its from another game, do you mind elaborating it and explain how it could be done in FFxiv?
With Yotsuyu, I agree with everything you've said, but I like how they ended it for her at least (and I enjoy her fight), because I think there was a bit of a divide, those who of us who were like "kill her, we don't empathise with her character, villain must die" and those who were in love with Yotsuyu, in the end she got closure, which is an end I figure people who liked her would be satisfied with and we got to kill her off. And I guess you have that choice with Misija too.
However, there is a third character here worth mentioning, which is Fordola. She's not been fulling explored yet, but out of the three I feel like so far she could have the most potential to be interesting. But like much of Ala Mhigo she hasn't got much love/attention, but the current MSQ can change that. Fordola's motive made sense and her characterisation matches it and she reacts naturally to how things happen and her character remains consistent with her motive and she didn't devolve into "evil because evil" but does bad things because those bad things progress her goals and the bigger picture she's and that's equality with the Garleans - she buys into the meritocracy kinda like Misija does. But her tone does change once The Ala Mhigan Resistance and Eorzean Alliance show substance and that their way has merit, and her skepticism remains meaning she still wants them to prove themselves. But she steps down from being an adversary to try and better see things from another perspective, so a redemption arc I think would end up working better for Fordola. So I am interested to see what they do with that.
I also liked Gaius' redemption arc, though I say it in the past tense, but I feel like he's not reached the end of it, but gotten over the first few hurdles. Because hey, war crimes are big debt to pay. I didn't end up feeling much in the way of sympathy for him - maybe some because I think it's human to, however, he's been responsible for his share of suffering. I had more sympathy for his kids, Allie especially. Although I thought they were being dumb at the beginning, once we learned more about what they were doing & why it made more sense. But what I did gain from Gaius was perspective and a growing respect for his character, who I want to see learn from his wrongs and do greater things, like help rebuild what's left of Werlyt and help aid the people he once wronged.
(spoiler alert, if people haven't said so already?)
I liked Yotsuyu, wish she lived. However I forgot the bad stuff she did, I quit during Stormblood and came back recently. I only remember the castle fall and onward.
Exactly, FF14 is slowly becoming WoW aka "Why innovate? players love our game!!Just give them more of the same!!" and players will eventually become bored of repeating the same content over and over with a different layer of paint . On Heavensward and even Stormblood each expansion was more or less a discovery, on ShB you could accurately predict the content pattern before it was released and EW is not gonna be the exception.
Im starting to get annoyed to feel myself held hostage of FF14 because I dont want to lose my hard earned house and theres about over 2 months left before next content patch arrives, Even if on every content patch theres "a lot" of things to do, many are either "more of the same" or pure grind slogs that im not interested, and having autopilot dungeons do not help the feeling of "sigh, not this again..."
I don't see it as a failed storyline. We were just missing a zone because COVID, which probably would have dealt around the Blades before Delebrum. Overall I don't think feel that it failed considering Bozja is liberated, just that it ended with a giant "To Be Continued..." sign on it for possible future storylines that reference with what happened there (like Beastmaster Limited Job if they add it).
It seems people missed the latest interview with Yoshi-P and Matsuno.
The ending and field notes was done on purpose.
Honestly I'd have liked Yotsuyu better if she'd just died at Doma Castle and not come back for the SB patches.
For Fordola, I liked how they handled 4.1. She was explicitly NOT easily forgiven for all the bad things she did, and went back to jail after helping save the day. One good deed does not undo years of cruelty. And the whole alternative sentence of helping to kill primals fits the story really well, people with the echo and combat abilities to face primals are vary rare so it makes sense to keep her around and have her keep fighting for the 'good guys.' A long term redemption has a huge advantage in being convincing and making me care so we'll have to see where she goes in the future. Whatever her motives s
Gaius...I have to be honest the whole thing with his kids felt incredibly forced. Like they were really reaching to find a way to make him more sympathetic so they decided 'so he has this group of au ra orphans....that have never been spoken of or hinted at before and now we're going to kill them one by one isn't that so sad for him?' Gaius realizing he and the Empire had been maniuplated and joining the fight against the Ascians felt like it made sense. I liked where things were going in that direction as 'shadowhunter' or whatever. But I'm not honestly a big fan of him suddenly having all these adopted kids and becoming governer of a former imperial province now freed that I think he conquered in the first place? The whole Sorrow of Werhlyt story felt like a bizaare pivot for his arc to me.
Couldn't bring myself to care about about the Bozja storyline, one of the rare instances I just skipped all the cutscenes and dialogue. Just could not care. Doesn't help I find Hrothgar pretty ugly and they are prominently displayed in all the cutscenes. Not visually appealing at all.
I enjoyed it, at least thousand better than Eureka's whatever story.
Bozja still could have worked more with the side characters, I definitely enjoyed having a bit of lore related to other jobs' quest characters/more lore.
Meryall and Lovro were interesting as the former became the sole survivor of Gunnhildr's Blades (as you can talk to her after finishing the Bozja whole thing and mentions that you found a cure for temper since you did 5.4) and the latter being alive but tempered (who is under custody after being captured through the Zadnor's 3rd area Fate). He was also Lambard's pupil who we defeat him in the 50-60 RDM quest
Pagaga is also interesting because it tells us more about Beast Masters of Ala Mhigo and they are specialised with griffins.
And many more characters tend to feed us with bits of lore of various locations but I felt they could have add or worked more with those.
Still I feel the tastes are so subjective, I felt engrossed with Bozja. Won't deny the ending felt a lot to be desired and it is a pity.
Regardless of whether it was the original plan or not, it FEELS like a third zone was missing to wrap up this story arc.
The Diabolos engine thing at the end also felt kind of random to have as the final challenge of the arc, and maybe storyline as a whole if we don't end up picking up this plot thread again in a future expansion. Like it was just there to have something go berserk at the end for Mis to heroically dye stopping.
I preferred Eureka to Bozja. Didn't realize there was a storyline other than the Save the Queen one. Only did both for the Triad cards.
I just want to go back to getting content that will appear in the duty finder and not tucked away in special instances.
More dungeons to fill out the Expert roulette.
Castrum/Delubrum/Dalriada could have been another alliance raid series. We should see more of raids giving each party a different thing to do.
CEs could appear on the world map for the high-level boss FATEs. Or make them a roulette like a ramped-up revival of guildhest content.
The gameplay system were interesting, but the story was got garbage due to the Roe character. So much so it made me hate the race.
