Unable to obtain character data

Hi there! I'm currently confused as of why my main character on Lamia is "unable to be retrieved" when my alt characters are completely fine and that I can still log into them. Is it because I transferred data centers a few days ago prior to the patch update? I would like to know as soon as possible since I have way too many expensive items on them and it would be heart crushing if I just lost 6 months of things I been saving up on (plus many cosmetic outfits from the ff14 store!)

This just happened to me! Give it a few minutes.

Exit the game and wait a few and then come back in.

yea i've been trying to get this going for almost 2-3 hrs and i'm having the same issure with unable to obtain character info

Update: I've closed the game out for a little over an hour now and when I logged back in to see if my character pops up, it still shows that they are still unable to be obtained. I might sound a little impatient but I really would hate to see my character that I spent so much time and money on to disappear because of a minor update. I had my character back'd-up a few months ago, but I never really did another back-up save for them after the first time.

Any update regarding this, support team? Can't believe people are still unable to login after so many hours...

The "Unable to obtain character data" condition can usually just be ignored.
Most of the time you can login just fine with that character, even though you can't see any information about them on the login screen.

If you are actually unable to login, then that is a more serious problem - and not one I know how to solve.

So its been about another 2 hours since my last post and I'm still unable to login onto my main character. Whenever logging in on them, I'll sometimes get "player in queue: 3" which makes me think "oh, they must've fixed the problem" only for it to say that the "world data couldn't be obtained" before putting me back to the title screen. I might be overacting about it but I would like to know if there is anything I can do or at least hear an official response from an SE employee that they'll look into the issue.

So i'm in the same situation where it looks like i'm loading in but it can't obtain my data so i'm kicked back at title screen. Been at it for about 6hr or so. I'm kinda concerned about losing this character at this point. I've actually tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't help.

Sadly I can see I'm far from being the only one. It's been 2h and a half now that I'm trying to log in but nothing happens. I have the same problem, "unable to retrieve character data", I have "??" everywhere and when I try to log in I have the queue up but I just get an error message few second after. Obviously extremely frustrated that I can't play and a bit worried that I see no official message about such problem. At this point I guess the only true solution is to wait...

Having the same issue here except for the fact that I can log on to any of my other characters on the account. Every single fix that the GMs have sent me or that I've found on old threads have not worked and my character is still down after hours of waiting. I'm hoping there's an official statement on this soon as with no phone lines open and live chat currently offline for EU users, it could be days before this gets resolved and we can play again.

At the moment I'm sitting on my alt hoping I get another GM reply, if I do I'll update this

Thanks for the insight! Forgot to say that I also have 3 alts and I can log in with any of them without problems, I even have one of my alt in the exact same server (Moogle) than my main which I can't log in with. I hope we'll have an answer soon or a solution...

Still no updates and character still lost to the void, my assumption is that something happened during maintenance and our characters are essentially at awkward coordinates the game doesn't recognise as legitimate and so will need manual movement from the GMs, which requires them to get permission to do so after confirmation (refer to the Susano issue in the past that took 2 weeks to resolve). Anyone else here had any luck yet?

I have had no luck at all with this today. Been at it all day just trying to log in and nothing has really changed. Last I was logged in was the fc house.

As far as I'm aware of, my main is still lost and is probably feeling cold and alone right now T.T The last location I remember my main being at was somewhere in Limsa. For now though, I plan just leveling my alt till someone from SE responds back later tonight or hopefully sometime tomorrow morning.

My main has been experiencing this bug as well. I had just the other day resubbed and I hope it doesn't take too long to fix.

Yea this is pretty meh. I've thrown in a ticket early in the day and still nothing. I don't think i've ever had such an issue x.x

I've been having this happen to my guy since I woke up, keep getting world data couldn't be obtained every single attempted log in. I am not the happy ;-;

Please, where are the developers ? where are the technical support ? we need help and answers, I've been dealing with this issue all day and I had to create an alt character on other world to play something, but I want my character back, I spent plenty of time on my main character, so please fix this asap!!!

Been trying to get in all night anyone know what the issue is and if the devs are aware of it? It's really frustrating to get home from a long day of work after the previous days of this game being down for maintenance and still not being able to play.

Been having the same thing since the Maintenance ended. Been at it for hours and still no luck :( , hopefully it can get resolved soon. I miss doing twister prog memes already x.x

I don't know what else to say but that I am having the SAME exact issues as everyone else. I can play my alts on the same and different worlds, but not my main character. This needs to get fixed pretty soon otherwise this is going to drive me crazy xD. I just came back to this game like 3 days ago.

Yeah I just made a support ticket I think I was in Ul'dah when I logged out so no where odd. This is ridiculous my coworker I play with got into his world just fine too, come-on square get your game together.

Just wanna update its about 2am and still cant log in to the game. I still haven't gotten anything about the ticket I put in. Seems like since only a handful of us are affected by this it probably won't be a priority to fix. Everyone I know was able to get on just fine I don't understand what happened x.x

I'm sincerely worried (and sorry) to see more and more people coming with the same problem... It has been 16 hours (probably more) since I discovered my main like this and tried to log in. I'm pretty sure I disconnected in the middle of Eulmore, the last thing I did was running the last NieR Raid or some expert roulette. No idea what could have caused this to happen.

Square you say I have been subscribed for 1500 days lets divide that by 30 we get 50 weeks. So by your own metrics I have paid approximately 12.99 X 50 without accounting for retainers (2 extra retainers) so I have given u around 650 dollars at minimum only for you to completely screw over my character, wow great job you've screwed over a long time player. It not even this issues its the fact that me and others in the form have had no answer for this bullshit for over a day. Thanks for hearing our grievances... JK you have answered and done nothing, you guys are somehow worse than blizzard and that is really saying something.

your character isn't gone, trust me. the server's are just having a hard time communicating with your character files. It's happened to way more people than are in this thread complaining - it takes a while to get the information back. Anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. Chillax, dude. It happened to me yesterday, in fact to ALL my characters. I was absolutely terrified but waited a few minutes and it was back.

Just wanna say i was able to log in to my character now. I hope everyone else is able to soon enough

Same here! Got an email earlier saying they'd seen my support ticket and were working on it, glad it's resolved and hope everyone here has been fixed.
