Instanced Housing Confirmed for Island Santuaries

Island Sanctuaries in Endwalker WILL HAVE personalized, instanced housing
Confirmed by Meoni via his Endwalker coverage.

You can place buildings where you want on your island and a house is one of them.

27:20 question is asked. Sounds like some of the above statements were not directly covered in the interview in the video.

He talks for almost 10 minutes, but I'm still not entirely sure this is instanced housing... or even what Island Sanctuaries even really are...

He keeps referring to it as "content" so it seems to be a different kind of housing from what we'd normally think of. But he also mentions furniture? But not in a way that indicates it'll just be 1:1 with regular housing, and I'm not sure if we'll even be able to use housing items after he went out of his way to explicitly distance Island Sanctuaries from Animal Crossing. Yet he says we start with a blank canvas and we place buildings and gather materials and roam with minions, so it sounds like it's more of an island builder than anything related to housing.
Especially when he says "things like tending to crops and [raising animals] is more the concept we were going with here."

Honestly, I'm even more confused than I was before lol...

This is wildly incorrect.

He talks about placing down BUILDINGS in an instance. That's pretty much it. However he spends a long segment talking about how island sanctuary is a "rank above" current systems like housing, gardening, and decor. These are not the same levels of content. Island sanctuary is an entirely new experience that expands upon the basis of currently founded systems.

There was also an interview prior where he directly talks about this overlap with housing:
Q: "With Ishgardian housing coming as well as the Island Sanctuary, players are wondering what will the overlap be, if any, between Housing/Estate activities and Island Sanctuary ones?"
A: "I won’t say there is no overlap in the gameplay, but they are fundamentally two separate pieces of content. If anything, we plan to incorporate many things that you can’t do within the housing/estate system into the Island Sanctuary. We’ll have more details down the road, so please stay tuned for further updates on this."

Basically, yes there's going to be overlaps. But no, this is not instanced housing.

You missed some info, Zepla asked Meoni who himself asked questions to Yoshi-P, so to sum it up :

You can place buildings where you want AND place housing furniture too. I’m unsure if it’s outdoor only or both with indoor stuff but I’d suppose it’s the latter one. At any rate, you will be able to place some furniture.

Also your interview is from May 2021, whereas the mediatour is far more recent and reliable in terms of dev decisions.

I timestamped the quote directly here talking about what you can do in island sanctuary. This is the interview I'm referring to that says nothing about furniture placement. What he says you can do is:
- let your minions roam
- place down buildings
- gather materials
- let your friends visit
- visit other friends
- relax

The interview I linked was from May 2021, yes. I linked it because they have been trying to establish this distinction from the two systems since they originally introduced the idea to us. In this current October 2021 interview, he continues this line of thought by establishing that Island Sanctuary is a more broad experience than just housing.

Am I ruling out that they might reveal later down the line that furniture placement will be a thing? No. My point is that island sanctuary is not instanced housing. It's an entirely new, unique system completely separate from the current housing system. There are overlaps, yes. But that does not make them the same bit of content, nor does being able to place furniture make something "instanced housing".

I wonder if it will be similar to how Wildstar's housing was- your own instanced island/ world.
You could put gardens, animals, training areas - or none of that & make it a giant canyon or a frozen field & even a giant forest or deserted island- it was almost limitless what you could do to the islands in wildstar.
But seeing as how limited the current item decoration is in XIV, there is no X,Y,Z axis placement to make it easier for players- maybe if it's as frustrating in the new island instance as it is now with just item placements & decorating, maybe finally something would be done about it. But that's wishful thinking & what it really is remains to be completely seen!

There was definitely a disconnect between the reddit post which I initially quoted and what was covered in the interview which I watched later... was a busy morning. I suppose we are going to have to wait until they are ready for an official reveal with video and all. How long before we get that is anyone's guess.

Being an entirely separate system and content doesn't mean there won't be instanced housing. By saying "If anything, we plan to incorporate many things that you can’t do within the housing/estate system into the Island Sanctuary." it could easily mean that we'll be able to have a private home *in addition* to all the other stuff. What things can they let players do on islands that aren't able to be done with in-city housing wards?

1. Place Buildings
2. Let minions roam
3. Farm/Gather

We all need to not read too much into what Yoshi-P's saying right now. There's got to be a lot about the content that he can't talk about and has to be cagey with the responses he gives right now. Who knows, Island Sanctuaries may still be in the alpha or beta stage and require time to flesh out and/or finalize so he can't give specifics because they haven't been decided on yet.

Let's all relax until firm details are released. There's no need to fight over wording of answers in different interviews. Nobody answers the same question exactly the same way each time.

I hope another one of the buildings we can place is a "gardening plot" or else this is just going to be "apartment but larger" ... not that they've done much with gardening (yes, ONE minion, the melon since heavensward).

Kinda reminds me of the little beast tribe instances we went into inbetween leveling but with some placement ability. Perhaps "island sanctuary" is that type of questline but with more permanent and useful results. We shall see.
