They said at 4K it will be around 40 fps. In the lower resolutions it will be 60 fps.
TBH, Even the other two modes can't keep an even 60 like the BC version of PS4 pro did on the PS5. Frame pacing issues are not good when large objects are in view. Again, the BC ps4 pro version on ps5 was rock solid. Very disappointed in this upgrade but they can always tweak it I guess but what I'm seeing right now is not great or rather not as good as it could be.
That's my exact issue. The PS5 is more than capable of running this old ass game in 4k 60FPS. I mean, I get that the PS5 version is giving us native 4k instead of just an up-scaled checker-boarding 4k, but the difference does not warrant such a significant drop in FPS. Specially when the PS5 can run games at 4k 120FPS.
This. I changed the settings to 4k on the PS5 to see the difference. Yes, the UI is a lot clearer and cleaner. I love the look of it. However, the drop in FPS from WQHD to 4k is drastically noticeable. On WQHD you can see just how smooth the game runs. In 4k, character and camera movement are stuttery. In-game cutscenes are affected by the FPS drop (tested on Cloud Deck intro cutscene) as well as the combat. Frankly, the drop in FPS has been giving me a headache whenever I run things in 4k settings to see how sections of the game perform. They really need to up the FPS for 4k settings. The PS5 is more than capable of handling it.
Agreed. I love all the little things like the haptic feedback with this version, but they really need to unlock the FPS to 60 in 4K. Much more graphically demanding games such as Destiny can do 4K 60 (and 120 for PvP if your display supports it). There really isn't any reason for this game not to be 60, especially since we can turn down the effects as well.
I gave 4k a go. It looks nice, but I ended up going with the middle setting, WQHD. It's a nice balance, as the description suggests. The fps hit was annoying me. It wasn't at 30, but definitely around 40-45 depending on the area. I know the PS5 can do slightly better than that, but in all fairness this IS a beta.
This is a beta after all. However I do agree that this should run at min locked 60 fps at 1440, and locked 60 at 4k with dynamic scaling. This game currently has some pretty rough textures and seeing it in 1440p (my current settings) is a bit off putting. I'd much rather have locked frame rates but at the moment I'm experiencing frame stuttering when in the open world and its trying to render large amount of objects.
Example is in Kholusia near the the Neir raids. Pan your camera down then up towards the dwarf village and you'll see with I mean. Though I suspect that this has something to do with the fan noise that Sony probably wants to keep at a certain level. If the PS4 Pro can sound like a jet engine then the PS5 can too if you really push it. Bottom line though 60 fps or nothing at this point. A frame counter for PS5 would be nice too. Hopefully someone can do a comparison on a monitor.
Another thing is I hate how the "Enlarge UI option is set to 150%" because it makes the boss dialogue in battle far too big and distracting on a 4k tv. I have my UI set to 100% and would much prefer the Enlarge option to bump it up to 120% because right now the system menu is too small but the battle dialogue UI is just right.
I was hoping for better performance on the PS5. I mean even on 1440p it can't maintain a rock solid 60fps.
On my PC with a 9900K@4.8ghz, 2080ti, 16gb tridentz 3200mhz ram, and a 1TB samsung 970 Pro i can maintain a perfect 60fps with max settings including the brand new "4K" icons and hud.
Now im perfectly aware that a PS5 can't really match these specs in terms of raw CPU and GPU IPC but this game's graphics are not that good or even good at all depending on who you ask. Some textures are straight out of the ps2 era.
1440p with a locked 60fps should have been doable on ps5. I hope the full release is more optimized.
How do you guys transfer user settings over to PS5 version?
Digital Foundry proved that the PS5 is slightly more powerful than a RTX2080 running at max settings; It's plenty powerful. As someone mentioned earlier, it runs way more graphically demanding games like Destiny and Monster Hunter World at 4k/60FPS so there's really no reason for this game to be any different. I'm sure it's due to this just being a beta but it's still annoying that it's essentially a downgrade from the PS4 Pro version lol.
I currently run on PS5 with a Visio P65 Quantum TV ,sony str-dh790 amplifier 4K Dolby Vision/HDR10 pass through (ps5 doesn't support Dolby Vision yet). I can't run in 120hz even though my TV supports it since I am limited to HDCP on my amplifier which doesn't support 120hz pass through. Hoped they would patch it through firmware updates, but doesn't seem likely.
I fiddled with my PS5, my TV, amplifier, and the in game settings to see why FFXIV runs so poorly in 4K native with FFXIV PS5 compared to God of War 4K checkerboard.
Now albeit this is not a direct comparison considering God of War isn't native 4K. But when I compare the higher texture format, framerate, frame drops, tearing, general PS5 ability. There IS no comparison in the two games. Not even Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us 2, PS4 FFXIV on PS5 (4k checkerboard 60fps) run this poorly (especially ghosts of tsushima, amazing) . None of these games could hold a candle to the poor presentation of 4K native on FFXIV PS5 beta.
I also went a step further and looked at my XBOX One X with known native 4k titles. Sadly hardly any of them run at 60 fps and are capped at 30fps but they run perfectly at the insane 4K native resolution with the same setup. If anyone knows of a 4K native 60fps on XBOX one X I would like to know. Still Assassin's Creed Origins/Odyssey look great in native 4K being older titles respectively.
This appears to me to be a highly unoptimized beta in it's current state and I feel it will eventually be ironed out when AMD's version of DLSS get's patched into the PS5. If.....
I'll run the game in WQHD until it's out of beta I suppose.
Tested a little bit with my PC. Yes, a RTX 3070 is more powerful than a PS5. I know.
Settings for Test:
Resolution: 3840x2160 at 60 Hz
Graphics profile in XIV: Desktop (High)
Content: Delubrum Reginae (normal)
Result:
The average GPU utilisation was at 60%
The highest peak I've seen was at 68%
With this amount of headroom on a RTX 3070 I'm sure a PS5 can do the same. With less amount of headroom of course, but still with some headroom left.
