Have You ever Changed Grand Companies? And if so, Why?

Relatively recently, primarily as a result of all the crafting I do, I came to the realization that there are quite a few advantages to being a member of the Ul'dah GC as opposed to the one in Gridania, (which is the one I am presently a member of) or the one in La Noscea. Among these advantages are:

A MB right next to the retainer's summoning icon, the ability to travel to other worlds much more easily (which is quite handy for searching for the cheapest prices to buy something that is expensive), and the ability to easily access the GC HQ.

If I understand everything I have googled about changing GC's, not only do I have to reach the rank of 2nd lieutenant to do so (I am presently the lowest rank required to make special deliveries (Sgt 2nd class), but, once I do, I have to start out all over again, just as I did when I joined the GC I am in now, completing hunting logs, and doing leves and fates to gain the seals necessary to once again reach the rank of Sgt 2nd class.

Which leads me to this post. If the above is correct, why would anyone undertake the time consuming process of joining a different GC than the one they are currently a member of?

Just did yesterday in fact because I'm getting the achievements for each GC. It took all of 45 minutes to get the seals and hunt logs finished to rank back up. People might change because they were dissatisfied with their GC's style.

As for layout of retainer bells and market boards, you can idle in Limsa regardless of your GC and have the best of all worlds.

I do plan on returning home to Ul'dah once I finish getting all the goodies from each GC though.

For the cool seal outfits I switched to Maelstrom. I like the ocean city better too.

I've been considering switching to the other GCs for achievements, but then I remember how lazy I am and decide to just stay in my current one.

Nope.
I started in Limsa. Now it has a special place in my heart so I won't be switching. Also, I don't wanna abandon Merlwyb.
I also have a super nifty pirate glam using grand company pieces that I don't wanna lose access to.

I was in each grand company only to get their achievements of hunting log, GC seals, and a few other achievements. After that, I returned my GC loyalty back to the Immortal Flames since Uldah was my first city state of my first character and Raubahn.

I maxed all of them back in ARR for the minions and stuff. Did swap between the 3 trying to get better luck in Frontlines but that never panned out for any GC. So...Maelstrom is my default.

i moved around GC's so i could get all minions/pvp mounts/max rank. Now that i've done that i went back to the one I started with because i liked it.

I switched between them all to max them out for the minions, but couldn't be bothered trying to do it for the pvp mounts. An attempt was made.... but I ended up switching back to Adder because I like them most. As for the MB right next to the retainer bell, that's all city states lol they're all within a few steps of the MB. There are usually multiple retainer bells too in case the main one is too crowded.

The extra hunting logs are good for exp, and the nice thing is that your squadron goes with you no matter which GC you're in, so you don't have to start from scratch with them.

I just join whichever matches the city-state i started from. I'd rather do it like a scion of the seventh dawn where you don't have restrictions while you work for the betterment of the realm, but that's not allowed. Oh wait, yes it is, but you still have to join one.

One is as good as any other. To answer your guestion: No, i haven't and i won't.

No, because the Immortal Flames is the only option.

Nope. I've been with the Maelstorm ever since I joined the game in 2.0. I'm happy with my Grand Company and serving under Merlwyb.

I changed GC to do turn in achievements.

Are those companies still relevant today? From what i read there is no difference between them except few glamous. I joined the Maelstrom idk why and did not changed since.

The Sultana is significantly cuter than the Elder Seedseer, so that's that, I suppose. :p

I was originally in the Twin Adder, however one of the Bows in the Maelstrom caught my attention for some glamour. At the time my plan was to get the Bow, put it in the dresser, then switch back to the Serpents once I could. Had I known that I would have to stay in the Maelstrom to even apply the bow as Glamour I would have just stayed in the Twin Adder. Still regret that time I spent doing FATEs to unlock the rank where you spam expert delivery. The whole GC thing doesn't interest me too much anyway (Though if they ever added an Ishgard FC, I'm joining them). The main reason I stick with Twin Adder is because Gridania is special to me, the scenery of the shroud is the nicest to me plus I like how intune with nature the Conjurers are.

I switch between flames and Maelstrom for the glamour sets. I like some of the Adder ones as well, but Flames tend to be my primary GC.

Yeah, I switched around for the sake of the PvP achievements. I started as an Adder, secured the horse mount for a hundred victories in Frontlines. Then I switched the Maelstrom and did the same there. After that I switched to Flames and finally snagged the horse from there as well - so I now have all three! It took me years to get that many wins, though doing the daily roulette each day eventually paid off.

Sure. I have on many characters for achievements and glamour.
One of the things I like about this game is how you can mostly do all the things on one character!

Stayed Immortal Flames for so long, then went Maelstrom, then Adder just to get all 3 GC Captain rank.
Went back to Immortals since I need to finish teaching max level pvp with that and if I ever get the horse mount bur other than that, i find Ul Dah comfier to travel, less loading times

Because Limsa = show off land
and Gridania, the BGM suck.

Each capital has its own atmosphere, and the other reason, for others, is the capital closest to my housing.

Unfortunately, there is no GC in Kugane.

Just went back to Gridania so I could wear a certain armour.

Back when Frontlines grouped you with your GC team, I swapped from Flames or Maelstrom so I'd actually have a chance at winning and getting the mounts.
Shortly after they made it free for all by default.

Changed from Immortal Flame to Maelstrom, because Merlwyb has really nice racks.

Yep, because I needed the portraits to decorate my house. The last portrait I got was Kamisama's and then I switched back to Uldah because convenience.
