The other day I decided to start the OG Relic Weapon quests on my new character. So far, it's definitely proven fairly time-consuming, and I still don't even have the Atma version yet.
Part of me would like to complete that, then move onto Heavensward, and so forth until getting caught up to whatever the most recent Relics are. But I also wonder what I'm getting myself into?
I've heard the old Relics would take months MINIMUM to complete, and considering I still get stressed pretty easily trying to Tank group content (ironic, given the DRK is my main, and I've been thinking of leveling PLD), I kind of wonder if I'm making a mistake? Especially since Curtana, for example, I actually think the Zenith (first) version looks the coolest, and from what I gather, you don't unlock the ability to glamour until you finish the ENTIRE chain?
At the very least, how long would it take to get to each part in the chain, where you get the "head-start" on the following expansion's Relic? Like, getting far enough in the ARR Relic chain is supposed to let you skip certain steps when starting the Heavensward Relic and so on, right?

You will leveling faster than you will get relics weapons finished. It still takes at least a few months. If I can risk an advice, if it is mostly for glamour, just do it when you are in mood to do so without really thinking about the time it takes.
This said, you can do one in a few weeks if you are really dedicated. What will slow down you the most is if you don't have enough tomes (though you can solve it with roulettes, Eureka and hunts).
You can use it as glamour as soon as you don't destroy it. About the copies you can buy, I'm not sure how it works. For Eureka, I know the last step needs BA down to be considered as completed. -

I poke at them every now and again. The book stages are very annoying have to go across multiple zones and kill 2 monsters and move on, is more annoying than anything else, slowest part is waiting on the fates to spawn. Past this its all just grinding poetics to buy parts or farm light which goes as fast as you can solo dungeons. It goes faster the higher lvl you are but its just alot of mindless grinding

As yeah, it would also be nice to know the state of Glamouring the "copies" or whatever. I would ASSUME that you can get all of the stages once you finish the chain, but would definitely be great for someone who knows to confirm that.
Also... in terms of the "head-start" for completing the previous Relic, how much of a head-start are we talking? Would it be better for me to try and work on all the Relics simultaneously, if I'm going to be waiting on weekly lockouts/timers? The book part is very tedious and you will not do it in a day or two. More like a week if you're very dedicated and patient.
The fate grinding could take you a day's worth.
First light farming is actually really fast. Takes less than 2 hours.
Nexus -> Zodiac Brave stage is fast if you get the material in advance. Can also be easily done in a day's worth. If you don't have the material in advance, expect to use 2 or 3 days.
Second light farming... not so fast. It takes you 12 syrcus tower runs...
Multiply that by the number of ARR jobs. I doubt a lot of players could do it in less than 2 months. -

Assuming you're just doing one relic wep, like PLD one, It's not going to take months...all old steps have been nerfed and don't require much work. If you're doing every wep for every job, then that's insanity haha.
If you're going to do all relics steps up until current ones, it's def going to take time though, but it depends on how much you play, and how much of it you want to dedicate to relics.
Everything prior to Shadowbringers, is easy. I haven't touched relics in ShB, but i heard the steps are easy.
There's not much of a head-start, you just need to skip 1 step of procuring a weapon, that's like kill a few fates or such.
You can start every expansion relic chain at the same time i guess, but no, you can't do all weapons simultaneously, and that would be insane thing to do anyway :p
There's no weekly lockouts, everything that require tomes, will use poetics.
You can do ARR-HW-etc in sequence if you wish, or start any one in any expansion area, since there aren't any pre-requisits to having any from previous exp. -

And yeah, just planning to do a single job's Relic for each expansion for right now! Since the DRK didn't exist in ARR, I decided to do the PLD because it was my only 50+ job. I could see maybe trying a few others in the distance future, if I wind up leveling up other jobs (kind of thinking about leveling Dragoon, just because their armor is SO cool, haha), but mainly just want to feel like I got the FULL story experience. That, a lot of stuff always seems to require having completed certain old content, so I kind of want to go into Endwalker feeling like "it doesn't matter WHAT the requirements are for new quests, I'll be qualified!". -

The HW one can be done in a couple days, depends on how fast can you farm poetics or how many alternatives currency like BT tokens, GC seals, allied seals you currently have.
The SB one can also be done in several days, also depends on final NM spawn of each zone. If you only do one relic for glam then you don't need to do BA for the Pyseos step.
ARR one might take a week or more, depends on how much grinding you're willing to do each day. -

There are some steps like HW Umbrite which is only poetics and you need a lot, so I'd recommend using any alternative routes on items as much as possible. Some of the old crafted items you can get with GC seals so Greed on all that stuff, lol!

Once you've unlocked your various relic materials by going through it the first time, my suggestion is, if you think you're going to do more relics, be very cognizant of your poetic and GC seals at any time and burn them on future relic materials whenever you're close to cap. That way whenever you get around to the next one you want to work on, you've already got a stockpile of materials waiting for you and can just burn through the easier steps very quickly with those.

Just google relics ffxiv and a wiki will pop up with all the info and material lists you need. That’s what I do every time I start one. If you don’t like the wiki, there’s tons of other guides that should come with it.

Completing all relics at a level appropiate range would take you at the very list a month per weapon with very intensive playtime for the ARR and HW relics.
Your first SB relic will probably take you a month too while you level through Eureka, but afterwards it's a lot faster and might take you a week per weapon.
Current ShB relics are also fast after completing the one time quests, except for the Timeworn Artifact step, which would require you having a static to run through floor 101-200 PoTD a minimum of 27 times assuming you get a drop every 10 floors. So that's a pretty sizeable time sink there too. -

Well it’s been a while, but I’m actually looking to start working on Relics again. I finished the ARR one for Paladin, but I want to try and complete one Relic from each expansion.
What I’d really like to know is, what items can I buy in advance (to prevent being capped on currencies), and is there any sort of time-gating where I might want to be progressing on multiple Relics at the same time?
For that matter, does it become any easier to acquire ADDITIONAL relics from a given expansion, once you’ve completed the first one? Heavensward has like three Relics that I still think are the coolest in the game, but if it’s anything as time-consuming at the ARR relic was, I doubt I get more than one, unless the others become easier? -

I was going to say you cannot pre-buy items, but you can for ARR and HW relics.
Since you have already done the Zodiac Weapon, I will give a list for the Anima Weapon:
Steps 1+2: you cannot pre farm any items (fate grind/hand in Zeta weapon and then run 10 specific dungeons).
Step 3: This is an item collectathon where you need to hand in specific items to buy the 4 mats you need. Items you can get with poetics are the 4 unidentifiable items you can see, of which you need 10 of each one, each one costs 150 poetics each (which, in total, is 6000 poetics), however, you can obtain these items in other ways, for example, via beast tribe tokens or clearing the floors in Gordias. 3 clears of a floor gives 1 unidentifiable item. You would likely need to be on that step in order for the tokens to trade in to drop however.
Step 4: 5 Aether Oils, 350 each, 1750 poetics for this step, only way to get them (the other method has been removed). This should be your first priority on where to spend your poetics.
Step 5: Hard one as there is some slight RNG to how many you will need. This item is Umbrite. You will need somewhere in the region of 60, but I would short change this so that you don't overspend. These are 75 poetics each and are again the only way to get this item. You will need another item, however, you can only start getting them once you are at that step and there are many many ways to get it that do not involve poetics.
Step 6: 50 singing clusters. 40 poetics each, however, once you get to this step, 2 repeatable quests do open up, one daily which gives 1 SC and one weekly which gives 18.
Step 7: Apart from the light grind, you will need Pneumite, which can be bought with poetics, however you might need to be at that step, alternatively, you can get the items from GC seals. You need 15 which costs 100 poetics each or 4000 GC seals each.
Last step: doing certain trials and that's it. That is your Anima weapon.
For SB, all items can only be obtained in Eureka, so you have to get all items in there, which also requires making progress through the story.
For ShB, again, you can do the whole grind in Bozja, however, there are some steps you can do outside of Bozja, though none require poetics, unless you want to make more than 1 (the first weapon is given to you for free).
For EW, it is just a causality grind. Each step so far has been 1500 causality tomes worth of items, of which you can only buy them when you get to that step. With 3 steps out so far, you require 4500 Causality per weapon.
As for whether the become easier, it depends on what you definition of easier is. ShB relics do have some 1 time steps that you only need to do once ever, but you cannot farm them other steps unless you have a weapon on that step already. For Anima/Zodiac weapons, once you have done one, you still have access to all the vendors and items you need, so you can start making stockpiles of items as you start capping currencies.
Eureka is 'easier' in the sense that you don't have to level again.
EW relics are already just easy, so there isn't much you can do to make them easier. -

As someone with all of the relics from HW-current.
I would say it... depends.
It depends on the order you do them in, and how you best make use of your time, really whilst doing those relics.
For example, whilst doing the SB-ShB relics/Bozja you will naturally accrue plenty of poetics which will narrow out most of the grind from the HW relic series. Like, would you really want to do those, just to them find out that Eureka and Bozja hands you the tomestones on a silver platter.
Even when doing the SB relics - If you do every relic for each stage before moving onto the next stage then you do burn a lot of time and resources doing this. e.g., spending time tracking the big NMs cam help reduce how much time you spend in each zone, and whether you find it worthwhile spending a lot of time just waiting for respawns, when you could be doing another zone.
Equally can help actually planning across multiple relics, and doing multiple steps in tandem. This can save a ludicrous amount of time comparative to one step at a time. This is especially the case for the ShB relics, when you can work on several stages at once by doing the same activity, e.g., Delubrum Reginae. Even something as simple as doing both memories of the dying steps at the same time in Bozja can be a great hand in saving time.
I wouldn't even go as far to say do the ARR relics before doing the HW relics and so forth. It's a big time waste, since there are steps in the ShB relic that allows you to effectively skip the same step that trading the Zeta relics for the first step of the HW relic otherwise would, so there's overlap in this regard, depending on how you do the memories of the dying.
Progressing the ARR Zeta relics is also a great way to burn time between Eureka zones, and when there's downtime in Eureka, e.g., no NMs up.
Another example is the Alexandrite step for the Zeta relics. - If you're able to do the Endwalker relics, and especially by hunt trains, and just doing S-Ranks generally then you will find yourself getting a lot of Allied Seals which you can use for this, not to mention Tomestone of Poetics as well.
To keep it short, doing a lot of the relics in tandem will let you save a lot of time, if you're able to plan adequately for it. This does also imply that you are doing all relics from a given expansion and not just 1 relic from each expansion. But even in this case I would say doing some activities in tandem, and planning ahead can make a big difference, especially with poetic farming.
Edit: They can take dreadfully long if you aren't respecting your time, or how efficiently you can do them. But they can be very short and very easy if you are respecting your time. I did the SB relics before doing the HW relics, and doing it that way effectively just allowed me to skip a tonne of poetic grinding. -

I've only just barely started the Heavensward relic chain (at the point it's asking me to trade my Zodiac weapon, or whatever the alternative step is), and I've entered Eureka but I'm low level. In fact, do you need to level as the Job you want the Relic for, or is there a specific job that's easier to level with?
For Bozja, I got just far enough I was given the initial weapon (I think), but that's about it.
I'd originally thought I should try to do them in order (in case there was any dialogue referencing completing past relics), but it sounds like there's really no benefit to that other than the one-time option to sacrifice the ARR Zodiac weapons for the HW starting relic (which I'm not going to do).
Because I'm not familiar with any of the quests besides the ARR ones, I'm figuring I'll just go ahead and start on the current EW relic (which I think someone said you have to do all the Hildebrand quests first?), and then maybe do stuff in Eureka in my downtime? I play entirely solo, which is probably ironic given I think I'm going to try and collect all of the Paladin relics (tanking stresses me out, but I already got the ARR Paladin ones, may as well go all-in). Funny enough though, the EW Dark Knight relic is maybe the coolest weapon is the game, and I actually really dig a lot of the White Mage relics, despite it being the only job I haven't even *started* to level.
I'm hoping that with the Paladin, it'll at least be slow and steady, and gradually work my way towards relics. Any tips on how I could be more efficient on working towards multiple at the same time, though, would definitely be appreciated. Or even tips on getting Poetics; I just spend all of my on some ShB gear for the Blue Mage I just leveled, it didn't even occur to me that they would be used for relics. It's been go long since I've played, I feel like I'm having to re-learn what I'm supposed to be doing!
Oh, also; in the latest Desparius video, it showed a new relic for Blue Mages? Is that difficult to get? Would I have to get that instead of another relic, or does that have some alternate means of acquisition? -

Manderville, you can collect however you want, you just need to hand in the quest with the job you want to upgrade. It is worth noting that all quest based upgrades you have to start the quest on the right job as well (though you shouldn't be able to start the quest for a weapon you don't have).
There really isn't anything you can do to make progress on 2 weapons at the same time, very rarely will quests line up. I can think of maybe 1 quest for the Resistance relic, but you are better off getting the items from Bozja as you need to progress Bozja anyway.Quote:

The only exception is collecting tomes. NMs in Eureka (the FATEs) and the Skirmishes/Critical Engagements in Bozja will reward Poetics, which you can use on your Anima weapon.
Blue Mages do not have relics, at all. You likely saw the Exquisite Gentlemen's Umbrella, which is obtained in the same way the other Exquisite weapons are (apart from the difference in getting the Umbrella in the first place) by getting an upgrade mat from Criterion Savage of the newest Criterion dungeon.Quote:

Hmm, gotcha.
Guess I just need to figure out at this point, since I’m assuming there’s going to be a lot of party-based progression (raids?), whether I want to go for the Paladin, Reaper (since it’s my only dps at lvl 90), or if there’s something else to try and level that might be more forgiving in groups?
Those Exquisite ones are probably pretty hard to get I wager, but man do they look awesome.
