If there is another class that is Needed it is another mage.
Don't get me wrong I would like to see a pet class but we need another mage, preferably with a enfeebling/enhancing focus.
The other mage class is coming, Arcanist. They said they invisioned it as a trap style magic class. But who knows if that has changed by now.
I'm hoping to see PUP again soon.
Yoshi-P already acknowledged the lack of pet classes in one of his interviews as a balance issue. They'll probably be put in some time, we just don't have any time frame on that yet.
I think they should add in RDM, SMN, BLU for the magic classes and BST for the melee to balance the classes out a little
I'd like to see...
-- A pet class (either BST or SMN, probably SMN because there aren't many mage classes... hopefully both a BST+SMN one day)
-- An enfeebling class (probably RDM, or something like it...)
-- A hate/aggro redirection class (like THF in XI; the job helped keep hate on the tank)

I really want my Beastmaster but I'm very interested in what Arcanist will be like.
Arcanist isn't a class I even remotely care about.
I think the first pet class will be BST or PUP. I doubt we'll see SMN until we have a whole lot of primal, and lesser primal content. I imagine it would be boring if the only thing you can summon is spirits.
SMN is one of the strongest jobs in XI atm in new content if the SMN itself isn't gimped and did their magian trials or sought a nirvana.
BST or PUP all the way. PUP mainly because that little automata was smarter than most mages I've run across lol (and anyone who played it knows that says a lot about people who really don't try at their jobs -.-)

Um no sorry hun your wrong. I had all afv3+2 relic and emperyian with the correct accessories and my dmg was no where near a well geared BLM, DRK, WAR, MNK . . . . Unless you had some miracle gear that I didn't know about. Everyone confuses spike damage for the actual damage that is done over the whole battle. Yeah you may see SMN on FFXI doing 8k-12k or what not but here is the break down of that 8k-12k in abyssea terms we have a 45 sec cool down time after this huge spike dmg and also our pets hit for practically nothing then to top it off because perp cost we can only use our BP's for a very limited time and not to mention against bosses there is a huge resistance to our bp's and not only that most of our 75 BP's which are dated have huge accuracy flaws. . . . Now on my MNK with the correct atmas I hit for crits of 200-300 per hit usually double attacking or tripple attacking with a kick attack to a 5-7k WS every 20-30 seconds. Outside of abyssea SMN is even worse because X the atmas for refresh X all the atmas that give your pet MAB+ and MATK+. So I hope for FFXIV they don't leave SMN behind like they did in FFXI <3
You sure? Because even with Soulscourge (for damage) perpcost is so minimal to SMNs these days our auto-refresh can actually negate it, hence why I mentioned the magian trials and/or nirvana (which more are starting to float around.) When I say magian, I'm referring to the staff trials, not the armor trials which while AFv3+2 is nice, some of the AF2+2 augmented are also, but the main thing that separates SMNs from each other is the perp staves and/or mythic. The 75 BPs are boosted at level 99 (if you're not using the higher level BPs) so I wasn't referring to spike damage alone, I'm referring to overall performance that has been boosted outside of Abyssea.
Most SMNs never really reach it due to the fact they think +smn skill will make up for their gimped based SMN skill lol. So depending on when exactly you played, you likely missed out on some of the adjustments that boosted SMN outside of Abyssea. Even PUP shines outside of Abyssea if the master is up to date with everything, so I never take Abyssea into consideration due to the fact Atmas can boost even the gimpest of players into gods.
Necromancer would be a reality in future updates, cause in a quest they mention certain lost civilization that used their deceased soldiers to fight for themselves, and it worked fine until they got out control and attacked their masters and the zombies started to spread like.... errr sorry spoilers.... but well, the point is there seems have been necromanzers in Eorzea in distant past.
Mystic, Arcanist and Summoner are all data mined job names that have been found in the past. Yoshi said he want's to be a summoner and that they were working on it ^_^
I hope they take their time with pet classes and don't half-ass it; I want my future XIV jobs to be the best they can be <3
what's the point of a pet job? Either it brings balancing issues cause pets are too strong while it's master is in a save spot or they are at best comparable to any other DD (not used atm) and this way probably not getting used for content.
I wouldn't mind a beastmaster or summoner though, since both classes feel very FF-like. Just seeing issues with implementation. Especially with summoner and current direction of the usual summons like Ifrit and co. Or does everyone just wants to run around having an elemental spirit follow you..? well in this case summoner could be easily branched off of CNJ.
I love animals.... i love watching animal planet and watch predators hunting, i play a game full of monsters, i wana watch them fight for me while i stay safe and unspoted by other surrounding enemies that might end linking. Besides, beign able to leave your pet dealing with a foe while you go other diferent spot to deal with something else like activating a device while its guardian is distracted with your pet, or even stay safe in case your party whipe so then you raise them after the danger is gone... all this are very temptative reasons to have a pet.

I still play . . . and for the record I haven't seen any well geared SMN on Pheonix at top rank with the other melees. Sorry hun but SMN is still in beta and needs to come out of beta. SMN is still laughable AF2+2 is not as great some pieces are amazing but I use a few for my BP timer and ATT and still don't get the dmg of my other friends. . . What needs to happen is SMN 1 min timer needs to be brought down to 45 secs then there should be a 15 sec soft cap so they can get to 30 seconds . . . 15 secs make a huge difference . . . if this was made then we would see the SMN you and I are talking about. Even with my 417 capped SMN skill and the mythics with the Ice and Wind staff from magians. . . . I always came MNK because the DD is better :X
