change my mind
They would have to pay me to play it
I'd love a reduced bundle price for them.
Disney+ should be free with a netflix sub.
Change my mind.
I play FFXI only on free weekends. slowly getting the last of my jobs to 99 and finishing the story. But I 100% agree with you.
It's not like you will be playing both games at the same time. As both base subs are the same I say include the second game for $3-5
Also, it gives you another SE game to play while FFXIV is online. Which at launch it of endwalker it's going to be!!
I think they should raises the sub for XI if you play XIV.
Change my mind.
OP they have said they will never bundle 14 and 11 together again.
Their reasoning is that, because 14 is much more popular, it feels like 11 is being bundled with FF14, and not that they're being bundled together.
They said this devalues FF11 and gives the impression that it's unable to stand on its own.
If this doesn't sit well with you, instead of asking us to change your mind, you might wanna strive to change the devs mind.
well the reasoning i had why they should/would do this is to provide a similar experience as retail and classic wow. i'm well aware that 1.0 has its fans and that 1.0 was a very different beast compared to XI, i think it's the best compromise they could give. XI definitely stands on its own, and now almost a full 20 years later, i think it has developed an appeal for those who want a more classic or even retro final fantasy mmo.
The solution is for you to make your own bundle and pay full price for both. There's not much benefit for them to just give it away. People that really like one of them tend to not like the other, so I don't think the added ability to play XI would even be used by very many people. Basically they'd just be flushing some of their revenue down the drain for nothing.
XI is still chugging along just fine, all the while charging its own separate subscription fee. Why would SE give up all of that profit?
Aaaaaand....honestly, I feel like unleashing the pampered masses of XIV into XI for free would be a disservice to XI. XI is a fantastic game...for the right type of player. The sub fee is enough to make people take pause and look into the game a bit more to decide if it's right for them or not (can always try the free trial!). If someone's (food) palette is fairly standard, suddenly tossing vegemite into the mix is going to get a negative reaction from most people. In the same vein, XI would be (unfairly, imo) poo-pooed so fast just because it is so completely different from any modern MMO. Doesn't mean it's bad, but it is an acquired taste.
Having an option for a better price if you have an active sub on both games would make sense though, even if it's just 1 or 2 bucks.
Should be some kind of Square Enix Pass but with a better name that gives you access to XI, XIV and other premium bonuses. XI badly needs a remake with a modern user interface, but they cancelled the remake they had going on :/
I wanted to try XI. Then I downloaded the launcher in parts as if I was downloading a private server in the 2008 era. Afterward, I launched it and got lost. Opened a Youtube guide and still got lost. In the end, I gave up on trying XI before I even play the game...
SE should introduce a modern launcher to XI to make it easier for new players to play it. Then we might discuss how to increase its active playerbase.
Can I have all the FF before XIV for free with my sub? They are older right?
Playinline is a hot mess. It's the first boss encounter of XI, or so the joke goes.
Not sure when you tried the download, but I believe it should be one big file now to at least install everything. You will still need to contend with POL though to get into the game :x
It's a good example though. XI and XIV is two different games.
I play both and would love a discount or something like that but it's not like WoW Retail and Classic situation we're talking about here.
Playing on a private server is much more work to setup tbh. If you had played through the real launcher it's not more difficult than getting everything setup on Mogstation for XIV.
As much i'd love a modernized XI it won't happen to a soon 20 year old MMORPG.
And thank god for that. It was a mobile port of the game.. Mobile..
POL is basically nowadays:
- Hit Play
Back in the day we had to do account management in that mess, that was the true pain.
Except its not a good example. Both are final fantasy in the suggestion. Also both being online mmos owned by square Enix. In the example I responded to, while both are streaming services, they are of separate companies. So it was a stretch. Apples and oranges. While both fruit, vastly different.
Sure you can think that.
It still not going to happen after being seperate subs for a decade. Again to compare it to WoW, classic is a smaller limit game compared to XI that has a handfull of expansions included and years of content.
As much I love a discount or joint sub it will not happen.
I remember my attempt at downloading and playing the game was one year ago during XIV patch 5.3
The files weren't a real issue, to begin with, as I didn't have a problem just dumbing all the five into one big file. The issue was in launching the game as things were vague and had to watch more than one youtube guide, which after seeing how complicated it is i just gave up on trying the game. I Might try it again but not in the foreseeable future.
pain.[/QUOTE]
No interest in FFXI - why another thread about this?
Why should I have to pay (cause the sub would go up no matter that some think) for a game I cannot play as it is not available on my OS?
They are totally different games - some people like to play both but the vast majority play one or the other.
Check your attitude at the door and to not flame people for simply stating the truth - there are other threads on this.
Saying that FFXI should be bundled with FFXIV is same as saying that they should gift FFI along with the purchase of FFXV - it makes little to no sense.
In case with WoW Retail and WoW Classic it's the same game in two different versions.
In case with FFXI and FFXIV it's two completely different games that, despite all the direct and not-so-direct references aren't connected to each other. It's not the same experience as with WoW Classic and it couldn't be.
Plus FFXI is still getting updates, meaning it has its own separate budget. This so-called "bundle" might hurt both games as a result, because instead of living their own lives these two titles will have to separate an already limited budget between each other. And considering that playerbase overlaps at least a little bit - this summarized budget will be even less than what we have now separately unless they will decide to raise sub price.
Something like a small discount for a sub if you play both games does sound like a nice thing to have, but bundle really doesn't sound like a good idea, even if it were meant to happen (which I think they stated they won't do, so we're really just talking hypothetically here).
Loved FFXI and still do, FFXI it is the same company and I feel people seem forget that.
I do feel that FFXI is a little overpriced and I would go back more often if it was a little lower.
Great game though but just old...a bit like me :D
It's only overpriced cause they charge character slots and extra inventory (which pretty much is a must nowadays if you level multiple Lv99s and have multiple gearsets)
I re-subbed last weekend and had to pay €18 for 2 character slots and 2 inventory services.
But at the same time I also pay like €20 for my XIV sub with retainers.
That's an assumption it would go up. I think the people who want a merged sub is price is unchanged, as they usually compare it to wow and classic where sub wasn't changed.
Do I get a sub discount if I don't play XI for not taking up server space? Because nothing I've read about it makes me want to try it.
that's your problem because macos is a joke. if you really hate windows, try a nice linux distro. or heck, vulkan is available on mac too but i'm getting off topic. but anyway just saying nobody cares because you don't is, again, an incredibly boneheaded statement
They had a bundle back in 1.0
Yes and no. They discounted a couple months if you started playing 1.0

It hasn't aged well but I also don't think 11 is for everyone.
I only feel nostalgic and loves the game but I also played it back in 2004 to 2014. Although I hear new players, even XIV players that joins the game and love it but I guess on surface it is a turn off for many.
No. I'll happily take free games, especially ones I never played.
Nope, I'll gladly take that too!
Completely off-topic, but I've always thought the UK's "chalk and cheese" a much better way to express the idea that one is trying to compare two completely different things, as chalk and cheese actually are different things, whereas apples and oranges are both fruit. /shrug
SE: or we could keep charging a sub as we've always done until nobody plays our game any more. We still have FF14.
I mean, I like free stuff just as much as the next person but SE isn't going to change its mind about it just as much as the OP no matter how badly you want it.
I should have clarified - it's the initial POL / account setup can be really confusing. There are still frequent posts in the subreddit with people struggling just to get into the game. Once that's all done though, POL and the login process is easy peasy like ya said.
If there was no way to tell how much revenue ffxi was bringing in on its own, there simply would be no reason for it to continue. It's not like it is cheap to have 16 servers going and employing the handful of devs it has. As it stands there are plenty of ppl at SE who share double duty between the 2 games because ffxi simply isn't popular/profitable enough to have a separate staff. Would I like to see that change? Very much so. FFXI is an amazing game, rich with lore and some top notch story telling. But sadly its severely outdated in many ways and it has no mainstream appeal.
Combining the subs would be the final nail for ffxi.
Yes please. Do it like WoW Retail/Classic where they share a subscription. Or at the very least offer a discounted subscription cost if you sub to both!
