Future patch request.

Hi SE, today I'd like to make a request for the future if I may.

Could you please schedule the occasional future patch for Japanese prime time instead of USA prime? Maybe one out of three, or four patches?

Not trying to troll, it's just a real request for the future. Thanks!

It might be like this:
Finish patch at 2AM GMT = 11AM JT.

If there is a problem, then they have all day to fix it.

If it was:
Finish patch at 5PM JT
The it is already time for them to go home rather than stay and fix it.

This way ensures that the people who need to be around to fix things will be there, rather than telling them they can not go home that night.


Today is good example: They are now fixing it during Japan Prime Time (rather than having them work at 2AM their time to fix problems).

Perhaps in future they can offshore to USA or UK to help fix these things. But now I do not think they plan to do this.

welcome to the standard for every mmo out there almost, they all have their set times according to THEIR work schedules, not the player schedules

What Asiane says, they need to make sure it's still working hours in case of emergency maintenance. Nobody likes working overtime because some people couldnt handle not playing for one evening.

but that would require them to stay at work after hrs to do patch/maint...so unless your going to pay them overtime, i dont see this happening

SE: Hey guys should we put extra staff on to shaft our largest demographic? No? Ok I guess we will keep normal staff to shaft our smaller demographic.

Moral of the story...it's not that big a deal.

I don't think it's that big a deal to ask for it 25% of the time. Let's be honest, the overtime issue is not an issue when your 5 hour down times turn into 12-15 hour downtimes.

5hr maintenance times today ends at their 11pm, now another 5hr would put them at 4pm and they need to stay again to make sure it's stable. Push it further and they need to stay until 1-2am.

They already put in long hours i'm sure. Lets not work them to death. Let them come in on time (or a little early if they want to) start the patch and have their work day to flesh out any issues. then if they get out at a reasonable time they can hit the bar and have a drink to calm the nerves and relax a bit.

As a person who works a job that puts me on call 24/7 messing with your sleep schedual does no one any favors. And thinking you can go home only to have to stay 8 more hours at the last minute is one of the worst feelings there is.

I don't mean any offence but its due to sentiments like this i sometimes think they should just turn off the servers for 24 hours and play test the heck out of it. Put up an announcement. Patching today, see ya tomorrow. get some extra sleep people :)

Those working for SE are working HARD there is no doubt about that... however, why are players making excuses for a company that is not properly doing their job? If the job is not done correctly, or finished by the deadline, you then get to work overtime or outside of your scheduled hours. Welcome to the Corporate World. There is a reason Corporations hire employees on Salary and not Hourly.

They work hard, yes. But if the work is not satisfactory, they are being paid (By the players, mind you) to fix the mistakes.

I agree with what you are saying, I fall victim to this scheduling pattern as well. Realistically, i doubt SE will ever change.

There also a reason programing a multi-featured multi-user application is more difficult then "Would you like fries with that?"

In one you have countless lines of code in which one can conflict with another in unknown ways.

In the other you just need to keep your hands out of boiling oil.

In one case you take your order back and make you another. The other takes a bit longer. In both your waiting longer then you expected.

Umm... I would rather they schedule (correctly) the work so that they can address problems when they are most compotent to address problems. I would rather they did not schedule (incorrectly) work so they have to look for some small little thing that may be wrong at 2AM in the morning then try to fix it (without making more things wrong).

They can save their 'work late/over time' for unavoidable emergencies (like, if this patch still has a problem!). Also, I'm sure a lot of them are already working hard/late to get things done! Poor Yoshi is always getting sick ; ;. And finally, they scheduled things to occur during the week, the least bussiest time, to ensure it is ready for Weekend.

They are doing things right.

This isn't a democracy. The only "power" you have is paying or not. That they choose to listen to us is in itself a charity that is most unexpected and welcome. Except, most people that are vocal enough are braindead.

Regardless, it's their company, they work according to their guidelines and time schedule. You don't order your moving company to come in at 1 am because it's convenient for you, you work around their stipulated hours.

This is getting really close to bashing SE, and that is 100% not the goal here. It's simply asking (nicely) to schedule every third or fourth major update in a different time slot.

A person's job is determined by its clientele's needs. You are a bartender because your clientele wants a drink after work. You don't open a bar 9-5 because that is what is convenient for you as a business owner, you open 5-2 because that is when you have paying customers. SE is doing what they do you keep their consumers. A business listening to their consumer's requests is NEVER a charity. It can make or break a business or a production. This can be adapted into any aspect of business whether you are a small business or corporation. The difference is, a corporation is big enough to withstand a loss in one area, to be gain in another.

I'm not disagreeing with SE's decision to do maintenance outside of JP Primetime, its their local clientele and their standard work hours. Its fully understandable why they do their maintenance when they do. Would it be nice to change it up a bit for respect to international players? Of course. Will it happen? Probably not, because they know international players won't quit paying them due to the scheduling of their maintenance.

the comparison you are using DOES NOT WORK

mmo company runs the game 24/7, and a bar has limited hours per day regardless

downtime only happens usualy at a patch, and if you are really so bent out of shape over a few horus every few months the game is down for these type of things, you yourself need to re-evaluate your priorities and not be so bent on making a company bend to your will to make it so you dont lose those few hours when a patch hits.



also using your same analogy, if they can only work limited hours anyway they go with their biggest populatioin, ie japanese players. so in the end, it is better for business for them to do it at the hours they do it, and thus your example still doesnt work because losing 1 customer to keep several others is just how it works.

Exactly, because that is when they know to do business. But that's totally different. The service we pay for is availavle 24 hours a week, 7 days a week, with the only exception of maintenance. So really yours is a terrible analogy. Try construction workers working on a freeway. When do they work? Fucking primetime, when they do the most damage. THAT'S frustrating as hell and in the real world, but we have to suck it up because that's how shit is.

Yes it is. But it's also being smart. The point of what I said is that this is not a democracy. It's not a form of government. It's a private corporations that can decide to do anything with their products and we have two options: pay for them or not.
