Why do people hate old content in this game it is some of the best/peak fiction content in this game. For example os12 is one the greatest raids ever to be made in ff14 history there are very few raids like it if any at all. Es11 is also an example of a very good raid not OS12 level but good enough. Content in the game that isn’t peak level is given no care to make it last long. Soon Ivalice will be just like crystal tower in terms of boring. I blame the power creep but also content in this expansion is noticeable easier and more accessible in my experience

see but I love ivalice its amazing I personally enjoy arr extremes as well it isn't bad content SE should give more incentive to playing it so others will do it. What ends up happening is new players do all the old content unsync get to current content and don't understand what a light party is. They don't understand basic stuff you learn in older expansions I see groups of people wanting to do os12 unsynced you cant teach that fight unsync except for a few phases its sad to see such an amazing raid shit on

I believe it’s less about people hating the older content and more so there is no reason to do it. With the exception of hunting for glamour, mounts etc. There is no major incentive to go back and do anything older no matter how amazing it was. Sadly that’s just the name of the game.

my friends and I regularily do the roulettes and the like, or do places for glam items, but aside from that, there is often less reason to visit it. If you do relics, you will visit older content, but for the most part, developers code forward, not backwards, and thats where the players spend the most time

People don't hate old content, more like we already did the content and got all the rewards from it. I'm only doing some Stormblood Extreme fights for a friend right now because they are newer and want the nine tailed fox mount. O12S is a great fight, yes, buti already have the gear I want glamour-wise and the Omega mount. People want to do Eden because that's the newest content. Only reason to do older content is to get stuff for yourself or help a friend or FC member get rewards.

IMO the reason old content is oftenhated so much is because the game has so little contnet to do at any given time that it literally gets ran to death...
when players end up run paradgims reach 6+ times a week for example chasing there weekly drop for 3+ months because thats like the only raid thats current or worthwhile in terms of gear. combined with even more running of the previous 2 for the coins to augment tomes...
it no surprise players hate it becaue theyend up running it 100+ times in 3 months and totally sik to death of it. all of the gamescontent is the exact same.. there's so little content that you could label relevent at any time that its gets ground in to the earth and no surprise players enver want to see it again. -

I'm new here and i haven't been to ishgard yet, i'm loving the content. The crystal tower was a little boring but the alliance raids were fascinating. I had many good laughs and enjoyments in the manderville questline. That guy is awesome ^_^. I enjoy doing the simple dailies of the beastmen as well as taking my time getting all my jobs to level 50 ^_^. As a new player this game is amazing and i havent even touched any of the expansion content past the base game.
I'm kinda of sad to see a lot of negativity here on the forums though. As someone coming from WoW this game is just the best, and i met a nice free company who has been extremely nice and helpful and i get random whispers from people making sure i'm doing ok and if i need any help. I would never imagine such kindness and compassion in WoW, if anything WoW's community and playstyle makes the community despise you if you dont keep up an elitist level. Even if you were new to wow or content people expect you to be a master at it and if you aren't you get booted and scorned. I never had any of that here in this game. i Understand all the reasoning behind why people might not wanna do it but for me Strictly extremes/savages and such teach a lot and way too many new players run through them unsync and know nothing at all idk paying for allthe expansions and only playing 1 tier of raids IMO is not worth it and getting to do the older "end game" content helps better prepare players for current content as well.

I guess that my own personal grip with older content (speaking about dungeons mostly now) is the downscaling and restriction on usable skills.
After spending a lot of time at higher content/end game the restriction of skills do make the content I do feel more sluggish, even if it isn't compared to when I played it while leveling.
And pressing the same 2-3 buttons over and over instead of my whole hotbar isn't the most fun.
But I can endure it.
I just don't find it as fun as higher content where I got everything at my disposal. -

I agree in dungeons I don't care for it strictly raiding/extremes like I have played with people who do higher extremes/raids and don't even know what mitigation is or a tank buster??? mainly because they do everything on unsynced for first clears I just wish this game gave more incentive to older content and learning it for new players.

And many of these same people also never really did the old content the way it was meant to be seen. Either they did it synced, where everyone is so overgeared that they steamroll through it; or they unsync it to just get credit for clearing it.
Take LOTA, it always pops up in alliance roulette and people are sooo tired of it because it brain dead easy now and boring, boring, boring.
BUT...Try running it MINE if you can, it's a WHOLE different experience!
I was lucky enough to be in a MINE run of LOTA a few months ago and honestly it was the most fun I have EVER had doing that instance. We actually got to see the mechanics of the fights and the wipes were just epic! Who knew Behemoth could be such a BITCH to do when you are ACTUALLY doing his mechanics. :p I think we had 2 full wipes before we were able to beat him. LOL
Syrcus Tower was another really fun one to do MINE. Dealing with Scylla's tricks was quite difficult on MINE and Glasya's jumping platforms were just WAY too much fun! Yes, you ACTUALLY get to use them on a MINE run! :D -

I want to be clear - I have no problem explaining fights to someone, I have macros even dedicated to things like Copied Factory to explain every encounter. People who want to learn and take inclination of desire to learn, I'm all for it.
When you try to explain a fight while fighting, sure it's a bit more tough but can be done.

#2 has become a problem in this game. I shudder when I see a sprout in an Eden fight, and before you can get a word out, they are pulling the boss and they have no idea what they are doing. It would take a simple, "Hey, I'm new here" in party chat and people would JUMP at the opportunity to help explain it. But, they prefer to faceroll it. It ruins the experience for others, for themselves, and their integrity in the raids. I play a healer a lot while raiding. When I see them do that, I try to correct the behavior. I get ignored, so they stay dead. They can watch and learn the fight, because it's frankly not worth it to the raid's time for someone to ruin that experience. -

...and for me personally: My static always had a casual, but "we dont look at guides, we figure this out ourselves" approach. So we often spent more time on some bosses than we actually would liked to. I dont need to go back there, I have my preciouse memories of finally killing it for the first time, I have my mount, I have my glamour... Why should I go back? I dont hate those fights, theres just no reason for me to do them again.
Little sidenote: Since you talk about new players needing to learn mechanics and the like... could you consider learning how to use punctuation? Your posts are quite difficult to read without it. -

The reason old content isn't liked is because 99% of players are not looking for challenge. They want to play casually and unsync old extreme and savage content to get the mounts, with no respect for how challenging it is if you do it minimum item level. They may do the current extremes and savage because they need to for the best gear, and then have the audacity to complain there is not much challenging content in the game when they unsynced everything.
That's just how it is unfortunately. -

The only content people really hate is Praetorium and Aurum Vale. I mean the only reason people are not running Alexander Savage or E-Scape Savage is because the people who play that content did it already, and the only people left who haven't either don't have the time to work on it, or simply don't care about the content. Savage raiders make up probably 5-10% at most of the player base.
Also, to do older savage content the best Synced weapons usually are the end game relic weapons, which consume a lot of time to grind out. This goes for Ultimate as well. -

I Understand your point, but I am not saying *you* or anyone has to go back and do them, but from my encounters from doing content with newer players is you have literally have sprouts doing os8 to unlock ultimate's without understanding the fight they did, and without doing any content synced there are a ton of discords that offer synced content to do. In my opinion we have 4-5 months until endwalker I'm sorry it doesn't take 4-5 months to clear 4 eden savages. However I understand your point I dont have a problem with unsynced content, HOWEVER it doesn't make new players better if you do a8s and unsync it and clear it in 1-2 minutes IMO

Idk I just wish this game gave more incentive to new players doing older content and for older players doing it with new players.

Once the reward for a piece of content has been exhausted beyond that of self-satisfaction then a dominant part of the incentive to do the fight ceases to exist. - I don't think it's as much about hating on the content as much as it is the incentive just not being there to where the interest just becomes non-existent.

but by that logic once you obtain BIS/mount from savage Eden there is literally "no incentive" other than a parse lmao which is just for ranking/self satisfaction (ofc self improvement) but if u cleared the same raid 40404 times there really isn't much incentive by that point. I like seeing the player base as a whole grow and get better its hard for new players minus streamers to improve when they cant even do older content to try out raiding which sucks in my opinion

The only thing I hate is just how brain-dead a lot of the players are when doing old content. They think they can race through and be greedy with their DPS but that's never worked and never will work. The attitudes are also very toxic in the early raids and people just seem to love to counter someone elses' comments. It aint my fault people didn't read tactics before joining the duty nor spent a minute before engaging the boss for someone to explain what to do. I'm British, it's in my nature to complain, so please stop telling me not to complain because after wiping 4 times in the same raid I'm bound to say something and even when it's not a complaint I'm immediately countered and accused of complaining, like don't you want to learn the fight so we don't wipe a 5th time?

It's because of vertical progression. Also, in some of the older MMOs, there used to be legendary type of artifacts and such that would always stay relevant (i.e. items that make you float or plate-looking armor for normally cloth-wearing classes). Things like that made older content relevant.
In FFXIV, you basically "consume" the content and then wait for new content. Sometimes they make you do old content to get to or through new content; this makes the older content relevant for a little while until it all gets consumed again.
It's a tradeoff in a ways. In this model, you are getting new content in a somewhat frequent way (new items, dungeons, etc.). In an older model where everything stays relevant, you would be wary of introducing new items that could break the relevance of older items. Or you would just introduce very similar items (or basically the same items). -

Don't really dislike old content although I attribute that to the fact that I've been playing the game less and less over the years, and this has had the rather pleasant effect of keeping things relatively fresh for me. There have been dungeons I straight up haven't done in years so if, for example, I get them on roulette, it's a surprise that makes me go "oh sweet. Been a while."

I suppose there is an incentive for me to play older content to help friends who’ve recently started playing to clear it. But for myself I’ve gotten most of the mounts and glamour I want. So my only incentive is to help friends.
