youtube legal help

ok so i dont really know where to post this on the forums so i decided to post where i know people who work on the game will look, and maybe someone not from SE can explain something to me.

ok so, i uploaded this video today of me doing the easy garuda questline and killing garuda easy mode. and for some reason that was claimed under the copyright of SE (not in the take down way, but in the notice way)

so the question i want answered is, why is it that this video is flagged under copyright notice for youtube but NONE of my patch videos/other ffxiv videos that i make come up with the same thing?

its just so you can profit off it. but they wont make you take it down.

although it is weird they havent flagged the others if they flagged that one... maybe they hadnt seen them? :P

or maybe its the garuda song thats flagging something up?

You're best asking this to the youtube staff actually.

I know for a fact that sometimes videos are automatically flagged either by mistake or for whatever reason. Contact support and make sure you specify other accounts that produce the same type of content without hassles, there shouldn't be an issue at all.

i use FRAPS aswell, but i use a program called handbreak to turn that video (was about 7 gigs) down to 394 MB, idk how it does it wthout losing quality but im not complaining :P

The music is being matched to third party content (Square Enix and Final Fantasy XIV). Happened on our video as well which sucks because we can't monetize it.

I do the same with Windows Movie Maker.

I've had issues with SE and XIV before. The main thing is the music, as there's a good possibility they're set to auto flag music uploads due to the alpha soundtrack being leaked years ago, youtube's auto flagger probably caught wind of your video due to the matching system.

While XIV is being overhauled, copyright notices are a bit touchy, as you can upload XI videos all day and not hear a peep from SE, Youtube or Computer Software etc (JP) flagging you. If your channel is partnered that's also a big reason why you'll be flagged.

You can't monetize any video game video unless its with a partner like Machinima or you have permission from the game company.

Lots of people "try" anyway and type BS junk in the "whats in this video" section. Some get through. But any game company can block or have a video removed for monetizing.

You can because our DH, Ifrit and Moogle videos for FFXIV are all monetized.

This has to do with one of their tools for detecting copyright material. It detects visual elements which allow them to detect possible content that may be infringing on copyright.

You ever see a video where the images are clearly backwards, meaning letters are backwards, left is right, right is left? That's one way people get around it, currently they cannot detect that method.

You probably have nothing to worry about unless SE wants that content removed for whatever reason, but I don't know of any case, outside of ALPHA/BETA that they have before for FFXIV.

Just because you can or done so in the past, doesn't mean you're legally right. If square REALLY wanted to they could sue you for making money off their material without their permission.

As to OP

Often this is the case of a false flag but this time it seems correct. I've once had a preview track I uploaded flagged for copyright infringement, see here "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU_XsmfL1bU". What was odd was that I had written and verbal permission Katsuhiko Maeda himself to upload. Turns out it was some phony organization claiming it was their content.

Best thing for you to do is nothing this is just to prevent you from making money off of your video

Never said it was legally right. It was posted that you "can't" do it and I stated otherwise. The ability to do something has nothing to do with if you should or shouldn't do something lol.

Basically its a warning that you cant make money off of it and most likely because it belongs to SE, it is allowed to place commercials which makes them money.

DoctorMog, another program you can use is windows live movie maker to drop the size. That's what I personally use. The updated version.

thats what i do as well, i use WLMM to merge all the clips into one file, then use handbrake to lower the WLMM file down to about 400 mb

Unrelated a bit, but for those with youtube channels I recommend bandicam for your recording needs over fraps. It records and processes your files at the same time, so no need for handbreak or any post reducing of files.
