Opinions on 71-80 leveling

Just was curious what people's preferred methods for leveling 71-80 are (particularly tanks but all perspectives on jobs are welcome). I personally flip back and forth between Zadnor and dungeons at the moment, but I had a thought about whether or not those who choose one method of leveling are missing out on learning something important to their job through another method. There seems to be a common theme these days of people being unsatisfied with how others play the game.

For example, if you choose to level 71-80 in Zadnor, you get loads of xp and can use your entire kit which is great for learning your end-game rotation as you grow, but you're not really getting the experience of wall to wall pulls that you would in dungeons. You also might not have many opportunities to MT in Zadnor, therefore missing out on opportunities to learn/play with your kit with higher level encounters that you may/may not get in dungeons or trials.

So, was just curious what ya'll think would be the optimal route to go on to get the most experience/knowledge out of 71-80 leveling.

no idea what zadnor is havent unlocked it then again i havent unlocked or done bozja that everyone keeps talking about either

iam oldschool the way i leveled all my alt jobs to 71-80 is by doing my trial/leveling/506070 roulettes everyday then doing the fairy beast tribe then queing up for the highest level dungeon i can until iam high enough to do the next dungeon. in the meantime while iam the 5-10 minutes for the dungeon to pop iam usually off crafting or something else

Generally, my way was:

Leveling Roulette > Beast Tribes > Raid Roulette (ideally Crystal Tower) > Daily PvP > Daily 50/60/70 Roulette > PotD

This is not to say it was necessarily faster to do it this way; rather it was what I could do in a relatively short period of time every day rather than long-hour grinds.

Probably PotD/HoH would have been faster, but these were not that interesting to me; or alternatively I did not do Eureka/Bozja for leveling. I was full 80s before Bozja, so I'm not sure what the XP rate is there.

At the end of the day, I found it was better to mix it up a little to keep it fun/interesting than beating your head on the wall. Like, I think I leveled a tank exclusively on PvP and Beastribes and just did roulettes on a DPS job.

I m leveling my classes to 80. The most efficient and less exhausting way is: DAILIES!

1. Pixies! 3 Quests, 5 mins, about 25% EXP
2. Duty Roulette: Alliance > Trials > Leveling. May take up to an hour, about 60% EXP
3. Daily PvP Frontlines. May take a while to get in, but about 60% EXP (not sure)

If you have time, you can do Bozja. Castrum and critical engagements are the most effective ways to get EXP.

In my humble opinion, I cannot recommend powerleveling by running dungeons (71-79) all over again. Especially with Trust-NPCs. Trust-NPCs are nice to get into a dungeon the first time. But for leveling, it takes way to long. And even with friends or a group, you need about 32 dungeons runs to level a class from 71 to 80. Even with a fast group, that process can take about 8 hours.

I just spam trust dungeons, it not fastest but i have to afk a lot so it fits my playstyle more

I did this for most of my dps. For healers and tanks I just did roulettes and dailies then just que'd the 71-79 dungeons.

That's my method too.
Keeps me easily geared and gives me practice with the job as it's kit approaches completion.

Personally I like to sandwich as much content together as possible that goes towards the goal I'm working on.

If it's EXP I like to sandwich instance queues with daily hunts/fates. Daily hunts I find to be severely underrated. They give gil, seals, and exp. EXP for Stormblood hunts is like Rank 1: 600k Rank 2: 800k Rank 3: 1.1mil for completing the whole rank sets. SHB daily hunts are like Rank 1: 1.5mil Rank 2: 1.9 mil Rank 3: 2.4 mil or something along those lines. It's not much, but they are very easy to do, and a level 70 job in full i400 can very easily kill a level 79 monster with chocobo aid.

I also like to sandwich fates and levequests between queues on combat classes because any leve will fulfill the challenge log entry granting a few million extra exp a week for very minimal effort. I generally hop into East Shroud and go through the leves that can be blazed down in about 30 seconds. There is, very occasionally, the chance I get interrupted and lose a leve allowance, but I generally don't care.

Also another weekly thing is Wondrous Tails. It gives a juicy Zenos dump truck butt load of EXP now, and you can complete it on an 80 job and then turn it in on a lower level job.

The only thing I like about EXP in Zadnor or Bozja is it aids me in skipping dungeons I don't like, like Dohn Mheg or whatever. It's also simultaneously progress in that system, but in all honesty I'd rather level outside in other instances. It's a personal note, but I prefer working my rotation towards a new skill instead of trying to put the puzzle pieces of the rotation together all at once. I think being denied skills for a while lets you more easily see how they fit into your rotation because you're looking forward to the benefit they could provide. Also when you run dungeons there's a chance you'll run into someone playing your same job but at a level higher than you. They can already have the skill you're looking forward to, and you can witness it be put into practice (though not often).

On tanks I usually just run dungeons because every dungeon over level 61 lets me get tank mount achievement progress. Queues are generally faster, but I try to sandwich at least fates or daily hunts where I can.

And like I said already, I really like pairing EXP with other rewards. Gil, achievements, tomestones, seals, mounts etc. I've gotten a ton of EXP on jobs trying to solo or taking groups down to 200 and up to floor 100 of the deep dungeons. They're technically intended for lower level ranges, but EXP is EXP and however small an amount you get, that's still progress towards level cap. Not a lot feels better than dinging a level off of finishing a floorset, and then getting to sell a rare mount for a few million gil.

I didnt mind taking a bit more time since I was in no rush to get all 80's, I knew I had lots of time before the next expansion and most of them were jobs I just wanted to get to 80, but not play, like.... mch for one lol

Roulettes ( excluding MSQ, I hate that one), beast tribes then dungeons. It was very important for me to queue up for dungeons because I wanted to play every job at their max level/rotation before reaching 80.
I've never touched deep dungeons, but I'll probably level in Zadnor when I'll reach this step with my alt character.

Just roulettes for me. Maybe dungeon spams if I wanted to finish a job quicker afterwards.


I've always gotten my jobs to max before the expansions "easy leveling" area was implemented so potd/hoh/bozja never helped me level anything

71~80 just spamming the highest MSQ dungeon in DF was super fast to me. Between 2 and 3 days per job really.

What I'm more asking for (rather than the best way to level to 80) is what leveling methods provide you with the experience you need to perform your job the best?
Like, what content/route exposes you to situations you NEED to know how to handle as a tank before you hit 80. Any particular dungeons, trials, etc. Like I said, I'm concerned I've been putting too much effort into one leveling method and unintentionally been avoiding other things that I should experience to improve my overall knowledge in tanking.

Like, I can get to 80 in Zadnor in 2 days easily, I'm more concerned about what is the best route to take in general so that I'm able to go into like...extreme/savage content as a fresh 80 tank and be comfortable that I won't just drag my team down or be called a carry since I've had experience with the content/mechanics needed to perform my job the best I can from first pull. I would rather it take longer to level to 80 if I'm getting extra knowledge/job experience with another way compared to my normal.

I have almost all jobs at80 without any grinding.
I usually do the leveling roulette once per day and sometimes the 70-80 one and that's it.
Just that every day until all jobs are at 80 XD

If grinding, I think all roulettes once per day (including MSQ if you feel masochistic) and Zadnor in between

For my 80 alt jobs I used the same pattern every day : 1 Front, 1 MSQ roulette and the 3 daily quests from pixies.
Fronts are good, but MSQ roulette is ultra boring. Fortunately, it requires minimal efforts and can be AFK in cutscenes.
Zadnor is indeed quite good, but the zone is dull AF.

Zadnor is BYYYY far the most efficient leveling and add in the Beast tribe quest.

Leveling won't prepare you for ex or savage fights. Best thing to do is just level, then use the training dummies and run regular level 80 content.

Make sure you read your skills, etc.

Best way to level? Stick to the content you enjoy so you're having fun instead of turning it into a job you hate. There's no reason to rush a job to level cap unless you intend to make it your main job. Even then, I would still stick to doing the content you enjoy and ignoring the rest even if it's technically faster.

Personally I used MSQ Roulette + hunt bills + beast tribes (sometimes would toss in a Leveling Roulette but not often). That would get a job 71-80 in less than 2 weeks.

You can't.

The problem with XIV's combat (and I know I'm barking at the wrong tree every time I call it a problem) design is that it lacks any depth on its own unless there are boss mechanics involved. It's extremely repetitive and if you're not a healer or tank you're expected to play the same melody ad infinitum no matter what you're fighting.
You could master your rotation perfectly with dummies but that doesn't matter much because that's the very basic. And the game expects even less than that of you in leveling content.

The only way to be "ready" for endgame extremes and savage is to practice the fights themselves. Dealing with multiple boss mechanics is drastically different than 99% of the content you do while leveling or running expert dungeons.

Trusts.

Not the fastest but I'm getting my goal of maxing them out done. Only have Ryne left after I'm done with RDM.

I do the roulettes first, then challenge log, then I spam Bozja.

The content that would teach a tank its job the most are dungeons for traditional dungeon gameplay, which is fairly simple. For raids, closest you're gonna get is Normal mode raid, Alliance raid roulette, and Mentor Roulette. To a lesser extent, Trial roulette. In general, almost no normal mode fights require tank swaps. That's about the one mechanic you need to step into an extreme of some sort for, since I think A7n is about the only normal mode raid that even has a tank buster that puts vuln stacks on you. Even then, you're so overgeared at each plateau that it doesn't matter much.

So for the most basic functions of tank you learn in dungeons and normal mode raids. This consists of large trash pulls, appropriate cooldown usage on bosses for tank busters, and picking up adds as the OT in any normal mode raid that has such a thing.

That said, tank swaps are ridiculously easy since Stormblood introduced Shirk. You just provoke and the current tank shirks you during the tank buster/swap condition cast. Easy. Done. If shirk's down they'll need to turn off their stance and you'll need to be johnny on the spot making sure you're hitting as hard and as fast as possible to break it off them.

But it's kinda like what people already said too. You only really learn your job fully in fights that require the full use of your job. Which is really only select extremes and Savage fights, and even then, some of those basically have the OT sit there whacking away for most of the fight, doing mechanics the same as everyone else, falling asleep in the co-pilot's seat.

Just join learning parties or make one yourself, and don't be afraid to ask people questions or look up the answer from guides.

Edit: And oh yeah, it's fight dependent again, so you'll learn it as you do fights that require it, but there's plenty of fights that require the OT to be #2 on the agro list. Play it by ear!

well do roulettes, try trust systems or queue for highest possible dungeon. i as some others dont know how many exps you can get from Bozja, but its totally okay to level up slowly and not having entire battle jobs at 80 in the week. doing fates when waiting is a nice thing too.

This is what I do.

1) Leveling Roulette.
2) Alliance Roulette. (F**K MSQ Roulette unless you need the poetics for gear upgrades).
3) Il Mheg Beast Tribe. (while queueing DR)
4) Bozjan South Front fates & CE. (Level 71 onwards)
5) Hunt Marks. (while queueing DR)
6) Fates at your level.

Bozja is great for skipping to level 80 and not having to deal with gear, but it's repetitive. If you can fit in relic progress it's probably the best choice. I still use roulettes for some variety though, it just makes leveling feel faster.

I just AFK in the Gold Saucer, queue for my daily roulettes, and then alt tab out of the game until they pop, all the way to 80. I levelled up a few jobs while doing Bozja and Zadnor content for the first time but have never gone back there for the sole purpose of levelling up a job.

I got everything to 80 via trusts before there was any real alternative methods available. Including the bonus to trust exp uguu.
Though I did pepper in some MSQ roulettes.

I just got my PLD to 71 the other day. After grinding Bozja/Zadnor for BRD, I'm going to stick to Faerie dailies, roulettes, FATEs, and Trusts. I get nervous enough going into dungeons I haven't done in years; there's no way I'll level a tank without actually tanking real dungeons/trials/raids before hitting 80.

Agreed. Pixies are amazing. Over 900k for 5 minutes work. Not bad at all. The pvp frontline is a huge chunk too and easy. Sucks after a certain time of day though. Almost instant queues at reset. MSQ roulette is your best friend as well.

For me i do roulettes and run it with Trust. Did the same for 81-90

Queue roulettes (pretty much all) > do dungeons on DPS > while waiting for queue on DPS get another job through fates.

Also don’t forget to do Wonderous Tales, and other weeklies.
