Instead of buying new servers why is the game punishing players by locking up the servers? All of Aether is now congested, which means no one can make new characters on or even transfer to Aether.

The players have given you so much money. Why don't you just buy new servers? Silicon shortage is an excuse when you can easily find a lot of servers on Amazon:

All you need to do is to buy the servers and ship it to the data center then connect them to a power supply. Seriously how hard is that? Instead we're punished as players. We need to demand them to buy new servers on Amazon and unlock Aether NOW.

Those vendors use the same shipping services as Amazon. It makes no difference whether you buy it on Walmart, Target, or Amazon. If they're that inflexible they need to be more flexible.

Then explain why they announced a new EU datacenter in 2019, right when Brexit started? UK was expected to leave EU in 2019, it just got delayed because of coronavirus.

Probably because they don't want us in another situation like before they made Crystal where our data center was constantly crashing. Most of our servers have been Congested for a while anyway.

Getting new servers is not all that easy right now - and obviously they can't buy just any old hardware, it has to be something with the right specifications whatever they are. And I think you seriously underestimate what they cost.
Oh, and just adding new servers to a data centre can't be done beyond a certain point, because all the worlds in a given datacentre share instance servers which handle all the instanced group content. They can only handle so many players at a time.

I'd think you would want to try a different DC where you aren't on everyone's blacklist list.

Wows servers cost are estimated years ago to be 120,000+ a day so adjusting for times probably closer to 180k+ I'd imagine ff14 has a similar expense. This guy wants them to just amazon servers and throw them in..

What makes you think those servers are in any way suitable? Besides, when buying servers from something like this you buy from a reliable vendor. Not from Amazon.

Sometimes it makes you wonder about the person sitting behind the screen and what their thought process must be like overall to post nonsense like this.

Just the thought that a huge multi-billion dollar company is going to immediately unlock the servers on their game because Venandi on the forums demanded "NOW" in caps. Or the assumption that an entire company has been struggling to locate servers for months but not one of their entire professional workforce had forum user Venandi's intelligence to type "server" into Amazon, so now the problem has been instantly solved.

1. This is an emergency we don't have the luxury to make everything fit in the data center. They can just code the server to be another specification for now or leave them on the floor if they don't fit.

2. If there aren't enough instance servers then just buy more on Amazon.

It's because the forums lack so much common sense that people don't see the obvious solution so Square Enix is constantly getting the wrong feedback. It's not their fault, it's literally because the forums keep making posts that are incoherent and wrong. People keep talking about a silicon shortage on the forums and so Square Enix believed them.

They do buy server from one manufacturer only for the stability because they are going to familiar with the hardware.
This is why you rarely seeing any issue during patch or launch day

OP seems to like putting their foot in their mouth on the forum by making posts like this where all they do is demonstrate their lack of knowledge or intelligence.

They need a lot of these machines for each server, because several areas are on each machine. Areas include locations you go to only once for a quest, so that is a lot of machines. Maybe it is hard to get that many of the same machine in one go or maybe the specifications are high and more competitive than what we would think, but it is hard for us to understand it when we could buy one on amazon or rent one easily.

If you are not working in the field of networking, get off your high house because server is never plug N play.

Wow server blades in 2007 where estimated to be around 15k a piece. Also they don't need to buy anything and return it. That would be a huge pain. I'd imagine the IT team has discussed what they want for this project. I'm happy you where able to amazon up some examples, but the reality is that's not the route there taking whether or not the route could function in theory is irrelevant. As someone with a friend that's the Director of IT at microage that routinely sells to blizzard I can assure you this amazon method isn't the route there taking. If you'd like I'll see if he can ballpark some of blizzards expenses, the last time I asked it was in the multi millions though.

So unfortunately even if somehow they we're able to amazon plug in play this in a day as suggested it doesn't matter because that's not the route they're taking.

When you run SE you can change it up. Right now you can vote with your wallet and unsubscribe.
