I stumbled across a Youtube video regarding server etiquettes and found my character standing around Gridania in a clip. It made me wonder, do people recognize others in the game like they do in real life? Just a random thought.

I recognize some names of people I've never talked to but see around.
For the most part no, though. I wouldn't even know if a person was a well known streamer or content creator, I watch none of those for XIV.
I recognize people from the forums all the time. They're inevitably people who fail basic mechanics because they can't do basic math or count. I make sure to blacklist them so I don't see them in Duty Finder ever again.
Oooo, I love this question.
I definitely do, because I'm always hanging out in New Gridania in the evenings and always manage to come across the same players. The thing that sticks out? Well, just their names and characters to be honest because I've seen them so many times. There are a few musicians who are always playing songs between 7pm-12am and it's such a nice time to just sit around with everyone and listen/applaud the bard(s). If I were to visit Limsa I'd have no idea who anyone was and memorizing all those people would be too tedious.
There's a few people I can recognize that I see often on my server, either because I pass by them so much or their character name is recognizable. Especially people who hang out in spots other then Limsa (shout out to Magnus on Faerie in the Saucer).
I can only remember one instance of seeing a streamer's character in game and it was pretty recent when Zadnor was introduced. Their character is pretty recognizable to me because I watch their content.
So yeah, if I engage in the person's content regularly, I will recognize them in game if I see them.
I've ran into some people that I recognize from the forums, and it's so far been all good interactions. I've seen content creators around in the open world, but that's about it.
I've seen a few forum regulars around in game. Of course, it's almost always when I'm on an alt instead of my main, so.....
I've recognized a decent amount of forum regulars from Primal around, many times over in Bozjan content. Even had forum lurkers who have recognized me, and messaged me.
No one will recognize me in game... for I am the silent wind of doom that can hide in plain sight... :P
I don't think I've seen anyone I recognize from outside the game, but I certainly notice familiar character names routinely appearing. Sometimes I see the same bards at the Gridania aetheryte putting on a show, which is always fun to hang around for.
Sounds like somebody doesn't know basic mechanics!
I've seen King Canadane multiple times on my server and I recognize them because despite being one of several million identical cat girls, they haven't changed their outfit since 1.0.
I've recognised a handful of forum posters in-game or on Twitter who I have befriended after one of us reached out to the other.
Equally, there's some individuals I have recognised and then actively avoided...
On occasion I've recognized one or two individuals who happen to both post here and play on the same server as I do. That's about it, really. Zalera is not the most active server in the game aside from the usual haunts.
I think I was in a cursed WoD run with a poster from here a bit more than an hour ago, their name seemed pretty familiar, ashlin or something
I play in the mornings, so I tend to bump into the same people more often.
It's cozy~
Even when having conversations here I don't generally recollect individuals. You're all kind of a nameless, formless clump I refer to as forum people. The people I get grouped with in game are game people.
The only time I've ever really recognized someone is when I got paired with them like 3 or 4 times in a row, which only happened once: I was farming Aetherochemical Research Facility for tomestones for the HW relic and kept getting grouped with a healer who was apparently doing the same.
I run into ppl on my alts (Primal/Aether).
I do recognize people, how they wear their glamour and the way they position themselves in the world.
I play over nights (EST) on faerie and I'm really glad I haven't bumped into some of the people on here from faerie.. I feel like I've dodged that bullet =P
I've run into King Canadane doing BLU log stuff, and in a trial or two. About the time I recognize them is when we get the clear. Real slow on the uptake for their name and look, despite it being consistent lol.
Other than that... I found Anonymoose and made him a buncha muffins, ethers, and a i510 SCH stuffs so he could catch up rq.
Beyond that... nah. Not a lot of forum people are on Primal, really. I don't think I've ever seen the other people who are, like Storm Churro.
Someone recognized me on Discord in the BLU discord, and said something like, "I recognize you! From somewhere. You wouldn't know me, though." Kinda spooked me lol. But I use my sig portrait almost everywhere, so I'm an easy find.
i dont.... the problem nowadays is the world visit thing. the pool of player got so huge its way more unlikely seeing other players often enough to remember them.
Noone has seen me. I'm not a person people notice. I hide in open areas.
I've ran into a number of people time and time again ingame, often through mount farms. You learn who to avoid, who you can party up with and have fun, and who to trust as your Dance Partner so you don't have to watch them be dead on the floor the entire run. T_T
The closest I've gotten really is seeing some people multiple times when doing things like extreme trials.
I don't know if there's really any big popular people that are on the Odin server specifically...
I recognise people on here from 2010/2011 and I sometimes see them in game. Those are the ones that stick out to me.
I don't watch streamers not really my thing. It has been so busy lately so everyone is just a sea of names lol.
Since World Visist, not really.
Back in ARR however, absolutely.
I've never really recognized anyone from anywhere. Anyone I like I just add to my friends list in-game. Though maybe some folks recognize me from my glam showoffs.
I saw Raging Stallion once. He was naked (or at least glamoured to be), crafting in Rhalgr's Reach. It was an experience.
