Pepperage farm moments

Sometimes while on discord or psn messed up party i have those moments. The moments like they ruined battlefield when they removed the ability to ride mavs. My last one was do you remember when paladins could rez, pepperage farms remembers, this being in palace of the dead and being the only one who survived a bomb with the see traps floor buff up. No, i totally didn't do it.

I know i can't be the only with these. Y'all have any funny stories or moments when this happens, share below.

i remember the ole days when healers had to cast protect and stoneskin, there was always that one tank that refused to pull anything unless he had stoneskin on. so glad that skill got removed

i remember when in order to get a cross class ability you had to actually level that class, everyone that wanted swiftcast had to level a blackmage

i remember when cleric stance was a thing and most wipes were caused by healers that forgot to turn cleric stance off before healing because of the group mentality that healers have to dps

Remember when DRK was the most complex tank, when you had to manage your aggro, your DPS, your MP, and your cooldowns at the same time?
Remember when defensive cooldowns were practically mandatory for trash pulls because the mobs hit THAT hard?
Remember when defensive cooldowns had lower cooldown timers?
Remember when healer was high risk/reward when you were playing for DPS due to Cleric Stance?

I remember when the game was dying because x.

Oh wait, people still say that.

I remember when you needed different types of glamour prisms for different types of items. And you didn't unlock glamouring until level 50.
I also remember when AST cards actually did interesting things instead of all just damage buffs. lol
I can't say a whole lot since I've only started playing since just after SB came out. lol But those are a couple that I remember.

I remember when an unlucky party comp made Aurum Vale more or less unwinnable...

And watching SCH/SMN pets die to mechanics because there was no way to cleanse the stacks off of them. >.>

I remember when cross-class skills gave a small degree of customization to builds.
I remember when dungeons weren't designed specifically with 'daily roulette' in mind.
I remember when the concept of "class" and "job" were distinct and despite being poorly executed had a lot of potential to make "builds" a real thing.
I remember when the challenge of the combat wasn't "just the boss mechanics". Also see signature.
I remember when XIV still remembered it was a Final Fantasy game rather than a light-lifesim.

I remember setting skill points on your own.

Also how much of a pain in the behind that was with Summoner and Scholar because they only got the one base set of Arcanist points.

I remember the time before mounts and sprint when we had to slow run around the entire world because we didn't have enough anima to teleport.
I remember the times when fatigue was an actual game system.
I remember running through long corridors to get out of a city or go from east thanalan to central thanalan so one map could unload and a new one could load so we could have a "seamless" overworld experience
I remember doing skill chains with other people in my party
I remember having to carry around 10 stacks of arrows so I didn't run out during a dungeon
I remember needing searching through a sea of retainer vendors for tufts of cotton to make a patch to repair my cotton robe and then search through more to get some wood chips to make the item I needed to repair my bow, then going through even more for leather scrap to make leather strips so i could repair my shoes
I remember breaking ifrit's horns to change the fight somehow, but I can't remember how it changed

Version 1 had some interesting ways to overcomplicate things....

Did you have to remind me of 1.0's Black Shroud map? Also, I still miss the bridge leading out of Limsa Lominsa, I just liked hanging out there enjoying the scenery. I have a picture of the server shutdown from there, since I was too weak to survive the trip to Carteneau to attempt to help.

Remember earning guild points you could spend at your guild for new abilities and traits?
Remember when farming leves was how you accessed endgame content?

Remember when part of the reason that XIV was so taxing was because water was rendered under the ground, even if you couldnt see it?

I remember when I started playing back in the later patches of HW (maybe 3.3), Idylshire took FOREVER to load in. Like it took sometimes a minute to get in there.

I remember when we had job diversity.
When summons had their own HP bar.
Or Eos could actually heal. lol

Still does, like they hide 17 dozen water assets underground.

Remember when playing too much in FFXIV 1.0 meant fatigue system kicking into place where you'd start to accrue -10% to -100% experience points until the next day.

I remember trying to take good screenshots before /facecamera.
I remember progressing to my mid-level 40s having forgotten to learn WHM spells from the 30+ trainer.
I remember the first time I saw a Garlean Empire cutscene, the one where Nero kills the spy, thinking it actually took place on another planet, because it felt very sci-fi, and the clear night/stars made it seem otherworldly.
I remember when crafting was more challenging.

I remember bow mage.

I remember having to level a second, often seemingly random, class in order to get my job stone.

I remember getting left behind, totally lost, and insulted in my first Praetorium run because I dared to watch the cut scenes.

I remember having to keep stacks of five or six different types of glamour prism for different types of gear.

I remember having to either carry all of my glamour gear or visit a retainer bell every time I wanted to change anything or upgrade my gear.

If it makes you feel any better, that happened to me, and I got there 4 months after ARR went live.

I remember the old overpower animation.
I remember leveling whm to 34 for stoneskin.
I remember Flash.
I remember Unchained.
I remember Fracture and Mercy Stroke.

I remember and miss old cleric stance, and I remember when aggro was a group effort and I miss all the highs and lows that came with that.

I remember HW relic step 3 unnerfed.......it trumps every step of ShB relics in terms of a sheer grind, I basically had to almost no life for a month to get it, and before anyone who joined post nerf calling bs, let me lay down HOW awful this could be to grind.

1. You needed 20 of each item, not 10

2. The other items had to be HQ, and I also believe you needed 6-9. The only way to get those was either market board for an extreme sum or craft it or someone else craft. This was also back in the day where crafting was far more tedious then now and way less crafters to actually do it.

3. Now I want someone to double-check this, but I recall the 20 items of each you needed 1500 poetics per item, and the only other two ways to get them[outside of maps for the ore i think], was beast tribe tokens and gordias precision item turn in. Gordias needed 10 precision for ONE item, and beast tribe was 1-2 days of tokens per ONE.

4. Thats 80 items you need before the money sink in the HQ, and most days you would only nab 1-4 with all roulettes and beast tribe dailies.


The light step was nearly as bad pre nerd but you at least didn't feel like you wasted time NOT doing dailies, and you did it on your own time.

They took out my favorite tree by the front stalls in Revenant's Toll! Can't remember the last time I heard someone call that place More Donuts.


And Warriors thinking (including me at the time) they were awesome by popping their HP above 10,000 to ignore some of the Labyrinth 9,999 damage mechanics.


And the times when that 1017 error was a real problem for many!

lol Yeah, I still remember my first Castrum and Praetorium runs. I said at the beginning of Castrum something along the lines of, "First time here, anything I should know?" and the reply I got was literally "skip cutscenes and run fast".

Back when we could actually skip cutscenes, of course. lol

I remember when the Scion's headquarters were in the Waking Sands when ARR first launched in 2013... Teleport to Horizon and run my ass to the other side of the map every time... so many times...

Cross skills lol, You don’t have swift? Why you no level BLM. Needing to level other classes along with your main class to be able to advance to the job you wanted.

Cleric stance was fun. We more or less do the same thing now minus the stance swap. At the very least it gave us an extra aspect to manage.

I see no one told you to warp to Limsa and ferry it over so it drops you right in front of the waking sands.

#1 thing I told all new players back before those fancy free teleports they give out now.

I remember leveling SCH as my first healer, and people in my party demanding that I "cleanse" their poison. "USE ESUNA YOU NOOB!" My response, "SCH doesn't have Esuna, and I don't get Leeches until level 40."

I remember healing the Giant Tunnel Worm in Cutter's Cry without Leeches. That sand dot that it does, along with everything else, makes it have a far higher damage output than the Chimera at the end.

I remember using Cure 1 cross class on PLD along with an unhealthy amount of Shield Lobs and kiting in order to solo the chimera in Cutter's Cry. My party kept dying, and on the third try they died at 38% and I said, "Fine. I'll do it myself."

I remember when monsters had accuracy requirements. Tanks and any physical damage dealers needed far higher accuracy requirements than casters. Casters have always had it nice.

I remember when Direct Hit replaced accuracy.

I remember when parry was the "useless" tank stat, later replaced by tenacity. I also remember when DEX and STR affected the stat value and the mitigation obtained from it, respectively.

I remember mitigating -29% damage on DRG, and DRG having an 80% parry buff oGCD.

I remember the only mitigation Warrior used to have being Featherfoot and Parry related gear. This meant pentamelded gryphonskin accessories with VIT/Battledance/Savage might in them. I remember getting my Warrior to be able to have -25% damage on parries with 530 parry at level 50, while also being able to hit over 1000 on Inner Beast and heal for 3000.

I remember being told in Amdapor Keep, "This is the first time I've healed a WAR. Sorry if you die." Later on, "Wow, I didn't realize WAR could set Convalescence. This is surprisingly easy."

I remember before Overpower had an enmity modifier. They really made WAR rely on the wimpy tank stance(low enmity mod of x2, -25% damage) back then on top of Berserk/Maim/Unchained to hold hate. It worked just fine, it just wasn't effortless.

I remember the cross class Pugilist skill, "Internal Release." It originally gave +20% crit rate and was available to WAR, BRD, DRG, MNK, and NIN. They toned down the cross class of it to 10% and BRDs all raged, because of their precious River of Blood trait. They made it Monk only in Stormblood, and then removed it entirely in SHB.

I remember MRD meme damage. You could set 10 cross class skills if you were your class rathe than your job. This meant MRD could set Straight Shot(10% crit), Internal Release(20% crit), Raging Strikes(20% dmg), Blood for Blood(now Lance Charge)(20% damage), and some other things. Stack that all together with Maim(20% dmg), Berserk(50% dmg), and Storm's Eye(Slashing damage taken+10%) and for 20 seconds you had +110% dmg and +30% crit on top of whatever your gear gave. A critical hit Butcher's Block under all that could hit harder than DPS end combos.

I remember a lot. If I'd been around for 1.0, I'm sure I'd remember it too.

I feel like this thread will be hella cynical like "remember when MCH was fun" type of cynical , but yes peperage farm remembers

Not necessarily. I mean, it might be different for different people based on various factors, but, out of curiosity, I just timed how long it takes with both methods and, for me, teleporting to Limsa and etc. actually took me longer by about 11 seconds than if I just teleported to Horizon and used my mount (spent most of that time just waiting for loading. lol)... now if you don't have a mount yet, then that's a different story. lol Like I said, there's probably other factors that just make it different for different people, but for me, the Limsa route is actually slower.

It also depends on loading times. At busier server hours, and/or with a bad connection or weak computer, the time it takes to load the crowds in Limsa can make it shorter to just go to Horizon and walk.

Heavily disagree, cleric was the reason some healers didn’t even dps because they weren’t comfortable doing so while being able to keep the tank up.

The current iteration of the leveling dungeons make cleric very very terrible it didn’t serve a purpose just like tank stance and dps stance served no purpose but a useless juggling act...other games don’t put these nuances they just expand on what healers and tanks can do. This is all my opinion of course but cleric was never a good thing.

Cross skills! The many times as BLM I was able to save the group after the healer died, because I had Cure and unlimited mana. ACN having taunt, damage and healing, etc. Get an excited DPS? Taunt mob back to tank, or off healer, etc. I do miss BRD flame arrow! More ground dots!

It may be like that today, but that is also completely irrelevant to new players in 2021 since they give free warps.

But how was your test flawed? You are using a mount, like you said, which most players did not have until well into the msq, which comes with at least 1 tier of mount speed boosts that come with completing msq nowadays and perhaps the other speed boosts that are also available, things that did not exist until relatively recently. That was no help for new players back before there were free warps when we were giving out this information anyway. We tested it back in the day too and it was leaps and bounds faster, esp if you were on PC where loading times are usually a non issues, but even on ps3/4 were loading times were slower it significantly cut down travel time.

This was about as relevant as testing how fast we can complete Crystal Tower now, compared to back in 2.5

True when compared to other games it is clunky at best, though at the core context of healing in FFXIV general you DPS to the point at which healing is required. Though do get for many it created unnecessary busy work for many. Though personally I would take unnecessary busy work for something extra to worry about.

Granted, I am a weird and tank. Sometimes I ask the tank to not use cooldowns or remove some gear just to give me something to heal, and as a tank sometimes I ask tanks to not heal me to see how far we can go. Sadly, pretty fair most of the time if the dps is on point.

I had a tank way back in 2.X or 3.X actually start removing gear in...Qarn HM, as I recall... Just to make my healing life more interesting. We were pretty bored otherwise because there just...Wasn't a lot to heal.
