Unpopular Opinion: Gundam(SGE) Hype

Being a flex healer who currently progged up to e12s as WHM and then had to clear the tier as Noct AST because of our shield healer leaving and now practicing SCH again for my groups ultimate prog while we wait for 6.0 I have to say whatever they do to healers this next coming expansion isn't going to stop me from liking healer.

That aside I'm really looking forward to becoming a gundam.

Like a lot. The weapon design is probably one of the best in the game if not the best with so much potential for designs, especially their ultimate weapons dear god.
If they wanted to I'm sure they could make the fin funnels anything of relative size as long as the lasers/actions come out at the same point as the animations. Imagine controlling 4 floating swords, crosses, icecream cones, waterguns, etc. I know they won't do any of that but the weapon design is just so cool and they could even simply change the color of the beams to add amazing customization(tbh they should probably allow this for every job >.>).

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion. Concerns for sure, but if anything gives potential for them to address them...just a question of whether they do. I think the best way to describe how I feel about Sage is "cautiously optimistic". I am excited to see what Sage is like. It looks cool, is stylish as heck and I think the whole aesthetic going for it is great and am hype about that. I know during the broadcast my reaction was very, "Oh damn!"

I've been wanting to see some kind of "tech" healer and whilst I speculated/wished for a more tech orientated Chemist, this still hits for me, although they use aether as an explanation and it looks Sharlayan, it still plays to that aesthetic. The fact it's going to be a shield healer is positive for me, as I prefer it to pure healing but that's a bit where some of my caution is with my optimism.

And I can see it appealing to people who don't like the look & feel of current healers, if they're too 'magey' for their liking.

Gundam disappoints me at every turn and I'm super looking forward to the new healer.

A lot of people are more cautious about Sage than optimistic or pessimistic.

We know more about sage than healing as a whole atm, and that's why everyone is in wait and see mode if they aren't an Astrologian which are in justifiable panic mode.
We know the following: its got shields from Astro and Whm's lost self buffing niche. Its AF gear, weapon and poses. It will start at 70 (ofc) and so their first levelling dungeon is going to be the difficult hominister switch with its mass of scorpions near the start.

Meanwhile what we don't know:
Will shields finally stack or continue to be inferior to raw hp?
Will healers get some resemblance of a downtime back aside from pressing 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 etc or will we be stuck as "pure healers" again
Will the stat squish be weighted to make healing requirements heavier or are we gonna be in the same state as before with 75% of our buttons being dps
Will mp become a resource again rather than just a limit on raises?
Are the devs going to acknowledge and fix the monumental volume of problems on healers they added in throughout stormblood and budgetbringers or double down on them?
Are the levelling kits going to be fixed at all or will they still have less going into sastacha now than they did back in ARR?
Will Sage be a magical girl with lasers instead of glitter, or will it be a proper techy healer thats not overly feminine for a change?
Will healers start moving away from being in nightwear and robes and into armour or are we going to suffer in the glamour department again?
Will whm get its elements back and expand on the lillies or will they delete assize and misery for not being "pure healer" enough?
Will sch get its fairies back or are they gonna be further butchered and try and delete energy drain again?
Will Astros get their time magic and cards back as compensation for losing noct sect?

I could go on but you get the idea. They haven't given us much to work on, and their recent reasoning and statements do not give cause to be optimistic for the current 3. Sage is a different beast since new jobs are always more flashy and varied to entice players to try them out so it could well be a scenario where sage is fun but whm/sch/ast aren't

oh i love sage, and everyone i've seen or heard on the topic also is quite excited for the class (especially my ex-AST fc buddy who's been looking for a new class since they double-lobotomized his main).

...it's just healers in general that people are leery of unless something big changes in 6.0, since SGE will be just as plagued with their issues otherwise, which will ruin any enthusiasm the class might have initially had.

What I do like about sage already is the weapon animation that looks like Vayne Carudas Solidor and his swords and how they move.

The aesthetics of the job have me hyped, though I don't watch Gundam so idk what's supposed to be similar to Gundam here. How much I'll actually play it, we'll have to see in 6.0.

It's just in that it's a robot remote laser weapon.
Some dudes in Gundam use similar things, but it's far from being unique to or a reference to Gundam.

Pretty much this. That demo really did not give us anything beyond some flashy animations, a poor weapon design (by my preferences) as a teaser. It's purely marketing.

I am definitely in the cautious or even pessimistic category.

Agree with you. Hope one of their weapons will look fey-inspired, like the Titania sets, or something like Yuna's Floral Fallal dressphere (:

This one isn't worth worrying about. "Pure healer" is just Japanese people's way of saying "not a shield healer". It doesn't mean literally "someone who only heals" as an English speaker would interpret it.

I don't know about Gundam, never bothered to watch any of it, but Sage kinda reminds me of Vergil's summoned swords from Devil may cry, which is really cool.
Can't wait to try make a gender swapped cosplay glam of it :D

It's also very nice to finally have a healer class that isn't overly feminine in it's animations and style, not that i dislike those things, but it's nice to have variety of style in the healer role.

Considering they nerfed ED because they "wanted SCH heal more", anything is possible. They could quite easily decide they "want WHM to use lilies to heal more" and stop using Assize for dps.

Yep, though I think WHM needs an Energy Drain equivalent, in the sense they need something that's not a healing spell they can dump lilies on. When I have no healing to do I'm just having to force out heals needlessly to get Afflatus Misery. I took my WHM to Bozja last weekend and found myself with full lilies being like "I have nothing spend these on", which I know was the core complaint that had SCH get Energy Drain back.

Sitting on 3 lilies because there's nothing to heal, no transition to dump them on and just throwing them out for nothing would be a dps loss feels bad, same with SCH before they got ED back and to some extend still the case with fairy gauge. It shouldn't be optimal gameplay to ignore your secondary resources from time to time.
Banking some because you know heavy damage is coming up is one thing but not even having the option to spend them on something else is a different matter and should really be adressed. Plus it may solve a lot of the mobility and clipping issues WhM still has.

Don't do that, afflatus misery is a DPS loss if the heal is wasted. (900p from misery vs 1200p from 4 glares), it's also not a gain in AOE (4 holies at 150 potency = 600 per target VS 900+(450x(targets-1)), misery still less). It's a catch up tool at best and optimal WHM play results in it not being used until people take hits 3 times or you get autoattack'd low enough to have to heal. Often resulting in lily charges being used between battles instead so you can open the next fight with a 900p spell.

While I don't know how Gundam inspired the new healer, it does give me the impression they also had some inspiration from Vindictus (a character there uses a lot of floating weapons known as Phantom Daggers).

This should give you a bit of a hint as the trailer even replicated this attack. The Fin Funnels can also create a defensive barrier.

I know it's a DPS loss, but it's /something/ to break out of a Glare or Holy spam. It's little, but...it's something. Because my god does it get dull.

The concept of floating weapons that revolve around the wielder goes back further than Gundam, I'm sure. Fin Funnels on their own were likely inspired from displays of telekinetic ability used offensively from various displays in fiction and fantasy that go way back; but I think it was Gundam that mechanized the concept into Fin Funnels, using rocket propulsion and user-input programming in place of mind control over the weapons; they also gave them defensive capability with the barriers. I could be wrong though.

I wouldn't say Sage is inspired from solely Gundam, as the Nouliths combine both mechanized technology and mind control. I think that might be why when "Gundam" was brought to Yoshi-san's attention, his facial expression kind of read, "Well... not entirely". It's going to be interesting to see the various designs of the Nouliths.

I wish I could interview the job, battle and glamour designers sometimes. Especially the former, there's so many important questions, suggestions and explainations that should be attended to. The latter two are less impactful on player enjoyment since players will naturally always find a way to play and the battle design team have outright said before that job design doesn't impact battle design whereas the opposite is true. (hence why healing is so low)

Decoupling Warrior and Dark knight, buffs being strong enough to be visible without parsers (at least now we know why) Bard songs, levelling kit fixes, machinist ping issues, monk's button bloat, role skill diversity, stun/silence disparity within roles, job depth being lost for accessibility...

those are just the ones off the top of my head that I would like to ask

Technically low grade psychic powers are utilized to control them in Gundam too, though it's a matter of using their psychic powers for positional awareness than direct control.
