Anyone Scared of Heights in game?

Hi,

I know i am a minority in this. Since i have a fear of heights which is very real to me. And the game design is so well made that, my fear transfer to my game play. I have tried alot of things to beat it. But to no bail so i just avoid the platform content.

Which mind you it used to be just maybe one dungeon or a trial. To now where its everywhere.

I get it is a game mechanic, but it is not thrilling to me. My heart skips a beat every time i get punted off a platform. If i didn't have friends in game and i wouldn't do the extremes with them. I could kiss those mounts goodbye. I hate not being able to pull my weight. But what can you do.

Its like the game keeps telling me, when will you learn to listen to the pain and just give up. Which i hate to do. But eventually, i just have to understand the game isnt for me, its for the 12 yrs old who love platformers... or the young adult i guess, i am like i said at the beginning a minority.

I guess this post is to vent since i dont expect anything to change.

24man where the whole raid is a platform... (Act like i am dpsing and follow someone while i stare at the ground and hope the game ai doesnt pick me.)

8 man trial another platform on the sky (Saw a video on normal, there is no way i am doing that, when my health is at stake.)

But Kumi, Amaurot last boss is on a platform and you beat it. (Yes i did but at the time i didnt know you could fall off) So first time i tanked it and the Trust did the work. I guess i got lucky.

But Kumi, you have alts and each of those alts is in 5.5 right now. So you couldnt have gotten lucky all the time. Well i did cuz i just repeatedly tanked it and let the trust do their stuff. If i do it on the a dps or a healer i freeze.

On trials and raids i cant do that.

This frustrating cuz i love the game. But alas what can you do.

I get vertigo when the game makes it clear you're up high and you can tell it. But it's just something that makes me cringe if I fall down or have to jump down. Like the one jump in Hullbreaker (Hard I think) or The Aery.

Glad someone feels something about heights.

I cringe each time I got to jump and feel my stomach go queezie. I wish whe had less of this pointless jumping off ledges.

I'm not afraid of heights and I don't remember being bothered by it in other games, but something about actually falling in this game makes my stomach turn. Something about the motion of it just triggers me to feel sick in those moments, though I'm not bothered by being in the high place before that.

(There seems to be a common thread to these replies and I'm glad I'm not the only one.)

I'm not scared of heights, but there was one area in the game that gave me a scare: the underwater section in the Lochs. I have no idea why, the Ruby Sea didn't bother me, even going to the bottom didn't. I guess it's because how claustrophobic it feels.

since its so dark it kinda feels like the ocean floor and it is kinda scary at the beginning i had to bring my choco out too.

I am physically limited with games like Warframe, no matter how much ginger or travel meds I take - I will green out.

We all have limitations. Just height is yours. It's fine. Own it, and do the parts you can do.

Not heights, but... snakes.

I'm terrified of snakes to that point that watching a documentary that involves snakes is really quite unsettling for me (with a high potential of resulting in nightmares). Same goes for at least some of the enemies in the game - I'm fine with the more "fantasy looking" snakes, like the ones in Coil, but there are the ones in Bozja (Taipan, maybe? Didnt get a good look at the name, I'm avoiding them as much as I can) that kinda creep me out - as I said up to the point that I'll go out of my way to not have to see them. Makes me feel quite silly once in a while, but I guess everyone has "their thing", right?

My gf is like that she tends to avoid like the plague. She hates snakes.

It doesn't bother me in this game, but gimme a game like Fenyx Rising and some of those vaults that you need to glide through or even the platform jumping really messes me up. I think its the way the cameras pan and the video flows. Here its very almost stationary, even when you jump the camera stays in place, but in games like Fenyx Rising the camera moves wildly between trying to always keep you in the center of the screen and any slight movement. FPS used to bother me but I just widened the fov and played a little at a time until my brain adapted. Now I can spend hours in a fps with no issues. I still push the fov out though. Maybe give the fov an adjustment and pan out as far as you can. Generally the more you can see, the less issues you should have.

I say this with the kindest and most gentle tone possible, but may I ask friend - Do you feel that it is sensible, or healthy to partake in an activity where you are clearly worried or fearful of getting an anxiety attack?

I think you need to stop playing this game. For your health and mental well being.

I have a moderate fear of heights. It's part of what makes the game exciting for me, though if it were real I'd clinch up real hard. My eyes get a little wide when my character falls off something really high, and sometimes I go make him do that, just for kicks. The sounds the game make when you fall is pretty heavy too, the wind rushing around you. It's pretty immersive for 3rd person perspective.

See i thought about quitting a while back but i like helping people. Because of that i managed to make friends. And if i was alone i probably would have done so a while back.

I also hate not pulling my weight, but this is something i had to let go instead since my health was at stake.

I wish it wasnt the case. I really do.

The very immersive part is what makes me have anxiety attacks. Reminds me that i had to rely on a full blue mage group to get titan ex to put out the spell. Because i tried on my own and it just wouldn't work on normal.

Thank god for folks in this game. They understand i am not faking it.

WoW until MoP didnt have punting off platforms in boss fights either. Dont know if it has changed. Thats when i sort of quit though i did a little bit cuz of WoD too, but it failed to grasp me.

Anyhow I know i was fighting near cliff near Firelands and i got punted off a cliff and i thought to myself well since i am a druid i just pop flight form as soon i fall off enemy range. NOPE i hit the ground first and died but i had no anxiety attack cuz there is no woosh or wind or anything... Here like you said there is.

I tried that in Cloud Deck yesterday, (yes i know i said i wasn't going to do it but for sake of story i was willing to suffer the anxiety attack) But yeah that didn't work.

I had to zoom in twice and one zoom out to make it thru it, and oh yeah, i brought a friend on a smn and warned him i wouldn't be much help but she rezzed me thru the whole thing. It took several tries but we got it. I think my fake dpsing wasnt noticed cuz we were all new to it.

I've got it the opposite, really. In real life I get vertigo in buildings with three or more floors and can't be near windows without the creeping feeling that I'm going to fall out of them. But in video games, I have no such issues and actually enjoy being high up. Especially if the game has a "realistic" flying/gliding system.

Now, bugs, on the other hand.... hate 'em in real life, and I hate 'em in video games. Even the cartoonish lady bugs outside Limsa Lominsa bug me, lol.

I did meet someone who got car sick riding the automate chocos between towns...

My gf is afraid of snakes in game to the point that she wont ride snake like mounts.

as for high building in real life, inside them i have no problem, now on the roof of them yeah no i cant be near the edge i get vertigo.

I just hate the knockback stuff on Diamond ex.... its not hard but that push... ugh... @_@

i frankly not trying that until next expansion. cuz of that knockback. So i can unsink it with friends

There's some places where if I jump off a high place like a cliff while running around a zone my stomach does a weird thing, but so far the only time I have issues was one of the Eden fights. I can't remember which one, maybe E4? Where it's in space and the platform becomes translucent. I have a thing where I can't even look straight up on clear nights without feeling like I'm going to fall or just general unease, so having space below me makes my brain feel weird. Meanwhile the final boss arena of the Tower at Paradigm's Breach doesn't do it to me.

lucky i say ... i wish i was you :3. its annoying or frustrating that i want something but having to rely on people to do it.

I usually feel a slight discomfort whenever I jump from super high, like the Kugane tower, but once I land it's fine.

I feel you thought ; I have immense vertigo and I can't control it. Even in game it's bothering me lol

I don't. I always have to have someone else change light bulbs for me because I can't stand on a stepladder and look up without holding on to it.

Thats how i feel all the time on platforms.

Sometimes i wished you had an option to not fall off but that asking too much i guess.

Yeah in that aspect i am the same to some extent. I have to hold to the ladder to change bulbs. Its difficult to do.
