Getting a new House?

What are any players’ suggestions about getting a house in game: do you choose based on your FC? I have been unable time and time again to find an open plot while in fc. Do you find this hard or easy? My main question is where else can I go to get a house? I’ve already got the apartment and a room in my Fc Company house. Do you really have to make your own company in order to have one or are there other ways around this. Thanks so much, :) happy playing ~

You just have to keep an eye out for plots that are about to go on sale and then hope you're the first one to click the sign for that spot as soon as it goes on sale. You don't need to be in an FC.

There really is no easy way. It may be worth noting that at some point in the future they will be instituting a lottery system as well as wards specifically catered to FCs only so if you can hold out then it might be better to wait.

I would keep an eye on the Goblet. There's still going to be competition, but that area seems to be one that has open plots more often than the rest.

If you're on a NA American server the bottom line is it going to be extremely difficult to procure a house anytime soon, even Goblet smalls.
If you have an active FC I would try assigning a whole squad to establish a house for the FC, otherwise I would just bear it out till 5.1

Doesn't matter whether you're trying to buy a personal house or FC house. The process and the prices are the the same - need to find an available plot and hope that the purchase timer has ended.

Supply is the problem. There simply are not enough houses for every player and FC that want a house. Except during the first hour that new wards are being added, getting a house will always be difficult unless SE finally decides to address the underlying problem. What changes they announced in the last live letter will not fix anything. They just push the problem around in different ways.

For now, don't worry about where the house is located. Just get what you can. Once you have a house, you can relocate to a more desirable plot if one becomes available (relocation bypasses the purchase timer since the net number of available plots isn't changed).

There are housing discords where player share information about newly available plots and tips for buying. You might want to join one if you're a Discord user.

Also, check around with friends you've made in game that have a house and see if they're willing to add you as a tenant. Some players with houses aren't actively using them so they're happy to give their friends access so they can decorate and/or garden. You won't own the house but at least you would be able to experience what it's like to have one.

A good tip I heard was to scour the Ul'dah residential district first. The plots there are apparently not as sought after as ones in other districts due to how they're built. (pillars on the corners?) Following this advice, I saw my first ever actually open residential plot in Ul'dah a couple days ago, after a month or so of casually looking at other districts.

Buy one there, and build your house up, and from there you can move your house to a different district when a plot becomes available.

Hiee!~ Wow, thanks so much for the well thought out and detailed message. Your answer makes a lot of sense to me. I tend to impulsively spend my gil on other things and then I wind up having to save all over again. What I want is any house really- with your explanation I’m trying not to be too picky. I know this may seem like a silly question but how would I find a housing discord? Provided you know of any! Great info. When you mentioned the first hour of new additional plot- do you mean frequently added ones?

Do you mean go for a particular house or spot? I haven’t really had any in mind.

Good thought, actually.. I like the idea of starting there since that is where my character was originally from!

I'm not totally certain why goblet houses are so maligned. They're the least "green" of all the cities housing. Very cut stone surroundings, but the common area pools are really nice and there's a few (small) house locations near neat scenery . The one I had there until I found my new shirogane house had it's own waterfall right next to it.

That’s so cool to hear. I am willing to go with a small location and setting. However, did want to start a garden. I was around for the release of that area- maybe I’ll check it out.

I tried there. The weird part is there are so many players and like hardly any houses? Lmao.
