Level 90 Job Artifact Armours Looks so Bad and Borring

Probably there has been a lot of posts about this already but i just saw them and i wanted to share my opinions as well. So here we go:

Most of the level 90 job artifact armours sets looks extremely dull, boring and bad. I mean yeah there are some good ones like dark knight, white mage etc. And the summoner, i think summoner is the best one and got that level 90 vibes the most.

I mean these are supposed to be level ''90'' artifact gears yet they are so simple(in a very bad way), boring and lazy looking they look like they belong to level 50 artifact gears. And even level 50 artifact gears are so much more better then these ones. I mean they literally make your character looking like you are in arr and level 50.

Why are they simplified them that much. I mean i understand that they created these sets with characters core fantasies behind but still. Its like a downgrade from every bit of set we got and yet they all look so much familiar to the every other set we got before. It looks like it has been done before, countless times. Specially when it comes to black mage. It is literally level 50 gear set with tiny bit of changes. Even the weapon is exactly the same.

I am so dissapointed with this. I expected so much more. At least some glorious sets, but there is nothing glorious about these ones.

I feel like this is happening because artifact armors are made to represent your class, not your strength. They won't look like a powerful armors. Never. Same for lv80 ShB "artifact" armor. They are more like...that kind of stuff you use when you finally graduate.
I'm more excited to see our gear of progression. (like our current shadow/edenmete/edenmorn/etc).

But even if thats the case, shouldn't you be getting gear that looks better then the gears comes before. Even in the military, the higher your rank, the better uniforms you get, right? I mean even if they dont have to be glorious etc. They can still be unique, diffrent and exciting. Final fantasy team can come up with so much more better then this. Take gear sets comes before level 80 as an example. They are not that glorious as well. But they are diffrent and somewhat unique. They look like there has been some thought went about them. But level 90 sets are just playing boring

I always wondered why Squeenix even puts any effort into making those, since all the pieces are locked behind their Job anyway, which is a shame, since they have some excellent Glamour potential.

I agree with ya.
The relic 535 and blade armor ilvl 525 had some critics about simplicity/strange/laziness too.
Honestly as someone that always glam my gear, i'm not sure what should i conclude about it for now. I hope they still keep their creativity up.

I think i am very much fine with that. It is so nice to have a glamour set that representes your specified class. And no, i think they must be job locked. Cause it would be very odd to see a dragoon with a white mage robe or a warrior with dancer clothes. It would kill immersion in every avaliable way.

This is a bit subjective. I get what you're saying but wouldn't that mean that the team would have to hold back their best possible designs until the last ever expansion?

While I understand wanting to improve on what came before, theres only so much you can change and still have the job aesthetic be recognisable. What would a red mage set be without its red fencing jacket, or a warrior set without its bear fur and red accents? How many variations can you make on such iconic design elements that are objectively better than the last?

While I don't agree that they look bad, I do agree that most of them look pretty bland. It feels like the vast majority of them are just slightly different takes on the same gear we've been getting since the beginning of the game. I'd rather they take more risks and do something different or even do throwbacks to former FF legacy characters that even just tangentially represent the class in question.

Take the dancer gear, for example. I'm honestly not sure that I personally like it but I find it refreshing that it looks quite different from the previous dancer AF gear. Meanwhile my main class, RDM, looks slick enough but is just yet another red coat, thigh boots and plumed hat. It's not bad, just boring.

They look about the same as all the others. Personally extremely excited for the new RDM set. Cannot wait to get it dyed to finally perfect my Lady Maria glamour. I could coo and awe that RDM gets a set that isn't weird poofs and frills for days. I probably will do just that until it's in my hands.

AF armors are meant to reprensent each job, so ofc the new one will look alike the old ones. I personally like simplicity more than flashy and more original stuff everywere, so i always like the AF gear the most in the game even if it looks bland for most ppl.
The gear shared by all jobs are mutch better to create something new and original. There's less "rules" there after all. I'd love to see more fun and original gear go into the dungeons when progressing through endwalker's msq. Often it's just non-dyable gear from old raids (or just the same with another color and without mutch changes).

My biggest problem with the AF gear of the is the glam since i play multiple jobs in the same role and love to switch often. It's a bit frustrating tbh. I can't wear both glams at the same time or change it everywere or just wear it with any jobs in the same role (i mean a reaper with drg gear would look pretty cool lol but eatch way of resolving the problem is fine).
I get that they want to keep the image of eatch job, but if it just ends up transforming into something anoying to use when we play more ... It doesn't feel great. And let's be honest even if a pld can wear the drk armor, the drk armor will stay the drk armor, it's not like ppl will be able to get it without leveling drk (and it should stay like that).

Personally, I really like the GNB and PLD sets. SAM as well. RDM is par for the course. Red outfit with some flair, along with a fancy hat. Everything else...eh. I'm indifferent.

I think that was the point, to be honest; They could have added a bit more flash to the designs, but at the end of the day AF designs need to be iconic/easy to recognize as "Black Mage", etc.

....that said, I think they could have pulled some designs from other Final Fantasies, like Cecil's Paladin design or Rydia's summoner design from FF4.

Personally, I've been waiting for the iconic "Black Mage" set with the black face/yellow eyes. The Dwarves came close...but I'm talking Vivi/Gigi black mage.

DRK, WAR ,DRG and Reaper sets looks dope

But seeing that your main on forums is Astro I really understand your frustration.

Very disappointed on RDM and Ninja set.

Not necessarily. I personally believe that the gear should be different than what came before. And it is, for the most part. "Better" will always always be subjective, and asking the gear designers to make every new gear set "better" than the cumulative "betterness" of every single one that came before is just asking too much.

"Different" is a much better way to go about it. If each artifact set is different from the last, then that opens up choices to the players. Do you like the current [GEAR SET]? Yes? Then wear it. No? Then wear a past [GEAR SET] and enjoy looking like the best version of you that you can come up with.

And me over here super excited about all of them. They look amazing.

never use af glamour because it locks out for other jobs :(

I love all war gear sets, but this one is my favorite so far, the dnc one is a huge downgrade from the lv 80 imo (though a friend told me it looks more traditional to the job), and I'm not surprised in the slightest whm is female oriented

They did say the men's version will be different, but we'll have to wait and see how much.

I don't think they're terrible and there's a handful that I like enough to consider using. With that said, I feel as though some of them appear to be a little too similar to what we have already.

With that said, they'll probably be handed out for free again as soon as we complete our role quests and hit the level cap. Which also means being replaced rather quickly once the tome grind begins...

My guess is some of the dungeon/crafted gear at launch will be more impressive looking.

My only complaint is that the paladin set suffers from the same issue as the cryptlurker set, which is the cloak that clips with your tail.

And I'm not usually annoyed by clipping.

I think it is far more odd seeing them wearing casual modern clothing, animal costumes or bikinis, so please spare us with " immersion breaking".

AF gear peaked in storm blood with some minor exceptions.
I get that af armor is supposed to be an evolution from expansion to expansion, not a revolution.
But some barely change (ast and rdm basically being copy paste from lvl80), others are not even designed with male protag in mind

I always Love artifact gear i even think Endwalker sets are way better than ShB ones only one i think is meh is bards.

Everyones taste is different.
I think some of them look bloody amazing

Whether they're meant to represent a job or not, I feel like many of these are a bit been there, done that. I'd like to see something of a more innovative twist, which we saw with some jobs in previous expansions, e.g. HW and SB BLM. These don't look out of step with what we've seen for the past few expansions. There's a few I like, such as the GNB, SMN (looks decent on males), SAM (for the shoulders), WAR (showing chest) and MNK (for the mask) ones, but I'd like something a bit more switched up than this. DRG and DRK are again nothing too novel but I'd probably use those. Probably won't use ones like the RDM or BLM one, which is a pity, but we'll see how they end up looking on the model.

Well the entire point of these sets is for them to be unique to the job.

I wish they’d been a little more unique tbh. A lot of them look really uninspired and just copy pasted elements from past af gear.

Hey! They put a lot of work into those recolors! Personally i can’t wait for the undyable dungeon gear in 2021. Undyable dungeon gear 8 years after game release....geez

Being Unique, doesnt mean being useful.
Those Armorsets are usually only worn by People who can't yet affort the current highest craftable armorset from the Marketboard and beyond that, it serves no proper function.

For glamouring, if you want to have even one Piece of it applied to your chosen Job, you need to purchase a second piece of gear, just so it doesnt interfere with the Glamour of the other classes you leveled which share the same Armor-class. At the very least, Squeenix could design those Job Armors in a way, where for example, the PLD Job Armors could be worn on any Tanking Job and so on, otherwise those will just gather dust in the armory or straight up being tossed away.

The quality of the armor should reflect upon the quality of effort IN GAME to acquire them.

If you just get them easily after max level, then low effort is all it deserves.
If there is a quest for each piece, centered around lore of a particular zone. Then the art style of the artifact armor should reflect that lore.

Yeah...no. Job sets usually have a lot of detail added to them. Probably more than a lot of higher end raid gear. Sometimes they are hit or miss, but when they are on point, they are REALLY on point.

I've mained ninja since the beginning and I can honestly say I like this armor. Only set i've disliked so far is ShB to the highest degree. i actively use Heavenswards dyed pure-white. ARR's was befitting of the class as was StB(cutting it close to being to fancy like the ShB artifact armor however, imo)

It's only an issue if you play multiple jobs within the same role – and even then it's something you can work around with linked glamour plates if you really want to.

Personally I like having different glamours for each job and I usually work on levelling them one at a time, then at endgame I'm only playing one job from each role anyway. So if job gear is nice then it's definitely an ongoing option for glamour, not a waste of time at all.

i like EW nins af it looks very ff11 to me but i was hoping for more Edge inspiration same goes for Drg with Kain

Or...just link the glamour plate to the job's gear set so it switches automatically (as long as you're somewhere that gives rested bonus, just like any other glamour)

I don't know; I've been very happy with my Dragoon's lvl 50 AF gear and have been glamouring it exclusively since a binge of Tactics-inspired Glam back in HW. I guess I lucked out that DRG's first set was the most iconic of all.

I'll say this: they definitely look like stuff that's already in the game. Like... there doesn't appear to be a lot of innovation here, or covering ground that hasn't been well-trod.

Take the Dragoon set - that just looks like another Kain-style black-with-blue-tint-and-spikes-all-over suit. Yet, Dragoons have been portrayed as very colorfully-dressed characters wearing a wide variety of gear - particularly in FFIX and FFT.

We've already lived the Kain fantasy. We've done with like 5 different suits. Yet I've never seen anything that was an even remote nod to this:

...and maybe I'm tired of that Kain fantasy a little, at this point. He's not the only dragoon who ever lived, and they all, clearly, didn't look like that.
