Let's put an end to this class/job debate HERE!

Since we know now that classes are here to stay, this is what should happen to them:

The way I see classes being expanded upon is if they make jobs branch out from them. For example:

Gladiator in the future can wield both a sword and a mace/morning stars, which then makes the Gladiator class branch to PLD and DRK.

It's really simple going forth with other classes:

- Archer >> BRD or RNG or Musketeer or other ranged job
- Thaumaturge >> BLM or BLU or whatever other nuking job
- Conjurer >> WHM or SCH or whatever other mage support job
- Lancer >> DRG or SAM
- A new pet class >> SMN or BST or PUP
- A new assassin class that wields daggers etc >> NIN or THF

What would be really crazy is if they make it so that your character gets locked to that one job (EDIT: PER CLASS) that you decide to branch to! I think that will be awesome. You would still be able to go say Katana or Polearm with Lancer class, but specialize and become either a SAM or DRG.

EDIT: For example: For the Lancer class, you'll be specializing in it as a DRG, and for the Archer class, you decide to do RNG. For the Conjurer class you do WHM. Etc!

And that's just me coming up with that stuff in 5 min.

There is no debate. As for your suggestion....no. I don't want to be locked into anything. Stop trying to take my choices away. Why can't ppl handle having options? Lrn2choose

Well see here, all other MMOs have your character locked to ONE class, and if you wanted to play another one, you'd have to start from scratch with a whole new character.

I don't see why that can't be done here.

Precisely because it doesn't need to be like "all other MMOs". At some point the copy/paste has gotta stop and someone has to try to do something different and make it awesome. There's a very good reason why I'm not playing other MMOs lol. If I wanted what "all other MMO's" had, i'd be playing them.

But it isn't like every other MMO because you can be a bunch of other classes and jobs.

Come on man! I'm just saying to be able to specialize. You will be unique and distinguished from other players yet still have the flexibility of switching classes/jobs. Example:

-You have: DRK, WHM, RNG, and SMN.
-Someone else: DRK, WHM, BRD, and BST.

No two people will be alike!

Cmon man, think this through. The job system is basically the exact same thing except you are not locked in. I see no reason to forcibly lock anyone into a job. I just don't. If ppl want to lock themselves into certain jobs, by all means go for it. Why everyone else though? Can you imagine what happens when class elitism does the usual that it does in FFXIV? Except now, you can't switch! "What's that, didn't lock into DRK? lol gtfo"

I like the freedom. Why are ppl so hellbent on taking it away.

definitely no debate, the new darksteel gear seems to be class exclusive

One of my friends had an interesting idea. Musketeer leading to red mage. Could it work? I can see it being something cool. Not to mention SE is already making strange combinations, like ARC -> BRD.

Other MMO's survived because ppl wanted to play them. You play the system you like. If you want to be locked in a class/job, play a game that does so. If you want an auction house, play a game with an auction house. For every game that comes into existence, there will always be someone who enjoys it.

That said, FFXIV has its own system. For some reason, this system threatens everyone to the point where they want it changed and they want it changed now. Truthfully, ppl say they want "new" but really what they want is "old" wrapped up in a pretty new package. They want status quo, they want comfort. When confronted with something that is truly new and unknown, the minds of individuals tend to have a visceral reaction. Brains don't like it when they are forced to accept new ideas, and new ways of thinking/perceiving things.

You need to ask yourself what it is about the armoury system that demands you change it. Newness is obviously causing your mind to have a visceral reaction. You have therefore proposed a change that is more of a downgrade than an upgrade. For some reason the freedom is burdensome for you, it gives you too many choices and *maybe* too many responsibilities. I'm not familiar with your psyche so I can't tell you. What I can tell you is that you are not operating out of logic, but out of psychological comfort.

IDC what they do with classes as long as they are still oriented toward solo/low man activities.

Good point... how are all the WoW clones doing?

I absolutely love the idea. It would bring back the beauty that is "the build" which has worked so well in other games (and i'm not talking about WoW), because right now it seems very gear based.

The only problem is that a lot of people are scared of being locked down to a choice. Some people like to complete every little thing about a game, and some people will be afraid of choosing the job that will eventually be the least wanted job (due to a raid or something). I mean just look at the forum outcry from choosing between Grand Companies. Some people like the idea, some people dont.

I can see how people are getting confused with that; I'll fix it on my main post!

My post was about people being unique and having the flexibility of switching between classes (AND DIFFERENT TYPES OF JOBS: like you can have a support job, a magic damaging job, a melee damaging job, but only one of those per category) because that would be a sweet middle ground.

Let's face it, in FFXI you could level all 15+ classes to whatever max level, yet I'm pretty sure you specialized in some of them.

Indeed. If classes are really here to stay, I'd honestly rather just have 1 class for every 1 job. Which on the surface is a lot less fun, but I don't think there would be enough variety in jobs if they just split off from our current classes.
