Dancer Adjustment Suggestion - Step Actions (QoL)

Hey everyone.

I have been playing DNC since it came out in 5.0 and love the job.

Overall I feel like DNC plays well, but I would suggest a small quality of life change to our main weaponskills and their associated steps.

Currently our (4) main single target weaponskills: Cascade, Fountain, Reverse Cascade and Fountainfall change their action ability (hot bar icon) to the corresponding steps Emboite, Entrechat, Jete and Pirouette when either Standard or Technical Step is triggered. As you know, this follows the pattern below:

This works very well as it is easy to assign on hot bars to a 1-4 position (or controllers), and due to the fact that the weaponskills change into steps on the hot bar, this saves a bunch of hot bar space.

However, our main AOE weaponskills: Windmill, Bladeshower, Rising Windmill and Bloodshower do not share this same capability.


I am suggesting that these AOE weaponskills share the same job change capability into Steps on their action bars as the single target weaponskills do as shown below.

In short, in addition to keeping the above as it is now with the single target weaponskills, the AOE weaponskills would now also change as followed when Standard or Technical Step are used.

I do not feel that this would make the job fall out of balance, mainly this would free up more hot bar space (if you use hot bar swapping macros) and make things a bit more seamless. With this, you could keep your 1-4 placements for steps and swap between hot bars more easily.



I would love to see this quality of life change added in a future update if the devs have the time. What do you other DNCer's think?

My apologies if something like this has been posted prior as a suggestion. I did a preliminary search on the forum and did not see this easily.

Why would you need to swap hotbars for Dancer of all jobs? It doesn't even have enough skills to fill the hotbars as it is.

I dig it! Would help a lot with the current setup I have for DNC myself.

I do it streamline things. I agree, DNC does not have enough skill to fill the hot bars, but that can also be a blessing. I have a macro that swaps my 1-4 from single target to AOE which I can do in between GCDs. This saves a lot of space and make press management super easy.

Rather than having 1-8 filled with weaponskills or having having a set on 1-4 and another set on CTRL/ALT 1-4 for example, I can easily use the same four keys and keep easy muscle memory. Not sure how the folks on controller are doing it but I am sure they would rather press the same four buttons with the occasional other button than press eight different buttons.

Its mainly a small change to help keep hot bar space down without changing how abilities overall work. Always a good thing to think about for the future when we usually get more abilities to fill more space.

Some people hot swap their AoE bar into bar 1 for trash. This change would benefit them most, as they would no longer be compelled to keep their single target actions on the bar because of Steps.

I play on controller. I put my single target weaponskills on R2 + Face Buttons and my Dances on L2 + Face buttons so I can see when they come off cooldown. Then I put my AoE weaponskills on R2+L2 +face buttons so they line up with my single target weaponskills.

Going for a 4 month after bump.

Looks like with the PLL #66 notes I got my wish that I started this forum post for WOO!! (And some other shiny unexpected things)

Also love the flourish change across ST/AOE weapon skills.

Yay! I thought about this thread when they announced that. It's a big QoL thing... Of course DNC has a lot of spare keybinds that you wouldn't need a secondary action bar setup, but the thing is more about the practicality of it.

But the Flourished changes weren't clear to me though... This means that if I get a proc of Reverse Cascade (by using Cascade), I'd also have access to a Reverse Windmill without having to cast Windmill? Or the change refers to the action Flourish itself?

To your question of getting a Rising Windmill without using Windmill I think is the correct idea and my understanding.

I agree and to respond to some of the earlier comments, I know DNC is much less button intensive than most other jobs and folks on controller have their own work ins but this was one of those things that broke flow occasionally for my play style and given that some other jobs got the "replace button skill X with Y when stuff happens" I figured that SE could make this part streamline, and it appears they did.

As for the Flourish changes (which again everything is subject to change), my understanding is that:

Cascase > 50% chance to proc Florushing Cascade which allows Reverse Cascade etc.

My guess is that they will either make Cascade a:

"50% chance to Flourshing Cascade & Flourshing Windmill"

or more likely

They change to trigger two types of a effect, lets say a Flourish I & Flourish II.
So Cascade and Windmill can trigger Flourish I which unlocks a single combo use of Reverse Cascade or Rising Windmill.
Fountain and Bladeshower can trigger Flourish II which unlocks a single combo use of Fountainfall and Bloodshower respectevly

They could also depending on how best to optimize the system and UI do other things like change the text / requirements where the lvl2 steps (Reverse / Fountainfall etc) can be trigger be either but I think that makes the text/UI clunkier on tool tips but it is one less buff I guess? I am curious to see how they optimize.

Also curious to see the extension AOE from what we saw at the end of Improvisation. I am hoping its a more powerful triggered heal (akin to a Healing Waltz II-III or something) Improve always felt a little underwhelming to me in its use.

I still wish Saber Dance was off the GCD, but given its potency, I think that's asking too much.

Well see how potency overall changes across all the jobs. I hope Standard and Technical still hit like AOE trucks.

Dancer might have less buttons, but it forces you to watch the skill bar more than other jobs do.
I can play tanks and some DPS jobs (Samurai for example) without UI, and it works just fine. That's unthinkable with the reactive gameplay of the DNC.
That also means you have to multitask more compared to "autopilot jobs", who can focus on mechanics while leaving their rotations to their muscle memory.

Just saying this, because people always talk down on the Dancer, even though it's exactly as demanding as, say, a NIN, but for different reasons.

Hm, I wonder if that can impact the action Flourish. Not gonna lie, I would love not to have to use the AoE combo procs during my single target rotation. It's awkward because it feels like an afterthought, since that doesn't really add a lot of complexity to the playstyle, since you'll be on mid/close range anyway for your steps.

I would really love if Saber Dance was oGCD (with potency adjustment?), but more like to have something else than that fourth feather... to have something to weave during the TS downtime. Sometimes RNG makes the DNC gameplay so slow during that time that I really feel tempted to spend my 3 saved feathers, lol... alas, knowing my luck I would probably botch get to TS without feathers.

My solution to this was to create a small actionbar close to the center of the screen (that I toggle whenever I have to use) and I just add my 1-2-3-4 there, so I can see the procs light up. I would love if we had an UI option to just create that kind of thing without having to use actionbars.

You can also just adjust the placement of your "buffs" bar and resize accordingly. I tried the floating visual bar for a while but it became to hard to loose a hotbar, so I just adjusted the buff icon location instead.
