House plots via Mogstation?

Hey all,

Out of pure curiosity, how many of you would be willing to pay real money for a *permanent personal (non-FC)* house plot which would persist on your account forever, regardless of subscription status? I ask this because the dev team have repeatedly stated "server issues" being a significant factor in adding new neighborhoods and the money generated from plot sales could easily be dedicated to rectifying said issues.

I'd be willing to pay $20/$30/$40 for a S/M/L plot that I'd never lose.

Not at this stage of the game. I doubt I will be playing long enough to warrant the price. Anyway, that will never happen, housing is part of the game parcel you signed up for originally. That would be a disaster to change it now.

Mounts, glamours, and nik naks are one thing. Plots are another and would open up a pandor'a box to start charging for virtually everything. It also wouldn't solve the problem as people with tons of real life money would buy up entire wards...not solving the housing problem at all.

And if people leave the game or are gone, they need to lose said house as it opens up another opportunity for someone who wants a house to get it.

When you start charging RL cash for something that is already available ingame with restrictions (this doesnt mean a vague notion like “mounts are available ingame”) you start stepping into P2W territory.

If someone could just… buy the house for $20, it 1. removes the incentive to participate in the free version, 2. affects the economy of the game by removing a gil sink of anywhere from 2.8-50(ish) million per prospective player, and 3. fosters community resentment towards the game developers (“if they couldve done this from the beginning…” “why do i have to go into my house all the time while someone can just PAY to lift that restriction?”)

At this point, if that's how SE handles instanced pricing I wouldn't be surprised.

No thanks. Imagine the outcry when you pay a premium for getting a house.

If you think store mounts was bad, imagine having to pay twice as much for a digital space. What's next - paying a premium subscription to garden? (There is already suggestions for that sort of thing)

I've bought and lost a couple of houses over the years when having to take extended breaks from the game but didn't see the significant issues with availability then as I play on what once was a fairly small JP server. Coming back to find it essentially an "NA-lite" server now and experiencing issues getting even a small house got me wondering if a premium service with the intent of that money being used to rectify the lack of servers to host housing wards might be a viable solution.

I can't disagree, the community outcry would probably be more detrimental to the game than the current situation.

I don't like like this for reasons others have stated, but there's no way it would be a one off fee. Look at retainers and the premium companion app, these all require a monthly fee so there's no way a house could be a one time purchase.

Server costs aren't a one time thing, they're on-going.

There’s no feasible way this would work, it would be a PR disaster.

I mean a mount version of a 6 year old raid boss was released on mogstation and this community burnt itself to the ground over it.

The only reasonable solution is to either maintain course (which still gonna generate hate but it’s better than going to rmt for it.) or massive server and coding upgrade to allow for instanced housing that is provided to every player after reaching a certain point in the game. (Clearing base arr or some such.)

It's kind of funny how many people are vehemently against the idea and quote, "It'll never happen/disaster" when the same things were said when people were willing to pay for more inventory space back when two retainers were all anyone ever had period. Now you can have up to ten retainers, assuming you're willing to pay for the additional 8 (with one being tied to a 5 dollar app monthly cost).

I wouldn't personally spend real life money on owning a house. I managed to get a personal house before and just never did jack with it since I've put a stupid amount into my FC House. Got notifications about losing it since I never went to it and just shrugged, "meh" and lost it.

Unpopular opinion but, housing was at its best when it was only available to Free Company's (1 per FC limit) at launch. It actually had that community feel that the devs were going for. We had neighbors, people were actively around in the housing areas and I made some nice friends and neat rivals through it.

The mistake as also dump the purchase price on houses. 4M is coffee change.

I don't think this idea is terrible entirely. Other MMOs do sell premium housing in their cash shops. I'm not really sure of the logistics of it, or how they could implement it. But I'm not vehemently against the idea.

But atm, SE can't even keep up with current demand for housing. Until they get that handled, selling homes on the cash shop just won't be a thing.

Nope. It will not work under the current system because your ownership of that house would still be denying an opportunity for another player to own.

The issue with servers is not just one of money. It also involves third parties, availability of physical space and logistics. You need to go back and read YoshiP's statement about their plans to add new worlds along with the Oceania data center. They're running into a roadblock in part because the equipment needed simply is not available at any price (and they've been offering well over going market rates).

To allow players to purchase permanent houses on Mogstation would only take away the ability of other players to get a house at all if SE cannot get the servers needed.

If SE were to ever solve the supply issue so every player was guaranteed a house (not apartment room) as part of their base subscriptions and the Mogstation would sell to those who want to own more than one house, that I would be okay with.

Thank you for the info about their problems with getting servers, etc. I didn't know there was that level of difficulty going on in the background. Given that, I agree, permanent plot ownership via Mogstation purchase is a baaaad idea.


I sincerely hope SE learn significant lessons (most especially housing and related topics!) from XIV when developing the next FF MMO.

Thing is, the server to host that instance, would cost more then that. They are having trouble buying the space.

Further, your asking to pay once, for a reoccurring expense. It would have to be MUCH MUCH MORE, they'd have to assume that you'd play for 10 years, figure out the monthly server costs, increase that by 150%, then add in a bit like that $40 to the front end... so only 2 or 3 thousand dollars.

Or other MMOs in general.
Lotta lessons, good and bad, to be taken from FF14.

Again this useless topic, as long as the housing is not instanced, it will go away in 2 seconds, it will go away even faster and the whales will own the majority of the land.

As long as Yoshi-P doesn't want it to be instanced, it can't work. He's still hoping that housing zones are for community and socializing, but the truth is that you never see your neighbors, housing zones are like ghost towns.

The neighbors seem to come out of nowhere during the first few days of the patch and then disappear.

I don't see how this is going to solve the shortage problem. People who like to spend money will enjoy it very quickly, and will be inaccessible to the vast majority as usual.

It's an open subscription, people who can't afford to pay more than their monthly subscription for many reasons will never be able to enjoy it, that's not what Yoshi-P would like to do either.

This is a selfish solution that will only suit some people.
