Sir, this is a Wendy's.
SMN, MNK, WAR, etc.
There are a lot of plain/simple job icons. Makes sense when they're almost exclusively displayed quite small.
Regardless, I'm sorry to hear Reapers isn't doing it for you.
Maybe this will help.

I mean… Monk has 3 lines and das it.
And here I was looking at my fist thinking it looked pretty familiar. Guess you learn something new everyday.
Simple is good. It's an icon – its purpose is to be recognisable and distinct at a glance and at a small scale.
/ponder ...My only thought on the Reaper icon is: why a circle with the scythe?
It looks a little weird, and the intent of it is lost on me... It would have been seen as good by me, if the icon was half the Scythe shape, and half what would look like the silhouette of the Void specter that is possessing the Reaper as its host.
I should say I'm not expecting them to change it or anything. Just wanted to vent a little. Personally I think it would look better if it had just been the Avatars face outline or a cloaked figure holding a scythe or something... Kirby holding a scythe does not intimidation make.
That would be so hard to make out at icon size.
They're not supposed to be illustrations. They're not supposed to intimidate the enemy. They're meant to be a simple representation of the weapon used by the class that can be understood at a tiny scale – and I think it's fine as a stylised scythe and the circle representing the avatar.
I presume the circle in the icon is not so much meant to represent a Voidsent per se, but rather the portal to the Void the Voidsent is summoned from.
As Iscah said, Job icons are meant to be a simplified stylization representing the lore and weapon of the Job - the class icons are ironically more detailed depiction of the weapons or abilities they use - and as the Voidsent RPR uses is not a pet but an extension of the weapon, the icon makes sense.
Or at least, to me it does.
