Disappointed on how he didn't touch the amount of ultimate we will be getting next expansion
"Currently summoner as a job is reaching somewhat of a breaking point when it comes to the
overall play mechanics, so we’ve halted work on Egi glamour for the time being in order to shift
focus. There is a reason behind this, but we can’t share the details with you at the moment.

Very curious. Is this the overhaul I've been waiting for? I hope so.
The only time I touch SMN is to cap it but he’s got me really curious...
At least people have their egi glam answer for the time being. Kinda sounds like they stopped working on them because they won’t be necessary with whatever they’ve cooked up for the rework.
Edit: Also, I haven’t really been paying attention to this aspect but it just dawned on me that they don’t have a dedicated play test team, contracted or otherwise. So the people who create the game are also the ones testing it, which is kind of wild to me.
I also just watched the interview, and concerning the egi glamour wass perhaps the only think i really didnt understand about........ will anyone kindly explain what is egi glamour? (sorry i am new player and i have leveled my summoner to lvl 80 but didnt use it again because its not my play style)
Also concerning the interview, i also hope they make critical enggagement more of a recurring thing, its very fun and full of potential XD
Why not mention how the current glamour system is just busted and extremely limited? I mean for god sake Yoshi P has played WoW so he has to know how vastly superior that system is compared to this outdated stuff. I mean come on guys.
Thanks for the news drop. In response to Egi Glamour...
Respectfully, no. It's time to stop kick the can down the road. Egi design has be a top complaint since Beta and it hasn't gone away. It's long past time to deal with this issue. 6.0 is a perfect time to introduced redesign Garuda, Ifrit, Titan along with adding Shiva, Ramuh, and Leviathan; something players have been asking for since 2015.
Unless we are given incentives to rotate our Egi's the only thing I see happening is having the pets phased out. You only really use Egi's to build Ruin stacks IMO.
Bahamut and Phoenix are more impactful.
I wouldn't mind going through Ifrit/Garuda/Titan Trances when Bahamut and Phoenix are on CD.
can't wait to see what they do.Quote:
Egi Glamour has been a long time request from the players and is frequently a topic you are
questioned about in interviews. It has been awhile since we’ve heard about it, so I was
wondering where the team stands on the development of this feature?
The number of jobs in the game continues to rise, making it more and more difficult to obtainQuote:

weapons from Extreme Trials. Are there any changes planned to make gathering weapons from
Extreme Trials more consistent outside of our current systems? It took me 92 kills before I saw a
Monk weapon drop from Emerald Weapon!
Quote:
Yes, the team and myself do realize that we’re hitting a tipping point with this, and we’ll most
likely start transitioning over to a new system. I will announce the details when the time comes
on a Letter LIVE or other official platforms, so please stay tuned.
I still feel like they missed their chance with summons back in Heavensward.
Painflare could have been Thundershock with a Ramuh animation. Tri-Disaster could have been Acid Rain with a Levi animation. Ruin 3 could have been Ice Lance with a Shiva animation, etc. It would have been the perfect way to add the classic summoning feel while having absolutely no effect on gameplay or balance. They had the perfect opportunity, and missed it.
I've got a hunch that this could be exactly what they are doing, though I'm not sure if they would add more to the roster or just replace them entirely with upgraded versions. Why add egi glamours when what is there can either be improved or replaced by something that looks and plays better? Bahamut and Phoenix were a foot in the door there, in my opinion.
I don't play SMN, though I know a few people who are very fond of the job. I think an egi glamour system should be added - it's been a common request for a while now and the development team created the perform function for BRD so it can't be a matter of not wanting one job to get special treatment over others.
I have a friend that memes if they get rid if pets they will become a full time arcnist main.
It only took two expansions to update a system that promised a lot but ended in nothing.
SMN is kind of a mess right now, while it may function the Egi's are kind of just there, and while many like the Dmi's they're designed them into a corner, like all job SMN will expect new stuff and "3 Minutes into your rotation you'll get Alexander!" Will only get worse with each future expansion, really does need a rework.
Given they're pausing the glams it either means they'll not be needed at all, or Egi's or whatever the becom if the stay will look so different anything they made or were making now would be redundant.
MrHappy isn't a glamour driven player for the most part so it's likely he probably didn't think of the gear glamour systems at all given the limited amount of questions he could ask. I think the only reason he even asked about Egi glamour is because it's kind of been a running joke with him for years now and this was something of his chance to put it to rest.
I've long thought the reason egi glam has sat on the back burner for so long is because they're trying to find the place it makes sense. Say if they add glamour and then suddenly change the system, will the glamour system even make sense anymore? Did the glamour system just chain down some of their options? It could very well get in the way of potential design visions, if that's what they're doing.
It would be epic to see some crazy new system for Summoner that makes it all go "thank god they didn't just rush another system on top of it, this is awesome". Of course it would be nice to see some traction on something lol, as the glamour can itself has been kicked down the road quite a few times :p.
Sounds like they're redesigning summoner in a way that would invalidate the current egi-glamour system.
I could see them changing the egis from permanent pets into spell effects.
It would fall in line with a redesign where instead of learning to summon the egi, the summoner learns the primal's signature attack, and the egi appears as a visual effect during the casting animation to suggest that the attack is originating from them and not the caster.
An example would be casting Rumuh's signature attack from the franchise: Judgement Bolt. The casting graphic would appear as Ramuh manifesting next to you, and then the final spell graphic when you finish the cast would be Ramuh launching the lightning from his staff.
It would be in line with the other depictions of summoners in the franchise where they repeatedly call upon summons to deal devastating attacks over and over again, or it would at least more faithful than permanently summoning red peppers, chicken nuggets, and a chicken.
It could also not be happening, he might have just said it's on hold to try and not spoil anything as if he said "We cancelled it because we were working on the class." it would give away Egi's are gone or moving into a whole new form that would rendered such a system moot. His wording allowed him to answer the question without saying one way or the other until the reveal.
Yes, we can all speculate about his vagueness answer. I kinda lowkey already gave up after naively hoping for more since 2015.
maybe this thing about demi-phoenix combined with demi-bahamut is the push that they're basing a redesign around? cast your dots, use a ruin spell or whatever, bada bing an ifrit spell uses ifrit-egi, then he fades away.
Like maybe treat the egis as lesser summons that are there for short, 1-2 GCD blips, then they just disappear without any pizzazz. Would allow them to rekajigger the entire kit and not completely waste the assets they have already.
Thank God. I didn't want to give them a view.

I wish SE would check here on the forums more than Twitter.Quote:
While working from home, the development team

"Packs"? That's at least 6 years planned!Quote:
Endwalker will see the end of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story arc that has been in motion since
the beginning of FFXIV, and unlike previous expansions, this plot will come to a close in 6.0,
leaving 6.1 through 6.5 to begin building towards the next story.
Quote:
We already do have an initial plan for the overarching flow of 6.1 and beyond, including the
future expansion packs.
FFXIV players hated that.Quote:
The final Ultimate for Shadowbringers was delayed due to difficulties caused by the pandemic
this last year—specifically organizing the eight individuals most qualified to test this content. In
a recent interview, you mentioned perhaps revising the way Ultimate content is developed. I
was wondering if you could elaborate on what changes you’d like to make to the development
of this content in the future?
Quote:
In my mind, it would be ideal to have core members of the development team also be able to
play at the highest of levels. I think one good example of this is Blizzard, a company I’m sure you
know that I am fond of.
So, making content easier is not just an issue with the community not being able to complete it, but the devs not having enough playtesters; playtesters at a competent level?Quote:
work on other content that needs to be developed in tandem, so the higher the difficulty of the
content, the higher the amount of dev resources required to play test and make adjustments
will become.
To alleviate this, generally speaking, there are only two options. One is to divide the
development staff and play test staff and have the play test staff provide detailed feedback to
the development team, which in turn is implemented. Alternatively, we could extend the
development schedule and delineate a specific adjustment period that can be done outside of
when the content is being developed.
This is not limited to only Ultimate raids—I’m sure you know that the breadth of content in
FFXIV has increased greatly when compared to A Realm Reborn. When thinking about
continuing development and service in the long term, I feel we’ve come to a point where we
need a new method to assess resource costs and schedules, instead of relying on our existing
project management methods. If I go into more detail, it will be quite long winded to the point
that I could write a full book, so allow me to stop here. Either way, I am giving it a lot of thought.
Doubling down on housing plots, as is, rather than better, instanced housing then?Quote:
While new housing is planned with Ishgard in 6.1, I was wondering if any considerations have
been made to enhancing apartments as well? For example, spending some gil or completing a
quest to increase the size of the apartment.
Quote:
so if we start making apartments with varying sizes, we will need to reassess the
fundamental systems.
This is not to say that we won’t be doing something like this in the future, but there are other
tasks of higher priority for housing, so we’re working on those first. This is because it’s of higher
priority to provide more available plots of land to the players.
Unfortunate. Very unfortunate. It's the same problem from earlier. Not enough playtesters, or battle designers to create this content. This was probably the best aspect about Bozja.Quote:
In Save the Queen content, the FATE system was reworked into multiple categories, such as
Skirmishes, Critical Engagements, Duels and Sieges. Has there been any consideration to adding
any feature like these to Endwalker’s open world areas and FATEs?
Quote:
Skirmishes repurposed the FATE system mostly as-is, so the content we incorporated there
could potentially be repurposed for new FATEs for open world areas. However, Critical
Engagements and Duels are created in the same way dungeon bosses and raid bosses are. To
put it simply, we are developing each of these fights one by one and put in a lot of resources and
time into it. Even if we do have these systems in place, it would still require sizeable resources
to design new content, making it quite unrealistic to create and scatter them across open world
areas.
Save the Queen content works well because it’s confined to a limited space. I personally love
Critical Engagements, so I am continuously thinking of how to leverage or expand on it one way
or another.
Thanks, Yoshida!Quote:
The Monster Hunter collaboration in Stormblood was quite exciting! With Monster Hunter Rise
being released recently have there been any thoughts on a follow up collaboration with the
franchise?
Quote:
Currently, we are focusing on the development of 6.0, so there are no current movements on
any upcoming crossovers. (laughs)
The problem isn't exp gain though. It's the sheer amount of quests required to reach endgame, not level 80.Quote:
In Patch 5.3, A Realm Reborn was revamped to shorten the time it takes for new players to
complete it. The game does still continue to grow, so are there any plans for how to tackle other
expansion story quests in a similar fashion?
Quote:
No, we don’t have this sort of plan currently, although we are planning to make adjustments to
things like Aether Currents (among other things). If you’re just trying to play through the main
scenario, everything from Heavensward and onward is designed to be fairly user friendly and
not overly difficult. Additionally, we will continue to make adjustments to the EXP received from
quests and the overall pace of leveling at expansion launch timing, similar to what we have done
with past expansion releases.
What I'm HOPING this means is they're going to completely rework summoner to give actual summons or at least a number of different egis to where glam would be irrelevant. Everything else aside, with a level cap and new skills, I'm sure no one was excited for a weave mess of Egi->Bah->Phoenix->some new super summon... on top of DoTs and what have you.
I hope this instead means we'll simply weave through either different more regular egis (ifrit, lev, etc) and maybe one super egi... or we'll have more choices on egis depending on what spells we cast.
Every time they raise the cap, every class has to deal with the bloat of abilities and spells that goes with it and get reworked. That's to be expected. But summoner has always felt like the one class that gets the worst of it and they never know how to completely solve it, while every increase just makes it worse. Hopefully now they've finally given up and are reworking it from the ground up.
First time I've seen anyone have such outspoken distain enough to go out of their way to not provide a view. Worst crit I can give is his stuffs a little... generic... sometimes... maybe? But the dude is always positive and kind overall. Might as well hate Mr. Rogers while you're at it.
Neither do I. No idea if he is generally disliked, though, from what I gather, the high-end community might dislike him. I was just making a joke at the time. Anyway, I still prefer to have a written transcript. It makes it easier for discussion in this format: the forums. Having a written copy is somewhere someone can more easily access this material.
Same reason I really dislike Work to game. Brian or what the guy name is way to naive and positive and can never be negative about the game flaw. White Knight at it finest.
I don't like MrH cause of his action in the past and used (i dunno how they are nowadays since I haven't followed him since HW days) drop incorrect guides and raid guides. There is much better resources out there than him.
MogTalk/Frosty also interviewed YoshiP and also tackled some questions about higher difficulty content since that seems to be of interest here.

In short, more 48 man difficult content is coming, and may be even more group mechanic focused. Small group difficult content like standard dungeons is unlikely due to mechanic and role constraints, but small scale challenge like high floor Deep Dungeons is likely.
On a related note, each DPS type is usually intended to serve a specific role in a fight beyond just giving that % bonus for a full team variety but they don't want to go into major details on it to not force certain job choices and to allow for flexibility.
