Just wondering if it was supposed to be a secret or not.
Where does one find "coke"
Thanks.

ppl have it up for sell but no one is telling where to get it
NPC sells for 100k @ the hamlet, not sure if it's mined as well.
I just hope it can be obtained some other way... HQing ingots is going to suck.
Well I'm sure not buying it for 100k a pop, going to need alot of and hq, anyone find out where you get this at? I've asked alot of people and no one knows...
Thanks
I asked a ton of people and smart asses they are most said Columbia, like that helped at all, lol
As far as anyone is aware the only way to obtain it currently is in NQ form from the Hrystmil vendor. Perhaps for some sort of Hamlet event it can be a reward?
there must be somewhere else to get it ;;
This is definitely not true. I tried a few synths with 2 x HQ Nuggets and 1 Coke (bought from NPC). Quality starts at 333. I was able to push it up to a 38% HQ chance on my highest attempt. I think it was just over 700 quality? It did not HQ but that is still decent enough odds (including a 19% chance at DD).
I do not believe there is a HQ coke in the game like gathered somewhere. The purpose of this is twofold. #1 It keeps the "difficult synthesis" difficult since you cannot just go out and mine HQ coke, ultimately making these items easy to synth. The fact that the coke is only NQ makes sure that a crafter DOES need to have some skill/luck to HQ the ingot, or to HQ the part with NQ ingot.
#2 Since it's only sold from NPC for 100,000 per, it also acts as one of the few gilsinks added to the game to balance out all the gil coming into the economy.
terrible idea for the way they have made coke only obtainable from a NPC @ 100k a peice i enjoy gathering farming my items for crafting,
as for the cost of it i consider myself a rather poor player on XIV and have just under 2mil and i will not spend 100k on a peice of that garbage, and whats the point in putting in NQ darksteel if you need HQ to make the material for the peice of gear...........
Thanks SE, just a shame I added more crysta to my account this month or id be off to guild wars
Gone to huff in the corner.....!
Good chance it comes from Hamlet defense battles, since those haven't happened yet. Gotta wait till the weekend!
Glad to see somebody else sees the stupidity in this.
Well if anyone was found any coal deposits while mining I will know exactly how to get coke.
It's going to be prohibitive to make these, I wouldn't mind the coke nonsense as much if they were usable by jobs, and hence the demand for them actually warranted the difficult synthesis.
Should average 2 coke per piece. How long there will be a demand remains to be seen.
Quarry and its in patch notes guys.
I mean...you could just wash it with some aether, but who knows really....
Again, jokes aside, this X10 is the point of these synths.
Please don't complain about it, there are players out there with hundreds of millions of gil looking for a good reason to spend it.
Well, looking at the new gear, there's some decent justification of getting them so prohibitively expensive... With the right materia (and hopefully some double/triple melds) they're probably the best armor in the game. Not to mention you can HQ the armor pieces for even better stats.
mmm... now to hunt for HQ stuffz...
I don't see what the problem is at it costing 100k gil. As someone else pointed out, it's a much needed gil sink but more importantly, to those of you who enjoy gathering and selling/using items then just gather and sell Darksteel Ore, Gold Ore or just any of the hundreds of items that sell pretty fast.
If it turns out to be a rare gatherable item, that's fine also. But I can't see complaining over 100k gil for an item that can get you some nice gear.
Well Peacock ore is not really much as a concern as is Coke atm. Peacock ore is only used atm to make Rose Gold Inogts, which are only used to make "Flawless Rose Gold Clasps" (HQ of Rose Gold Clasps), then can be synthesized into Rose Gold Earrings.
I completely agree with Crimzon.
Per "Introducing All-new Gear! (04/23/2012)"
Competition, the Mother of Innovation
After the establishment of the Grand Companies, each city turned an eye to crafting quality arms and armor with which to outfit their respective forces. A growing number of adventurers can be seen clad in this official equipment as the Grand Companies continue to reward faithful service.
There are those, however, whose livelihoods have suffered from the availability of such equipment—the armorers and weaponsmiths who rely upon the custom of adventurers. These craftspeople began searching for a means to rival the companies’ superior wares, and eventually discovered their salvation in working with darksteel ore and hippogryph skin.
Though well known for their incredible strength and durability, these materials are notoriously difficult to shape and deemed ill-suited for mass-production. After much experimentation and deliberation, however, the masters of each guild developed improved crafting techniques. Thus were they able to forge a new series of unique items.
The invention of new crafting methods has made such arms and armor possible, but the process is still said to test the skill and patience of even the most seasoned smiths.
The problem isn't the difficulty, or the fact that they're class only. It's the two together.
Sure they're great, but classes are not. The demand for awesome class gear is not equal to the difficulty of these items to make. And when class AF is out, I can't imagine these being worth anything at all. Either way I'll still make it, and I enjoy the challenge, I just think the two together are a mistake. And that crafting needs to be able to make expensive things that are useful to end game players that have the demand and money to pay for them.
Yet another intelligent reply thank you Mijin.........
This whole patch just stinks of being 2 months late for me, they maybe lost this patch somewhere in a locker, a drawer or cabinet in SE HQ and found it again and thought oh a ready made patch lets put it out and pretend we made some more content...............hmmmm
and to the gather items to sell them idea, why didn't I think of that what a super idea............when I said I like to gather items, I gather the things I want for my crafting not for pure profit so that I can craft on my own steam, all the rest goes to the npc (good thing about him is he accepts all kinds of garbage and still pays gil)
if NPC sells em for 100k, why are wards selling them in stacks for 85k? let's be honest here your buying a material for 100k yet selling it for 85k? your not making profit so there must be another source available that we aren't aware of and my only realistic thought would be Hamlet, however there's stacks upon stacks in wards, hamlet takes 50hrs to prepare things just aren't adding up
coke on durandal was 51k each and we were at lvl2 during defense mode so maybe depending on how well we gather/defend the price of the materials we use may go down.
Seems like people are keeping a tight lid on this to maximize their profits.
Coke is 50k from the NPC duh, it's been discounted either by the hotfix, or something to do with Hamlet rating. Also cluster is 21k.
Still 100k on Gungnir.
was 100k during battle phase for us too
