Now even Midlanders get a taste of the Hrothgar struggle.

I love how they added the same face, but with stubble. That's how they had to add it.

Now if we could only get Au Ra horns separate from faces and Hrothgar hair separate from faces..

I will not use this feature on my female Elezen. :D :D :D

I'm glad to see it finally added, though I hope it's a 'quick fix' on the road to a more intricate rework of the character customisation system later on.

middie dude stubble! heck yeah!

one of my alts has basically gotten the "level to 50 and ignore" treatment because of his lack of stubble (it was a... PERVASIVE issue. there was a big part of his character growth that required the stubble and just... never happened.)... now i can finally fantasia some stubble on to him!

Is the character creator's code that bad that they had to pull a Hrothgar to get Derplander's stubble in?

I knew it was all spaghetti coding but to see this as their solution to adding more facial hair options is just...wow. >x>
It probably would of been better to just added it as a Face Paint option.

I was kind of expecting it to be a piece of equipment like a helmet or a necklace

I've been saying for a while that if they implemented it, it would probably have to be a separate face.

All the existing beards are implemented through the "facial features" menu that only ever has a fixed number of options that never get expanded.

I don't think hairstyles or items are capable of giving the individualised moulding to the character's face shape.

oof, I mean that face type was already the most used one but now it's going to be everywhere... not sure how I feel about this not being a facial feature

I can see why Yoshi has been speaking in firmer terms about one in recent times.

Bout time they put some attention towards the male characters. Let’s just hope this also translates over to glamours/outfits as well and we don’t have a shb fiasco.

1- Midlanders have 7 face options? why does everyone else only get 4?! gimme Sea Wolf face 1 please and thank you!

2- That kinda confirms my suspicions that it's more likely Hrothgar will be given more of the same faces with the different hairstyles, than having the hair and face separated. As someone who doesn't even change hairstyle often...I'm not really against it, it's still better than only having 2 hairstyles /shrug

Well, if this is any indication, they would have to make one new face for every single possible combination.

I feel like the best workaround would be if they can add "faces" to the list of things changeable at the aesthetician even if they don't allow all the individual aspects like tweaking eye shape or ears.

Not many people are going to want to change the actual face of their character without editing anything else about them, but it would allow for switching between these paired faces with different attributes.

funny thing is according to one of the interviews I watched, the games engine isn't even holding it back. 1.0 spaghetti is a myth.

so either adding more options to the character creator is very low priority (because of the new races) or its hard to get devs with good knowlege of ARR's engine (because its a SE custom built monstocity) to add new features

1.0 was time and time again confirmed to be a nightmare to work with, though. It's not even the same engine as what they used for ARR.

It doesn't need to be 1.0 spaghetti code to be a problem. 2.0 is its own separate bowl of hastily-assembled spaghetti and they just keep building on it as best they can.

Nobody knows whether it is spaghetti coding or not as long as we do not see the sourcecode of it. :)

I guess, they have huge problems with the data layer and not the game engine itself. It seems that the remove the belt slot to get space for other things. With a good data layer it is not a problem to add more space per player character. But if the inventory space is hardcoded somewhere and increasing this number breaks other things then it might be easier to drop something like the belt slots and reallocate the free space to other item slots.

They haven't added any new face paint options since ARR either, apparently it was too hard or something, can't remember what it was from the excuse roulette.

It's not it's sadly a Japanese thing. We do it this way and that's it. If they can add hair they can add this as well. It's just something they don't want to do but people asking. So they do a half assed job.

They really need to open up the aesthetician to include all options for your character excluding race, sex, and subrace. You should be able to change your eye color, height, skin color, face, etc...

You shouldn't need to fantasia for a new option.

They've been saying they were going to open it up more since heavensward. Still waiting for them to follow through on it.

Not to mention, we as players who pay a subscription already have the right to ask for some quality of life updates that don't require us to spend more money.

One thing I'm not sure of...does the stubble take on the color of your hair or is it locked to dark brown??

I was wondering about that too but the only video I've seen of the stubble is the GamerEscape one and they don't change the color at all. >x>

It's more that their engine limitations are so bad that they had to devise another face to add the stubble - no wonder they're now seriously looking at upgrading the engine. High time for it to be done. And I agree, it'd be nice for other races to get extra faces and for customisation and char models overall to be upgraded.

I mean, people are allowed to call out shitty practices and give criticism lol. We’re all paying customers. People have asked for the stubble for awhile now and the fact they locked it behind a paywall is…sad to say the least, along with hrothgar face and hair still being locked behind a paywall :p just bad implementations everywhere.
