How to level a second job?

Good Morning Everyone,

I just got back into the game after a long hiatus and decided to level a Monk. I just got my Soul Stone last night and am at level 34. Back when I played before, the Ninja was kind of interesting to me. My question is, since I am level 34 and have completed many of the main story quests already, what would be the best way to level a Rogue into a Ninja without the help of the main story quests' EXP? I should also mention that I am on a server that gives bonus EXP. I appreciate any constructive insight that you may give. Thank you.

• For the first 7-8 levels, you can just kill mobs.
• There is a hunting log you can open if you press H. The experience is nice.
• You can do fates, the purple circles that appear on the map when you press M.
• You can do guildhests from level 10 if you've unlocked them. There is a first-time bonus of experience for each one on each class. They are tutorial dungeons that take 1-5 minutes.
• You can do Palace of the Dead. This is unlocked at level 17 from the quest "The House that Death Built" in Gridania by the airship. It's a blue quest.
• You can do the dungeon closest to your level, which gives the most experience points. Palace of the Dead can be a quicker queue on a DPS because there are no role requirements.
• You can do your daily roulettes (Leveling Roulette and Guildhest Roulette) in duty finder, which you can open with U.

When leveling a second character, you have to do the story again.
When leveling a second class on your first character, you don't have to do the story again.

Oh, My info was wrong then, or maybe the question was wrong. I thought you could boost a alt avoiding ARR all together. Thanks for putting me right.

You can boost an alt character through the story if you are prepared to pay for the boost on the mog station, yes, but you can boost your first character through the story that way too.

I won't to play the full story on one character but not on any alts I make. I found the story to be a bit of a slog up until around level 45. Then it started to open up and get better, or maybe it's because I am finally understanding and getting into the story, but I wouldn't want to do it more than once.

The game is not very alt friendly. You are better off doing the different jobs/classes on the same character as you don't have to do the story again and you have access to everything you have unlocked on that character.

That's because the story is different depending on which class you start with up until the level 15 quest. Then it has to introduce all the characters and the wider context of the world. None of that is very exciting but the way high points are created in this game is by first creating times where nothing exciting happens.

What makes it a bit of a slog isn't the story itself but the fact you don't unlock mounts until level 20, your mount speed starts slow, you need to attune to all of the aetherytes so you can't just teleport to a new area and having so many dungeons in ARR all packed together.

Is there some reason why I can no longer post on this forum (New player help) it's now blocking me.
This is no longer my main character so it's not likely to go above lvl 20

If your new character is too low level, it won't let you post, so you may have to keep it on the current one until level 20.

No the one showing as my avatar. The one I had to first select before I could post I left at lvl20 . My main character is now lvl 56. It's a bit screwy that you can't change you character with the forum as it seems I will never be able to post unless I pick this one up again.

I mean what happens if I delete this one (Lucid Rankmire)? Will I get the chance to select my main character then?

You can change your character.

Settings in the top banner
Edit Character in the left bar
Click the star on the character you want as your avatar and set your primary job.

Darn, I'm sure that didn't work this morning. I didn't even get a choice. Also I couldn't post on the new player help page but now I can. Is it possible there are 2 new player help forums? I think the one I was on said something like version 1.0, were I don't see that here. Thank you for your help.
