FFXIV Dev Team, good job on fixing Castrum. Now fix Duel Bottlenecking.

Yes, I know there's been multiple threads about this since 5.35, but we need to talk about this.

For those who are uninclined to do Bozja(which you have to for Relic, ngl) or ShB Relic, let me tell you how Duels work.

Duels are 1v1 battles between the player and a boss that has a high level of difficulty. In a PLL, they mentioned it was akin to a 'mini Ultimate'. The way Bozja's Critical Engagements work is you have to sign up for the CE in particular that is tied to the Duel CE you're looking for and not take any vuln stacks.

That's the gate. Among 48 people, those who didn't get the stacks will be able to apply for the Duel. This is where the issue stems from: There are lots and lots of people WANTING to get into Duels, that it's basically oversaturating itself already given the player count constraints(even in a 48-person CE, I've seen upwards of 25 actually join for a Duel before).

This creates a gigantic bottleneck to this particular content - sure, you can watch it all you like, but getting in is a challenge in and of itself on top of the 1h cooldown timer on these CEs in particular. The cooldown isn't the issue, but it's the amount of time used for the duration of the Duel CE: 20 Minutes.

You get 2 minutes to prepare before jumping into the Duel, and when you die that's it. Even if it's 2m in, it's gone. These CEs should not disappear until the timer is up, and those who have participated and qualified for the Duel should get the notification again when the boss resets as long as the Duel CE Timer isn't 0.

Either the boss dies, the Duel Boss can't find any more participants that qualified in the list, or the timer runs out. So please, Dev Team, consider opening this up for the community so the toxicity revolving around this piece of content can just up and disappear.


TLDR; Bozja Duels are too hard to get into. Need a fix to make it not toxic.

I don't do much Bozja but I guess that sounds reasonable. However, calling everything "toxic" makes me instantly want to disagree with whatever is being said.

Then tell me why people get so disgruntled about it when they've been trying to get into a Duel for hours on end, only to start being ugly after the umpteenth time to people who either are new to the fight or have already cleared with the title just because they want to get a clear for themselves.

On chaos on average less than 10 ppl queue for a solo duel and i never saw much "toxicity".
I dont think many people are upset about it tbh, but i agree the sistem can use some work,clike halfing the cd between them !

I was agreeing with your suggestion. All I was saying is the word toxic is so overused for everything that even when it fits the context, it makes my skin crawl.

The request sounds reasonable to me. I've qualified for dozens of duels but only been selected once. I don't care too much about it, but I can definitely see how it could frustrate someone who wants to clear them all.

I couldn't agree with this more. The word toxic has become everyone's instant go-to word for anything they dislike. It's so overused it just makes me mentally eye roll.

I've been shortlisted for a duel with about 2-10 people on average more times than I can count, but never been chosen. I'm not one to get vuln stacks so I just about always get shortlisted. I've not been particularly trying to do the duel (I'm really not ready) and I don't have one of those priority items, but it's interesting to never be selected.

I agree. A duel should take on all comers until it is defeated by someone or the timer runs out. It would go a long way to giving more people a chance and lowering the general toxicity around them. When you accept you get put into a queue of a sort and it goes down the list like a line.

While a great and really needed change, the one thing is it can really be abused by trolls wanting to "gatekeep" the content or just not let people have fun. Join the duel, then sit there and /dance until the timer runs out, then laugh at all the people you annoyed. There needs to be an auto-engage function added along with it that makes the boss just aggro you after a certain point.

Yoshi-P did mention that they didn't expect the problems with people getting into duels and would make some kind of adjustment for it. Didn't happen with 5.45 but will probably see something with the new zone.

If 25 people are queueing for the same duel, then the requirements to queue are too lenient.
