It isnt with a diff PC, its if you login from a different IP Address and its a nice security feature.
its a wonderful feature and easy to fix. You can either reset your password each time or get a key faub and use that every time you log in. This is keeping you from getting your account hacked.
It's really annoying when you live in a place where you get a new ip every time you reset your modem, coupled with the fact that your ISP allows your internet to go down for brief (1 minute) intervals all throughout the day.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to line their pockets with a little more money if it meant I didn't have to deal with this.
I have a dynamic IP and it never locks me, as my dynamic range doesn't stray to the point it would look like a different location. Get a token your problem is solved. In all actuality a lot of companies employ this technique these days even in non-media related fields, you just don't get automatically locked out it usually takes a bit for the system to do it and by then your new IP would be registered as "you" and the system will ignore it.
I also has a dynamic IP and never got this happen
They need to give players a way to opt out of this security measure.
get a token
Did the same to me when I brought my laptop to a convention, The easy solution is to set up a security token, then the lockout feature is disabled as long as you enter the security code.
Whoa whoa... hell...
So your telling me the game does detect if you log in from a different IP...
So allow me to run this toward you... instead of forcing me to use my security token, Draining it's batteries a little after every use, every damn time. Instead, when ever I log into a different IP address, it request the security code.
Also cutting down the price from 9.99 to something reasonable like 3.99. Hell, if the reason why it ain't free is cause they need money, gimme the app and chock it full of ads that I only have to look at say I switch computers every so often.
Anyone complaining about the extra security has never had to deal with SE's customer service directly.
Taking 2mins to reset a psw when you change IPs is nothing compared to having to call their customer service, get stuck on hold for 20mins only to be told there is nothing to do or just get hung up on. Then you have to repeat 4 more time to get someone who will listen, who will then unlock you account.
Then you get in game find out all your stuff is stolen, call them back (Repeat the above btw) and then be put on a 2 month long investigation which you get 1/10th of your lost stuff back at the end.
Yea, the 2mins are more then worth it in the long run.
For ppl worried about the token dieing i have used my token 2+ times every day since i got it back in 2009 and its still going. As for ppl scared of loosing it idk what to say.
I hope you get hacked and then eat your words.
Its a good feature, deal with it.
This is not true, unless it is a new addition??! When my friend played I would either take my computer over to his house and use his connect different ip/host/hostmask. sometimes I would straight up log in on his computer because I didnt bring mine. when did they add this because I know this wasnt an issue 1.20
whats the point of having everything server side if you cant do this? Oh to prevent RMT? well thats not an excuse because releasing a POS game at launch ran them off. and botters... see them all the time. so whats the point of having everything server side if you cant log into it at another location/computer?
i play on a laptop sometimes from different places so it's annoying.
Buy a damn token...If you can afford to pay the monthly fee for this game you can afford to skip lunch one day to buy a token. Then you won't have any issue longing on anywhere, I have a token and I have no trouble logging in from multiple ISP's.
Honestly...I don't understand people sometimes
Do you have a token?
your macros and UI setting is not server sideQuote:

It's not to prevent RMT. It's to prevent hacking.Quote:

Guess it's worth pointing out they don't ship the token worldwide, so it's pretty annoying when you have a legitimate reason to play on different IPs, cannot use a token and cannot disable that feature. Trust me, it sucks.
Just buy an authenticator .. :D
Trust me i love the token when i got hacked in FFXI i bought one ASAP. Sign in all my gear was gone and hacker decided it would be fun to drop all of my rare/ex gear -.-.
The security token doesn't stop the lock out as I've gotten locked out with it as well.
I've never entered the password in wrong so no. It's probably suppose to and I just experienced a glitch but I've been locked out of my own PC 5 times using the token everytime.
I had this happen to me once, I hadn't signed in elsewhere or using a different computer. It was months after I started playing and my IP changes every 36 hours, so I don't think it's related to either one or the other.
If it were strictly IP, I would have the problem more frequently, if it was strictly about using the same PC, I would never have it.
Lately, I got a second PC so me and my wife can play together, she uses the old one while I moved to the newer one. We didn't have any problems at first, but then my router renewed its IP lease (like an hour after we started playing together), we both got disconnected at the same time because of that, and when we went to log in again, she had to change her password (not me). Never happened since, and I juggle both PCs on a regular basis now, depending on whether she plays or not (the newer PC isn't as powerful, it's a budget machine we got so we could play together, totally not a powerhouse)
I'd guess that sort of thing will happen a little more often at first, and SE's system probably learns over time that you're behind a dynamic IP, or you occasionally use other PCs, and won't freak out unless something is really weird (like logging on a PC in Russia 5 minutes after logging out in the UK, there's no way in hell you could have gotten there that fast)
Like others have said, if that bothers you, you can get an authenticator, or wait for SE to release one for smartphones like Blizzard did. I got one with the Collector's edition but never bothered to use it.
