Missing spells.

I am nearly level 58 and well into heavenward (Morn is passing) yet I still don't have these spells.
Painfire lvl 52
Ruin 3 lvl 54
Tri disaster lvl 56

Can anyone enlighten me to what is going on here?

Have you done your job quests?

You need to do your job quests. Some spells, including all of those in the 52-60 range are rewarded from the job quests. You don't learn them automatically.

People keep mentioning these job quests. I'm not sure I understand what they are. I do the blue MSQ and the blue with plus signs.

Remember how early on you had to go back to the class guild and do a class specific story quest every 5 levels? That continues even after you unlock jobs at level 30. Go back to Gridania and see if Y'mhitra has a quest for you.

ok to the right top you see your msq well under that box is the class quest if there is one ready . you may have to check your main story questline, for my blm i finally figured out . that i need to get to a certain msq to unlock the quest . to get my skills going forward.

Yeah, I would go back to her often, we would fool about and she would give me a skill. That quest would be under my MSQ which I now know to be my job quest. Since my last one there has not been another appear. This is what has got me wondering where the heck those skills are and how do I get them. There is no job quest to follow.

Are you still in ARR/Post ARR?

Did you make sure to pick up the summoner quest from lvl50-60? for painflare, Ruin 3, and Tri-Disaster

And there it is. I started the game this morning and checked below my MSQ and wo-&-behold there's a quest (A fitting tombstone). Honestly nothing was there right up until I finished ARR, so I thought because they were above level 50 skills they would appear when I got to HW, but they weren't there when I looked the other day. After that my map could have been hiding the quest when it did finally popped up. I was in a sate of confusion.
If I had not made this post who knows how many days would have passed before I had noticed the quest was live. So a big thanks to you all for sorting me out. :D

It’s not communicated very well but job quests are gated to a degree, they don’t open up until you’ve hit that expansion where they were added MSQ wise. IE need to hit HW for 52-60 quest and skills, need to hit SB to access the 62-70 quests and the 70 skill.

It's a case of the game being very complicatedly simple. It's a million miles away from your understanding until someone explains it to you in 2 lines of text. FF14 does have it's own unique way of doing things.
It's a bloody good game I know that. I'm sort of massively addicted.

This is because of narrative time bubbles. That is, the job quests in Heavensward happen during the events of Heavensward, and the job quests in Stormblood happen during the events of Stormblood. To avoid story details happening out of order not making sense, the game requires you to advance the MSQ at least as far as the beginning of the expansion before you can continue the job quests.
