Trust system could it be better?

I'm not talking about the npcs, Do you think the developers will ever let us Duo with them?


I have two cases where I would love to do group content with players, but one of them has anxiety due to abuse from players in wow. The other is a 63 year old lady who has a very hard time understanding basic concepts like dots.


Them both I would love to do dungeons with, and go at pace they want. Slowly teaching them, and helping in what ways I can. Without the pressure of keeping with a group of players pace.



I think the Trust system could be used for good, and would like it expanded.

It would be cool if you could simply fill in any gaps with NPCs yeah.
In the mean time, it sounds like you need to find a fourth like-minded person. Or Unsync the lower level dungeons.

They don't group with each other, and It is going to be a struggle just to get that wow player to duo with me.


This is going to sound strange, but something about the npcs they both feel really comfortable with. So that is why I'm hoping they expand the Trust system. What better way to learn and get use to something is by playing with someone else, and both are willing to learn.

I think it could be better, but I think for what it is it does the job well enough. I'm never opposed to improvements though, like being able to queue with friends and such.

Ya, and I'm going to have level a tank if they do add this option. Because I was told that they refuse to give up their grandkids (alphinaud and alisaie) for me. I'm just like Q_Q lol.

Being able to queue with friends would be great. That's really the only improvement, other than perhaps expanding it to msq story mode trials and prior expansion dungeons somehow, that I'd want.

Wouldn't mind seeing more aoe damage from the dps npcs too.

Trust, for me personally, has always felt like a Dungeon Tutorial mechanic more than anything else. Every dungeon you unlock for MSQ they are level appropriate and execute the mechanics well enough to understand what you should be doing. (Mostly, I'm looking at you Alphinaud during the Aenc Thon fight)

Not many people I've talked with thinks this is a bad idea. What would be the downsides of it? I don't see many.

I've wanted the ability to duo or trio and have a Trust fill in as the missing party mates since they were introduced. Also be able to do MSQ solo duties in a party instead as option.

My hubby quit because of attitudes in game and I would love if I could bring him back just for the MSQ with me.

Definitely think this would be a handy feature, another example is when someone leaves- I think it could be nice if they 'tag team' in. Like if you're in the MSQ roulette and some people leave because it's the wrong one, NPCs could take over and then players can still replace those npcs (with perhaps restrictions on like "if currently in a boss fight" lol). Also these NPCs can do a unique concept of instantly replacing someone who was dropped, like due to lag, and then let the player return with their slot saved with the team being able to choose to have the game search for another player.

Huge opportunity to abuse such a tag team system so it'd need to not work for the hardest content, but I see no problem with it in story level content, even if players 'abused it' .. whatever.. it's story content.. if that floats your boat lol.

I think this would be a great idea, because sometimes, you and a friend just want to run something together and chill - or in OP's case help teach - but don't want to have to run with some random player who could be chill or could be a serious pain or anywhere in between. I use trusts to level classes I know I am abyssymal at and don't want to inflict on 3 other people or don't feel comfortable with (tanks and heals - I'll do those with friends but not random people except for msq DF). I don't mind the fact that trusts don't aoe and it takes a little longer to get through the dungeon, since for me as a dps - that time is saved by not having a wait in queue.

Trusts are a great learning tool, letting 2 people go in with 2 trust npcs would make it even more valuable as a learning tool because the more veteran player is ready and willing to help their friend learn.

While I have no problem in principle with expanding the trust system if done right it does have to be balanced so that it doesn't replace the DF too much. I know for me once I hit level 71 on a DPS job I'm done with DF dungeons, even with a slower run it ends up being faster than waiting in a queue and I can afk when I want. My next tank will be also done with trusts so I can level them up, I did PLD for the MSQ so that's 2 out of 4 tanks and all DPS roles I wont be using DF for.

FF14 is a very solo friendly MMO to begin with so I'm not sure the slider should be moved too much further in that direction.

I think the best solution for you and your friends would be to unsync dungeons where possible, I know it's not a perfect solution but expanding the trust system isn't perfect either, it might be for you in your situation, but not necessarily the for the game as a whole.

I'd still love a revamp of all of the companion systems to fold Chocobos, Squadrons and Trusts all into the same system. Allow players to take chocobos into dungeons, allow squadron members out into the open world, allow trusts to be customized like squadron members, etc. And, yeah, allowing a companion to take the place of any party member in a pre-formed group.

Would turning an solo friendly options to be allowed extra players to do it really be that bad? The people who just do trusts and not do DF this would not change much. As that solo option is still around. Trusts already help players not need to group for dungeons. Getting players who want to play with others with that system encourages social elements does it not?

Sure, but you're moving the slider towards a co-op game, rather than an MMO.

Having seen what the trust system has done to FFXI I think is something we should consider. It's almost completely destroyed the MMO aspect of that game because it's too good. In that game you always have a healer, or tank when you need one, you can always get the buffs you want. The only content that's immune from this is the most recent endgame stuff because that needs real players, trusts aren't good enough.

We just need to be careful that's all, it's a careful balancing act.

I’d like to see the trust NPCs use their AOE abilities instead of using their single target only. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t use trusts because they take three times longer than a normal player group.

I love the trust system I think it would be great if they where expanded upon.

The game caters for all, it does not matter if they allow more trust instances for the people who want it, I do not feel it would be game breaking.

The trusts are far from perfect but I like my own company at time and I also duo so if we could add a couple of trusts to that it would be so good!

At the moment the game is doing really well, in FFXI the trusts are great, the game is not what it was but the trusts help keep it alive for some people.

I would love to able to customise them more the squadrons are too clunky and I hated it.

I play often with the best friend i met in game. Almost always going on New content with him. I'm going to do the same next week and for endwalker.
But we can't use trust and have a little bit more immersion when we visit a new dungeon for the 1srt time. Usually we go way faster when we use randoms and don't take our time to not get in the way (i usually tank so i often try to set a good pace).
When i did shadowbringers story (i did it alone) i really enjoyed the trust system and doing it with my friend could have made it even better. It's just fun to have the character alongside you imo.

Trusts usually do mecanics in a predetermined manner, so why replacing 1 trust with 1 player is a problem?

I just wanna be able to vote kick Urianger for messing up mechanics.

The reason why the system currently doesnt allow duoing is because trusts are designed to take a specific amount of time, and actively adjust their dps around yours to try and always make a run take the same time. If you could dual queue into trusts they would be significantly faster due to having access to 2 players aoeing, which cant be scaled in the same way as the way the current system works.

I wouldn't oppose this. But I wouldn't care much either.
My problem with Trusts is just that they feel incredibly weaker, slower, less customizable and competent compared to squadrons. Queuing with someone else wouldn't change that much to me.

They feel like a downgrade. The fact they follow a script to avoid mechanics so you can learn them doesn't make them any better, since now squadrons can ignore majority of the mechanics anyway.

Well i honestly just used this trust stuff once to see whats like and than decide to stay with Player Groups since everything goes faster, smoother and you don't have to start the boss battle all over again if you die (if it just you). The trust npcs need a generell dmg buff and more AoE to be a reasonable alternative to the normal dungeon finder.

I think they just Improve the Adventure Squadrons with what they have learned from the Trust Npcs. Than the AS would be more attractive again and more fun.

I think it does what it's meant to do, act as a initial guide to new dungeon mechanics and frees up Dungeon-queues that are tied to Story progression in the newer content, as well as allow a bit of breathing room for blind runs so people aren't getting story spoilers watching Dungeon video guides.

The AI of course just could use a bit of work.


The one thing I'd really like to see though in the Trust system is a much wider range of NPC selection.

I LOVE the idea of Trusts. That said, they suck, take two to three times as long to kill anything and in general are always the worse option.

They need improvements BADLY and I would welcome them.

Same with mine. I'm a WHM main and he was BLM. I am MUCH more into this game than he was. He did look up rotations and practice them. He just has never been good at the sort of lightning fast twitch type reactions you need to have for mechanics in this game sometimes. Having people being impatient with him in groups because of it didn't help. If we could have a environment where we could learn together without having to put up with snark and nasty attitudes like you can solo in Trusts, then I think he'd still be playing.

I don't think they'd make the Trusts significantly stronger than they're currently. Maybe some lower potency AOE skill, but that's probably it.

If the Trusts become too strong that we'd be able to finish a dungeon about the same time as with average DF, nobody would queue in DF anymore and we'd have people complaining about how FFXIV becoming less like MMO, lack of social aspects, etc etc.

They're supposed to be worse than normal groups, though. They can't make them too powerful or it could affect the Duty Finder.

That is why having players able to duo them lets that MMO element shine. Giving players choice to want to bring in someone else to help or even help use to teach. At some point, Trust being too good is mostly for dps who have long queues already and would be faster just to do trust. So that cat is already out of the bag with how good trust are. I want to expand it so that it could also be used as a social tool as well.
