So I recently made an elezen... and it might be time to unmake it.
Everything else is, okay. But this? Going to have rename myself long-neck Johny.
Edit: I've started using collars/chokers to trick my brain.

But why? They were trying to appeal to real life races that have long necks. Unfortunately they are not for you, but real life people/groups with long necks really like Elezen and would like to keep them this way.
The rationale that the FFXIV community uses is that everything is not for everyone, so no, the devs shouldn't waste their time because the lore and because this is how elves are in real life too and they wanted not to make them like tall Hyurs.
Understand, it's lore, real life long neck people, and did I mention how we should respect the Yoship's vision for a tall elf race? There is no room for compromise, unfortunately.
We need more sliders in general. Roegadyn that are small like lalafell. Miqo'te which can be fat as the ones in Eulmore. Beardslider so we can cosplay as ramuh.
And ofc the neckslider but not to make the neck shorter but much much larger! So i can roleplay as a real Dhalmel (giraffe) in the sea of clouds, would be a dream come true for me...
Jokes aside i feel your pain, Miqo'te also have a really long neck and i kinda hate that we don't have some sliders for these things.
Doubt it. If we were going to put a statistic on how many Thailand long neck people play this game I would bet on something below 1% if that.
I have a hard time believing that. I would like some quotes or links of people who play this game on Elezen saying that.
If I were to humor this comment I would say that in real life there is genetic variance.
There's no reason every single Elezen in the entire game should have the same length of neck regardless of sex or race variation.
I'm more inclined to believe it's a convenient excuse to hide the fact there are engine limitations.
There is always room for compromise the price just varies.
Short styles do nothing but bring attention to the giraffe neck, while the thicker, longer styles work with the length to improve both the Elezen's appearance as well as the hair itself.
I often find those styles to make other races look like contestants in a toddler pageant, but they actually look elegant on an Elezen. SE has been really shackled to the hairstyle contest designs, and all of them have been very short. Perhaps we will get longer cuts in EW, and we will see more fem Elezen running around without wearing the same three styles :P
Neck is long on other races too actually. It's the body proportions that makes it stand out on elezen.
I'd rather see Half Hyur/ Elezen like Hilda.
That way they could keep the long necks as being part of their race but also give people options.
Wait...
Wat?
I've never heard of this before xD.
I know that there's people who use those rings to extend their necks over time, but I've never heard of long necks being an ethnic thing.
That's just how elezen skeleton is, I don't think it's fixable without extensive rework.
Unfortunately, Elezen just have strange proportions, and there's nothing you can do about it. Their heads are too small for their bodies, which are, themselves, really weirdly shaped. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that they're SE's worst effort as a whole.
Screw it.
Giraffe race when?
Mix in an ass slider as well. The buttocks in this game are so flat you could lay a 2x12 from head to toe and not see a hump...
Yeah. I'd frankly just like my Miqo'te to gain about 15-20lbs in general, distributed over her hips, thighs, rear end, and a bit in the chest. I don't want her thicc - I just want something resembling a more typical female body size. And that includes, of course, having a butt.
I'm not convinced that rear ends are quite as prioritized or appreciated in far eastern cultures as in the west. I could be wrong - but most of the Japanese manga and anime I've read over the years featured girls with astonishingly large chests and disappointingly tiny rear ends. I don't know if this is some product of societal tastes, or art styles, or what it is, but it's definitely noticeable. It's a pity because having a bottom is... well... a big part of being an attractive woman. It's an element of the natural feminine shape - girls have curves, both upstairs and down.
Miqote have that problem too, I was wearing a short haircut with a certain necklace that hovers right around the midldle which put emphasis on the long neck. Removed the necklace and now it looks fine again.
I think this is the case in the West too, only without the chest part.
Look at essentially every woman in modern games, they have the identical skinny body with small rear and chest.
These are basically the reactions that you get:
Give women curves and/ or emphasize feminine features = accused of oversexualization/ attention seeker ( and it's totally one-sided only against women and feminine features ).
Give women muscles = she looks like a man.
Give women a bit of tummy = she's ugly and disgusting.
Just making them skinny with no real curves seems to be the safe option.
Meanwhile with men you can do basically anything.
I do think it's a cultural thing tho, look at black culture in America and how women look there it's totally different.
They're a lot more curvy and not necessarily in a skinny sense but they're not really the ones who set the status quo in more mainstream culture.
Stop you're gonna make Miqo'Te look weird to me now too lol.
This thread reminded me of this The Onion video lol.
This is the character creation I demand.

The game is desperately in need of an expanded and revamped character customisation system. Elves are usually one of the most popular picks in any fantasy game where they are available. That they aren't in FFXIV is a clear sign that there's major design flaws at play. It exists with other options, too - Highlander men being unable to have real eyebrows and more attractive facial features also lessens their overall appeal.
They're also explicitly called 'Elves' on the First...
:p
Guess I never saw the issue as I’m used to the elezen with long necks as they had the same in FF11. I’d rather get a butt slider
How about no? Many of us are quite happy with our elezens and embrace the giraffe jokes. I’m honestly tired of people trying to get them to change us into tall midlanders with pointy ears
The point is that Elezen are quite clearly meant to be the game's equivalent of Elves. Which they are, though rather than be handled in a way that makes them live up to their usual popularity they're now held hostage to niche aesthetics that can apparently never, ever be changed or improved upon.
That's but one potential aesthetic for them. I'm sure they'd also be exceptionally popular if they were closer to the Night Elves or Blood Elves of World of Warcraft. Or the Altmer of Elder Scrolls.
I think it would be more unsettling seeing it slide up and down in the character editor. And characters would look odd next to each other.
Better to stick to odd but defined "just how this race is" proportions.
Final Fantasy games typically actively embrace attractive aesthetics, though.
Elezen just aren't as good looking as they could and should be. It's been a pretty common complaint over the years and the contributing factor as why so few people actually play them. Of those who do, many seem to cling to them purely so they can 'stand out'.
It's fine to agree to disagree, though. It's just a video game at the end of the day.
I did not use such words to describe my feelings on the matter. I do not swear, on this site at least.
Given the lack of the race's popularity in general, though, I'd wager that the development team are well aware that they are a niche at best.
It'd be rude to randomly attack people for playing an Elezen. It isn't rude to weigh in on a thread revolving around the discussion of Elezen proportions to put forward my opinion on...Elezen proportions.
Elves are usually my go to in fantasy games where they're available. Especially ruggedly handsome Elves with a bit of muscle on them. Alas, even a decade after the game's original launch we're still lacking one of the most common tropes in a fantasy setting - a tall male option with classically handsome features and chiselled muscle. Pretty much every playable option has a major downside which is why requests for expanded character customisation happen to be common.
It worked for the art style of ff11. It just looks plain weird and unnatural in 14. There's ways to be actually creative without making things look disjointed. The posture literally gives them a potbelly in 90% of glams. Thats just poor design.Dunno how i have a lack of creativity for not liking strange proportions lol
At the end of the day that's your opinion, personally I don't see how it's unnatural when they're literally the same. Agreed about the posture at least.
I don't know!
personally i'm a fan of the redbill scarf
