Advice needed on Tenacity stat.

Currently just came back to FF after a 5 month break (was playing SL), since being back I have managed to get my ilvl to 521 as GNB.

My stats are as follows (secondary) /w No Melds:
Crit - 3435
DH - 380
Det - 1427
Sks - 1358 (2.4s GCD)
Ten - 1543

I was really looking into what stats would be ideal for me. I like to be a bit tanky, but do like to have a bit of damage for solo play. From my perspective, I always felt like a tank should be tanky tbh, but it seems the general consensus is not to meld or gear into TEN.

I want to eventually try some savage raids and generally just be comfy while tanking. What do you guys recommend for my stats as a GNB? What should I be melding too?

Sounds like you meld crit, skillspeed to whatever tier you want, and then Direct Hit with as much available space as you have left.

Seeing a problem with my Blasting Zone falling further down through my continuation combo. By the time I got to my fourth Blasting zone if went from being under Gnashing Fang to the end of Wicked Talon, it literally moved along 2 whole GCD casts on the fourth use of Blasting Zone.

Is that normal?

Just swapped out my Legs which was 530 (I JUST BOUGHT IT AS WELL!!!) for a 520 pair and noticed everything flowed better and my Blasting Zone aligned back to how it was, meaning aligned with Gnashing Fang. Can't believe it. I wasted my upgrade on something I don't need. Will have to wait and swap out other SkS pieces now. Anyways, I will meld Crit and Dhit I think.

I have melded full TEN available and have only seen mild results.

It's kind of misleading with the tooltip, and I kind of wish they just outright told us the percentages vs. a numbered value. Instead you have to find a calculator that gives us the percentages that can give us a rough estimate of damage/damage reduction.

This has helped me decide on melding, but you need to find the numbers you need for sks, crit, det, dh from other places for each and every single job. Each job requires different melds when you wish to play optimally. i.e. WAR doesn't need DH only Crit.

At the end of the day it's really hitting the burst window with everything possible, and TEN isn't as important. That's why you have mitigation cooldowns. But you can do w/e you want really.

I disagree, there are too many mistakes, just for the tank portion.

1. For Warrior, he said DH > TEN, which is wrong. Almost 50% of your overall damage comes from IR and Inner Chaos. Thus, DH is completely worthless for ~40-50% of your damage done. It should be TEN > DH. There are no SkS numbers which would be more interesting... which should be between 1015 and 1624 (2.43s - 2.37s)

2. Speaking of SkS values: Those for GNB and PLD in the video are also completely off. He is right, that GNB has a great variety, but fails to give a good example, and misses the right numbers.
2.1. If you want to play 2.47s-2.46s GCD, you just need 609-710 SkS, but that build has a special rotation which generally misses 1 GCD in every 2nd No Mercy window.
Your usual GCD for GNB should be between 2.43s and 2.4s (some builds go even faster, but those are either fight specific or to "fight against your ping"). For these GCDs your SkS value should be between 1015 and 1320. I have no clue where he gets those ~900-1100!?
2.2. For PLD he fails to mention that 814 (acutally its 812) (2.45s) is the ABSOLUTE minimum to hit 11 GCDs in FoF PLUS you can't have any interruptions, otherwise it's not worth. 900 SkS doesn't even change the GCD tier, while 914 does!
Again, your most common GCD for PLD is 2.43s-2.42s (1015-1117+), sometimes even down to 2.38s (1523+) for specific fights like E6s (Garuda + Ifrit).
Going for 2.45s-2.44s on PLD for general gameplay is just bad advise!

3. My last pick on BLM (I would want to do others, but then my post would be too long...): His advise is to go for comfort SpS then CRIT... You don't go for CRIT as BLM unless a. you get a sh*t ton of it and/or b. it fits with your party comp. If not, you go for DH >= DET after SpS. In general, CRIT is the lowest priority stat for BLM. I really wonder where he gets his information from...

Desperius is... not a great source for combat info for XIV. His videos are riddled with basic mistakes (like what Ariane has pointed out). And it's not just this video. His rotation videos are also suspect at times.

its been too many years since i looked at stat values, and i know they change, but wasnt TEN only 25% the dps value of DH? and IF its true, than a 60% DH value is better than a 25% DH value. (And if im even close to guessing/remembering right, wasnt DET 40% of DH? also making DET better than TEN for DPS)
of course i may be imagining the values, as its really been far too long since ive bothered to look.

DH is .1% for every 6 points (i.e. a .00025 damage multiplier per step) while Tenacity is a .001 damage multiplier for every 33. For every 66 points it is .275% dps increase vs a .2% increase. Tenacity has ~72% the value of Direct Hit for most classes but ~145% the value for WAR.

desperius is to good guide making as Ladas are to cars.

They work, but damn if you can't get better that isn't held together with vodka, tape, string, and determination.

As an "I'm new and wanna get the basic down" sure, desperius can work. But the instant you wanna improve even an iota? Move on to better sources. As soon as you start to read your tooltips and put 2 and 2 together? Move on to better resources.
