Who is your Guardian?

Halone, the Fury.

Mover of glaciers and goddess of war, is the guardian deity of Ishgard. She commands the element of Ice and is associated with the first moon of the Eorzean calendar. Halone is the daughter of Rhalgr, and a bitter rival of Nophica. She is most often depicted as a relentless warrioress armed with a bronze greatshield. Her symbol is the three spears.

I've always felt more at home in Ishgard than anywhere else. Coerthas zones have always been my favorites. Coerthas Western Highlands on a clear day is stunning, the music is amazing, and the feel of the zone was a large impact on me my first (second, and third) time through the story.

I enjoy combat and action as opposed to idle time in town, crafting, or trading. I'm truly enjoying the game when I am in the thick of combat, be it smashing a dungeon, raid, or FATE.

The bronze greatshield symbolizes defense as well, to which I am constantly drawn as a Tank.

I am Furious, and my Guardian is Halone, the Fury.

Llymlaen, the Navigator.
Because I am a pirate from Limsa.

Oschon, the Wanderer. Because sitting still is for the weak.

Azeyma the Warden, given Enki is a Sunseeker kitty and all.

Halone for me. Used to be Llymlaen once upon a time though.

Changed from Menphina (ice) to Nald'thal (fire) because I thought changing to him would make my fire spells cost less a long time ago.

Originally, I chose Menphina, because I thought picking the goddess of love was a good choice.

Later, after playing the game more, I adopted a Sharlayan backstory, which makes me wish I chose Thaliak.

Since your patron deity has absolutely no function, if I was Square I might just replace it with an "origin" choice. Which is basically what people currently use it for, anyway. It'd be awkward since everywhere you go you're treated as an outsider adventurer, though.

This is the most use this selection has gotten since launch.

I chose to be a CNJ when I 1st played the game, so my starter City-State was Gridania. I chose Nophica since she was the patron deity of Gridania.

I also like how they used her image for the Twin Adder poster.

Menphina, The lover. I honestly randomly picked this when I first started. xD

Althyk, the Keeper, the surveyor of change and god of space and time, commands the element of earth and is associated with the Sixth Umbral Moon (twelfth month). He is depicted as an austere emperor wielding a mythril greataxe. His symbol is the hourglass. He is the father of Azeyma and Menphina, and elder brother to Nymeia.

I played WAR as my main in FFXI, and so the idea of a god of space and time that wields an axe really struck me. Especially one described as being austere.

Indeed. I remember when it gave minor stats, but while running around Ishgard the other day I stopped for a moment to look at one of the statues of the Fury and started thinking about it and how I managed to choose one that I actually feel some affinity to before Heavensward even came out, even if it ultimately does nothing but provide a little bit of fluff.

It made me wonder if others chose their Guardians on a whim, or because something about the description resonated with them.

Rhalgr, always liked the lightning / electricity element when it comes to fantasy games. It also works since I favor melee DPS.

Nymeia, goddess of fate - because the WoL is lead by a leash toward her fate.

Althyk, the Keeper, taken up because Raranpa Sasanpa began worshipping him (as opposed to Nald'thal which was his family's patron) following being pulled out of his absolute stupor of drunkeness (gone into following the death of his family during the 7th umbral catastrophe), and having finally run to the absolute end of his family's funds, forced to take up a place in the gladiator ring to make ends meet. He had to change himself so he sees Althyk as the own most responsible for keeping him from dying in a gutter. Change or die.

Still have my ring from version 1, not sure if they gave these out since rerelease, made Lou's teleport of our characters in End of an Era a bit more emotional somehow when I saw that big hourglass as he finished the spell.

My first character was originally an ice queen looking pale Roegadyn Lancer so Halone was the best fit. She's a strong warrior, her symbol is spears and her element is ice. When HW was released I was even more happy with my choice.

I didn't really have a reason aside from it sounding cool when I first started playing ^^"

I originally chose Azeyma back when I first started FFXIV in 1.0 as she was the closest of the Twelve in theme to the Dawn Goddess Altana in FFXI, who my FFXI character headcanon-wise worshiped, so it was an obvious choice (that and my character being a Seeker of the Sun miqo'te, the Warden was naturally her clan's traditional guardian too). And Azeyma also fit Enki's personality and backstory, she's strong-willed, determined and fiercely independent, with Azeyma's 'lady' aspect reflected in Enki's noble upbringing adopted into Ul'dahn high society giving her grace and elegance, yet she is also bright (even firery at times - hey, they're both redheads!), empathic and stubbornly altruistic.

So cue the irony with the big revelation in Shadowbringers about

the WoL being 12000 years before back in Amaurot as Azem the Wanderer, symbolized by the sun, whom Azeyma, and the xaela au ra clan's guardian sun god Azim, were cultural memories of), meaning Enki was basically praying to herself all this time - making herself her own guardian!.

So it made my choice of guardian even more appropriate.

It's pretty sad then that so far in this thread it seems I'm the only one who chose Azeyma. :(
