You've seen countless threads on it and I just have to ask, when is this going to get addressed?? I've seen threads as far back as late stormblood about this happening and it's absolutely absurd that this is still a problem. I've tried virtually everything I could find on here, reddit, Nvidia support, PC support sites, etc. and it STILL happens.
With all due respect to the staff, every single thread I've seen responded to in relation to this error does not get fixed and eventually locked. It's exhausting. It'll happen in dungeons, it'll happen while I'm crafting, it'll happen in area transitions, and just today it crashed for simply typing a message into public chat which is a first. Any fix I've tried will work for about 3 days to a week before it starts happening every hour or so all over again. And just to get the possible accusation out of the way because a reddit thread I tried to get help from was accusing me of this too: No, I do not mod my game.
- I've reinstalled the game from scratch.
- I've moved my install folder to a brand new SSD just in case my old one was starting to go bad.
- I've tried cutting off my second monitor.
- I've tried disabling audio enhancements on my audio devices
- I made sure I have no overlays on (I turn them off by default anyways I hate them.)
- I've tried making it the only application I'm running -- and even then that shouldn't matter because with FFXIV, Chrome, and Discord open I'm still only using like 44% of my GPU, 48% of my memory, and 26% of my CPU. This game is not taxing on my computer at all.
- I've tried a clean boot.
- I've tried replacing the DLL files.
- I've tried other versions of DX11.
- I've tried both overclocking AND underclocking.
- I've tried undervolting.
- I've tried reinstalling my entire windows operating system from scratch.
- I've tried messing with settings in game like capping my FPS, running borderless windowed mode, limiting FOV, etc. that i've read on other forums l've found on google. But not a single thing i've tried on countless threads has brought me a resolution.
- Tried turning off quickboot per request from users in this thread -- had results for about 2 days before crashing again.
I've even gone as far as upgrading my PC from the ground up bar my MSI 470X Motherboard. I have a brand new AMD 6800x, a brand new Ryzen 7 2700x, a brand new 800 watt power supply, brand new set of 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a brand new 2TB SSD. I've put so much money into thinking maybe my computer didn't cut it and still I get this error constantly.
The only thing I haven't tried that was suggested on forum boards is switching from the steam version to the windows version, and I don't want to do that because for whatever reason I have to pay separately for that version of the game despite it also being for PC.
Switching to DX9 has seen results (I haven't played on it long enough to get a good idea) but it makes the game look awful and doesn't support features like 4k UI which makes icons not look like blurry garbage and it doesn't support my monitor's refresh rate or resolution. No other game I play has this issue including other MMORPGs. There is absolutely zero reason FFXIV should crash all the time on DX11. This is clearly a GAME problem. Hell some threads like this one people have claimed to have this exact error since 2016 -- that's FIVE YEARS this has been a known problem. (https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes.../blog/3778736/)
Are there any possible things I'm missing out on here? I've explored so many threads on so many different sites I don't know what else I could possibly try at this point. I'm just exhausted and tired of this and it makes me want to stop playing.

Hey, you seem to be in a very similar situation to my own. I've tried almost every solution under the sun, including almost all of those you listed here, and the game still crashes on specific cutscenes, or during dungeons. Theres even zones i cannot enter or im gonna randomly crash at some point.
With the amount of forum posts regarding the crashing issues, I am now convinced the fault does not lie with us or our computers. It really is embarrassing for a game this popular to have such major and relatively widespread crashing issues...
I've enjoyed my time playing, but I see no reason to continue, especially since I literally cannot progress the MSQ due to a 100% crash. -

Try disabling audio enhancements on your default audio device. That helped for me.

here is my info to hopefully help salve the issues many are faced with, i have tried a clean boot, and with the game installed on every drive on my system an SSD that is the C drive, and 2 HDD with fresh installs of the game on each, all drivers reinstalled multiple times up to date and all windows updates that are possible installed, even crashes in DirectX9, even went as far as a fresh install of windows with the only thing installed are updates, drivers, Steam, and ffxiv installed at one point

Are Final Fantasy XIV and Steam installed on the same drive? Could you try installing both Steam and Final Fantasy XIV on the C drive? Sometimes having the game on the main drive can alleviate the crash. Additionally does the game crash if its run on windowed mode or borderless full screen?

have tried to troubleshoot with Steam and FFXIV both installed in the C drive, and on separate drives (example: Steam on C drive and FFXIV on D drive)
as it is stated in the system report I shared, I was in the process of testing with Steam and FFXIV in separate drives, still with constant random crashes
the game crashes while in every mode (full screen, borderless full screen, and windowed)
as of writing this, no less then 15 minutes ago I had a crash to desktop with no error message while teleporting to The Gold Saucer -

Yep, my game is crashing randomly too. Without errors in Windows Event Viewers or with crashing my GPU driver. It's been like this for months and nothing from proposed solutions works.

Recently just did RAM troubleshooting, checked all 4 ram sticks in each slot 1 at a time in each slot, all slot/stick combo still crashed to desktop
with no other program or game crashing, even though was only using a 8gb stick at a time
also checked duel channel with each combination, and still crashed
For me I can't even play the game for longer then an hour, sometimes, no more then ten minutes, I can almost anticipate it to crash,
I stopped queueing for dungeons, parting with friends/playing with friends in general due to this crash issue,
it's to the point I'm about to completely uninstall and cancel my sub because I haven't been able to play for the last year,
Cyberpunk2077 and a heavily modded Skyrim do not crash this often for me, and I can at least play those games and have fun even if it does crash -

Is anyone in here using Fastboot (Fast Startup)? It is the default setting for Win10 and is well known to cause all kinds of untold misery with everything from mouse and trackpad drivers (DIAF Asus drivers) to display drivers and anything in between. I got a tip to disable it from a ROG support forum and it not only fixed my trackpad/keyboard not working after reboot, but my DX11 crashes in XIV as well on that laptop (G752). Yes, you'll boot a few seconds slower but if there's a chance it will fix the crashes then maybe give it a try?
(Edit to add) I was also having controller issues when using Big Picture Mode in Steam for other games (XIV is not the Steam version), killing Fastboot fixed this as well on both my laptop and desktop. I also recommend killing all things Xbox overlay, Game Mode, and Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. None of these features has proven to add anything and are all known in some instances to cause CTD in other games and applications. -

Xbox Overlay I disabled after a clean windows install, so that has always been off,
Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling was never turned on as that needs to be manually turned on

Yes, both of them are installed on a brand new SSD as mentioned in the OP. I have also already tried a clean boot. I always play on borderless windowed mode. Next time I get the crash I will immediately do a system report for you and post. Thank you i'll get back as soon as I can. -

Everyone make sure their .Net Framework and C++ Runtime are the latest versions. These are typically done through Windows Update but can be missed or corrupted. Googling some of the errors listed some of them relate to one or the other of those things. I also do recall an instance where I moved my client et al over to a new laptop and it would not run, citing a C++ runtime error. Just a thought, if no one has tried yet!

went through and installed (was missing 2010 runtime) or repaired (reinstalled) each C++ Runtime (2008, 2012, 2013, 2015-2019)
crashed to desktop twice, both times with no error message

Do you overclock or something? If so then revert it please. And it can help when you disable the quickstart in Windows. If you have a SSD then the quickstart is basically useless because it does only slightly speed up the boot times. You can disable it with following steps:
1. Start cmd.exe with Administrator priviliges
2. Type following into the command line: powercfg /h off
3. Press Enter
4. Reboot the computer

windows had installed an update a while back without removing an older version, so there was 4 of the C++ 2008 (an older set of 32bit and 64bit, and a newer 32bit and 64bit versions) i uninstalled the 2 that had a lower version number
I did this after I had went through and updated all the other versions or installed any that were missing, I think it was the 64bit version of the 2010 runtime that was missing
That said the stability is only somewhat better as I still have some crashing, just not within 10 minutes of logging into the game like before, I was able to actually get in like 2 hours of playtime before a crash the last 2 days each after work -

I've been getting "A fatal DirectX error occurred.(11000002)" every now and then since I got a new PC.
Can someone explain how/why the audio enhancements might be causing these issues? I think in my case it's an issue with my overclock because in event viewer there's a bunch of Nvidia-related errors when it happens. But I do use audio enhancements as well so...
It happens so infrequently it's hard to nail down any specific details, but one thing in common is usually it's when I am on a safe zone map for around 10 minutes just chatting. So far it happened in 2 different houses and in Old Gridania.
Edit: Yesterday also happened during an alliance raid, just to make it even harder to pin down the problem. -

Has anyone tried turning off both Windows Game Mode and Game Bar? Used to crash for me randomly untill i turned both those off, lowered my FPS to 60 and set to Fullscreen.

Most recent attempt to fix this issue so far has been a motherboard change, I went from a X570 AORUS PRO WIFI (rev. 1.0) to an ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (WiFi)
kept everything else the same in my build, and has had the most stable performance so far
Ryzen 3600X / 32GB RAM (4x8GB HyperX FURY) / RTX3060 With the same Windows install on my SSD
I don't know what the the 2 boards have that make them run differently with FFXIV, one theory I have is how the ram trace topology is on the 2 boards, but I do not have the ability to test to confirm this at all
Edit: After changing out the motherboard was able to play on Tuesday (Sept. 14) for up to 8 hours with only a 90k disconnect error, that I am able to account for a possible router that needs to be replaced -

I've been also suffering from the directx error for 5-6 months now, but unlike for most other people I always get it as I launch the game, making it literally impossible to play.
I've tried clean installing drivers, I've tried running it both borderless windowed and fullscreen, reinstalled windows, underclocked/overclocked and tried many other things that are posted on different forums, but nothing works. It's extremely annoying and disappointing at this point that the issue has been around for such a long time and seemingly there is no clear solution to it and everyone is just guessing what might work. I love the game so much, but it's starting to get very exhausting that I have to spend so much time with trying to fix this... -

I have been playing this game since the start of 2016. Love it of course. But started having this very same issue pretty much the entire past year. Sometimes it's on and off, other times it'll do it a few times in an hour and I just quit the game. I have tried everything under the sun in OPs opening post same as they have, and nothing works. I have search high and low for solutions and seen threads as far back as patch 3.5 where this persists and I bet it's been going on before that also. I have switched my PC hardware as well. I don't recall it happening on my oldest system which packed an i7 4790K, Rog Maximus Z87, 32GB G.Skill Trident X 2400mhz, Samsung 850 Evo raid 0 and two GTX 1080s in SLI. Ran great on that system.
Later upgraded to intel i9 9900K, Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme Z390, 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z/R 4000 mhz, Samsung 970 Evo Plus, and the same GTX 1080s. Didn't happen with the 1080s but I picked up two preowned 1080 TIs and it happened from time to time.
I don't think it's hardware related because I've read about it happening plenty with AMD users. I upgraded to an RTX 3090 in April and it didn't do it at all for a month and a half but immediately started happening again when I did a fresh install of Windows to try and sort out something else. It happened infrequently then.
Now just this past week, I have changed my system to Ryzen 9 5950X, Gigabyte Aorus X570 Xtreme, and Samsung 980 Pro and same RTX 3090, same ram, it's happened twice in the past 20 minutes as of writing this.
This ongoing issue isn't the reason I upgraded my PC as much as I have, but I was low-key hoping that it would address the issue on the side. Nope. I run a pretty light version of windows 10 also and it's been new as of this weekend.
I know of someone else who was having this issue briefly and it was happening so much to the point the game was unplayable. When diagnosing the issue, they found that the system DRAM voltage was too high so they tuned it down a little bit. It may or may not have fixed it entirely but as far as I am aware, it has not happened since. Something I'm looking into as well with my own Ryzen system.
It's frustrating to say the least and I've since resolved to hoping that it finally gets addressed with the release of 6.0. Probably not. -

Haven't had the issue since my last post. Seems this game is very sensitive to system stability. Even though other games have no issues and all stress tests succeeded, FF14 simply doesn't like my GPU overclock it seems.

It's always the same response, it's always been the same response looking years back with this issue. Most of the time it seems like AMD is the issue, I've seen a few players with intel CPUs:s but mainly it seems like an issue with AMD. I've also tried everything, last time I reinstalled my OS and ONLY installed steam and FF14 and it still crashed. It's hardware related, windows warn for hardware error, it's not because of broken parts but some compatibility issue with certain hardware, and as long as Square doesn't actually let the devs look at this issue it will never be fixed, forum mods respond with at most 2 responses and then they don't answer anymore. This game works better with old hardware and clearly is a lot more stable with Intel.

To be honest I've tried every those moderators always post by same suggestion on this forum it change nothing, it still crash. this is my first subscription service game I ever play sure I need something difference from F2P game, more responsibility from dev for bug or crash fixing as worth as I've paid.
I would unsub until endwalker release and I hope dev could fix something about it. -

Don't know if this works for anyone else, it's been working for me for the past days.
I changed the CPU affinity for FFXIV. It might be worth testing.
For me, I set Priority to High and Affinity to only six cores.
For people who don't know how you do this.
1: Start the game normally.
2: Open task manager, go to details and look for FFXIV_DX11.
3: Right-click and change the priority to High and set affinity to 4-6 cores, or rather 4-6 threads. For me, I chose CPU 10 through 15.
The problem is that you have to do this every time you start the game, I made a script that does this for me but you can test it manually and see if it works for you.
I can help you make a script if this works for you, my is a powershell script that looks like this.
Get-Process ffxiv_dx11 | ForEach-Object {
$_.ProcessorAffinity=64512
$_.PriorityClass='High'
}
Save it as a .ps1 file and you can right click it and run with powershell.
What you have to figure out is the correct number for the Affinity, you can do this by following the first steps of the guide, open powershell and run...
"get-process ffxiv_dx11 | select ProcessorAffinity"
And you will get the correct number for your script file.
Also, if you have problems running the script you might have to start PowerShell as admin and change the execution policy by running the command.
"Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted"
Hope it works for other people as well.
Still, THIS IS A WORKAROUND, SQUARE! This is not a solution!
