How about some updates that are NOT during American play times? I dont remember an update that wasnt around 2pm-8pm PST. I do understand that you need someone at the servers to impliment the update, but havent you guys heard of night shift?

yeah the maint is brutal for us north americans...it starts right when most ppl are getting off work 5pm to 10pm seriously? why not have it earlier? so it ends around 6 or 7pm? but this 5 to 10pm maint thing needs to be changed...thats the whole freaking day for most ppl that have normal hour jobs so when maint is done ppl are left with what? 1 or 2 hours of play time?

Are you two really that thick? Why should they just conform to American time zones? They are their own country with their own times and work schedules.

Don't you think it's a little stupid to ask them to conform to our time just because we play in it?

Majority of working class America works 9-5. Sometimes 10-4. Sometimes 8-3. But generally speaking, 2-5 is not playtime for working adults.

Now there will always be night shifters, and graveyard shifters, but why expect the world to conform to your odd hours? Gotta please the majority.

Because that would cover all of EU prime time and I would be affected more than 10pm-3am.

US is not the whole world so its not "the whole freaking day for most people" who play, we see threads like this all the every patch since FFXI NA and EU release either "Why does the patch have to be in EU/NA prime time move it because I get affected".

Continuing with the "Are you that thick" questions:

How is having the maintenance two hours later affecting NA players "that dang much"? It's the exact same standard. Not to mention the Japanese and American time zones aren't the only ones affected by shifting maintenance times.

It's like if a game was American run. You would expect them to do maintenance during their hours. Not conform to Japanese standard time or any EU timezone.

Additionally, the patch finishes at 11am JST. When most people are at work. I have several friends who will not be doing the patch download til they get home. Let alone experience the content as soon as it is available....you know....like the NAs.

And you don't even mention the EUs where it will be like 3-5am (depending on location) when the patch will be finished. Again, they would have to wait to download patch and wake up early or stay up all night to play new content.

Suddenly, having to do something else aside from play the game for a couple hours one night doesn't seem too much to ask.

Rolling hour updates: update 1@00GMT 2@04GMT 3@08GMT 4@12GMT 5@16GMT 6@20GMT and bam we all get screwed by an update here and there, but we also all get not screwed here and there.

The game was built with a worldwide audience in mind. It's solutions that fuck everyone equally that work in that audience.

Edit: I'm EST and work 8A~5P, chances are that I'll get to log in for ~30 mins after the maint. period I've yet to cry about it or about any of the others that have happened in a way to ensure I missed out on a solid day of play and got into new content later than others.

You have a fair point but that could also be said for everyone in each time zone correct? i mean we basically get screwed hardcore.

If you play a game that originates in Japan, you've gotta deal with the hours they choose and the location of their servers. It makes the most sense for their workers to update the servers at this time. This also means that by the time the people in JP are up and active, the patch is ready to go for them. This is the way it's always been for all SE's MMO's.

Despite this, I definitely feel your pain. I'm in the EST and every time there is a maintenance, I am more or less prevented from playing for that night... but, I repeat...

Personnaly I don't get off work at 5pm EST (or EDT doesnt matter) because that 10pm for me so MOST people dont get off work then MOST Americans do generalising makes it look like you think America is the whole world MOST people is not MOST Americans.

STO (NA based game) has maintanance during MY prime time so should I rage at them because I can't play because of maintanance, they do no rotations.

Not everyone in the US is EST, either. I live in MST and I'm fine with 3-8 PM maintenance.

its the middle of the night in japan when they update you know

World isnt fair get used to it. This isn't the only MMO that has maint times that screw over a certain portion of the world.

There's actually some significant benefits to being JST for most of these updates. Most notably the first few hours where the bugs/possible crashes and quick fixes will all happen during that few hours when NA players are playing. So by the time JST players get on there's been 6 hours of hotfixes in place so they get a smoothly running game.

Don't yell at me yet, check the past update and hotfix notes, they're almost always within 2~4 hours of a major update for an all worlds emergency maint. that lasts another 2 hrs

Dude your stretching it......if i was going to say all of america i would have said it but i didn't so please don't try and turn this into a "oh hes an american he just thinks of himself" situation and just FYI im canadian. Even if we are in the same time zones or whatever or if you have some sort of agenda against americans or something.

There is a good reason why they put maintenance times during the main American time zones. If they didn't Garuda would only last 5 hours maybe 6 tops. Now since most of the American LS's are asleep Garuda will last close to a day.

This game has more Japanese players, is developed in Japan, and is made by the Japanese, so no, you have to deal with the times scheduled and get over it

I said that because I have seen very few Canadians crying about it, its normally americans, yes I should have said North America but it still amounts to the same thing MOST people =/= MOST North Americans, you just wanna troll everyone that doesn't agree with you, why should my play time be disrupted by North Americans, If I was gonna be like you I would be crying on the STO forums about how my playtime is disrupted by maintanance but I don't why because I couldn't care less, it happens not alot I can do about it, (oh and yes STO does officialy support EU so don't try throwing that there)

What makes North America more important than EU? The times they choose are the ones that inconviniance the fewest members, if they start it earlier they will be affecting the huge Japanese prime time, any later they will be starting in the heat of NA prime time, they start in the heat of EU prime time (start of NA) because there is usually less people on at those times, and no giving me BS like the post quoted, SE has the numbers.

Fair enough on the no empathy though, I don't feel crazy hurt by when the maintenance happens, I would like to see it roll around the clock though to be more "all time zones" friendly, as I said in another post somewhere in page 2 of the thread, I'm not looking for it.

I know everyone hates that the fact that maint. seems to always be against the Euro's and the NA's players times...however I don't think SE will ever cater to our requests...they didn't in XI why on earth would they now...I've made peace with this...so let me make a suggestion of what I do when this occurs...

If this was a game where there were different servers for different time zones (for instance, JP servers, NA servers, EU servers), I could see your point. It would be a nice convenience if they did 'rolling restarts' to implement the patch... but, that's not the case here. Every single server is international, and although it sucks during patch day, we'll soon forget about this when we are enjoying all of the new content.

As someone else mentioned, when the patch is finally over... it is early midday for the Japanese. Many of them are still at work or school when the patch is ready to play. Most of the European players are asleep when the patch is 'ready to go'. In an interesting turn of events, the NA are probably the most likely to play the patch FIRST (barring the hardcore fans that don't work, or will skip work to play... or just won't sleep that night...)

We will only have a few hours to play before we go to bed (if we choose to go to bed) and then the rest of the world is a 'day' ahead of us... but this is the way it works. NA are technically at the 'end' of the day (if you look at the international dateline). It's just where we live.

I see a rational post thank you. Now i am not so mad about the maint being at the time it is. No not because of "we are likely to play it first" but now i know whats going on. I just thought we NA were just being screwed over just to to be screwed over. thank you

No problem. I understand your frustration, but it all makes sense when you really know all of the facts. I'll basically get 2 hours to play before I need to sleep, and then I work all day. I'm not a little kid anymore or I would happily 'skip school' and play. When Diabolos came out in FFXI, I definitely faked sick the next day just to get him... but I can't do that anymore. Way too old. =/

You wish to affect 2 other timezones (admitedly more Japan will be near the end) more than your own, not once did you suggest rotating maintanance times (which I would support) but "moving maintanance 2hrs" that looks to me like a why should NA get affected more than anywhere else, because the start time used it affects less users and affecting less users causes fewer problems, inconvinancing the fewest customers is a prime business tactic, it is used everywhere, you have a problem with that start your own business inconvinancing as many customers as you can, that is why the maint is where it is that is why NA gets affected end of stort case closed. I am in EU I can't log on when maint finishes do you see me crying about that, um... NOPE cos I dont care, I can live without the game, which it seems like you can't.

I guess your too thick to work that out, and on that note i'm going to sleep (because its not prime time for the whole world.)
