how much? I'm expecting that to be at least $50.
I personally don't care for it but 8 person is kind of neat.
The only appeal from that thing is the amount of seats. The thing is hideous.
Multi-seat mounts are kinda cool in theory. Even using a 2 seater in a hunt train gets irritating when you're waiting for someone to get on.
If I get it, it'll just be another +1 to my mount collection. I don't use any of the multiplayer mounts since everyone I know has unlocked flying and can move around by themselves...
I don't actually have any friends, I play solo, so the 8-person feature is useless to me. I almost NEVER use my car.. The mount would be the exact same for me, just an addition to my collection.
Really, the only time I ever even saw a use for multiple seater mounts was in Eureka. They are pretty much just novelty right now.
I half-expect it's going to be like buying a ticket for FanFest, and the mount et al will be the complimentary goodie bag you get as an attendee. (Since, after all, it appears to also include three minions, at the very least.) I wouldn't be 100% surprised if they did something like "those who bought a digital ticket get to jump the line for Q&A events" or it gave you access to a pre-release trial in-game like the ones people could attempt at in-person FanFests, etc.
So while I'd hope it wasn't something like $99 for just a mount, it wouldn't surprise me if they put that sort of price on a 'digital ticket' for full attendance; plenty of games do that to allow digital attendees of in-person gatherings. (Like for EVE Online's own FanFest in years past.) It'd be less 'buying the mount' and more 'buying a ticket, and getting the mount and minions and whatever else as your attendee swag'.
After all, while they said all the streams would be free, I don't think they specified whether there would be other events as part of FanFest besides the streams or whatnot. (It's possible I missed it; I was out of the room for a little bit right around that part of the stream.)
He was told by a friend of a friend of a friend, who's mother herd it from her hair dresser who herd it from her cousin, who herd it from a homeless person who herd it from a a guy down the street who is bffs with this guy who traveled to Japan, who ran into someone who herd it from a girl who is friends with someone who herd it from a street performer who is good friends with the guy that sells Yoshi, jewelry.
*Fills the mount with FSH and DRG*
"We're whalers on the moon!"
Neat for those who like it. To me, it's ugly as sin, and I'm not fond of gigantic mounts to begin with.
From what I can see from the trailer, you can't even see the people on the mount and they just end up as invisible names.
So yeah, hard pass, just going to stick to my Regalia
Honestly that's what I gathered how I look at it. Fan fest itself is free this year, even probably the primal concert as well, so those that want to throw money at the fan fest can still do so and get those items as complimentary. I mean you also get some ff4 minions as well.
gonna be like $80 aud
Please consider an /autopillon option.
It takes a crazy amount of time to get everyone to jump in, I've found this with the regalia.
The mount itself looks pretty cool, but it seems to have no animations whatsoever :\
Lunar Whale is for three types of people: FFIV fans, players who wanna be able to ride with the whole squad, and FFIV fans who wanna ride with the whole squad
I guess the cost will be that if a fan fest ticket, minus the fan fest attendance.
SE gives the whales a whale, so they can whale why they whale. :D
Kinda on the nose if you ask me. lol
I honestly don't see the point. I will use the other seats on my mounts to carry people for aether currents and the like, or in something like Eureka before mounts became accessible. Other than that, the other seats get rarely used.
agreed, as a solo player too I will get this because I like to collect some mounts ..I don't strive for them all,but this one I think is nice!

Can we have these ugly but cool things in actual in-game events? You know, since we are playing a game. Instead of having hats we can't wear, fused events, housing items, streamers no one uses and CUL knives. I think it's better than having people decide whether
they want to pay about 50 euros (which is my guess) on it or miss it while we keep getting shafted on events that are supposed to be special. Thanks.
Hi, the actual event is free. This whale will be about as useful as the limited-event car in a few months, which isn't very useful at all.
As far as funding events like this, I'm more than happy to have a limited-run event like this as opposed to them charging everyone a digital ticket to view the streams. I'd rather everyone have access to the stream than have everyone with that... thing.
I might shell out for it, with it being an FFIV reference and all. Which I guess means, no actual Lunar Whale to take us to the Moon. Tower of Babil it is!
Eh, usefulness is subjective. I still use my car every so often, though I find myself cruising around on my SDS Fenrir more than anything. It's hard to look at most other mounts that I have or don't have and think "man, I'd love to ride around on that" when I have a motorcycle as awesome as that one. lol An object's worth or appeal, pixeled or otherwise, is also subjective. Personally, I'm looking forward to this lunar whale. I think it looks great. I'd say more but I would probably sound like a broken record.
Love that a "Whale" mount is available for purchase and is likely to be the most expensive mount for purchase... no shame haha
It remains to be seen how integral a Lunar Whale is to the narrative or tone of Endbringer. I'm assuming it'll be like the car wherein... it's not relevant at all. It's a FFIV reference because we're going to the Moon. And if people want to show a little voluntary financial support, all the more power to them.
It's not like they don't give us crazy cool things to get in-game.
My FC was joking around prior to the announcement showcase about what the next expansion could be to make it another 'SB' acronym. I quipped it could be "Spacebound" or "Spaceborne", and we'd take an ancient Allagan starship (since we know those existed) and work with magitek experts we'd recruit out of the ruins of Garlemald to restore it so we could get to the moon.
And then we got the announcement.
I mean, I was joking at the time... but now I kind of want to see if we get to restore/retrofit an ancient Allagan spaceship in order to get there.
Not sure about the mog shop impacting this but your comment on not feeling "I'd love to ride around on that" is why I wish mounts had more flavor. Kind of wish you saw a new mount and was like "Wooooaah! I'd love to try driving that!". Like if you look to GW2's mounts, each one is quite different in feel and features.
Kind of wish there was a movement type (impact) to each mount and some more both actual and goof abilities more often, with perhaps the option to turn on "atherial movement" which has your character infuse the mount with a default move type (taking away any unique characteristics if you didn't want the unique move style). So a mount may pick up speed as if it accelerates, or have a rocket boost, or goof abilities are the ones we already see 'sometimes'. The unique movement could technically be a little better than atherial movement but is just like "I don't want to tokyo drift on my manta ray" so you turn it into the default type. Maybe for the whale it has a drop ship feature so you could launch out players like in pods to the ground from at height (assuming you're over pathable ground).
I know it might be a bit silly but, I guess I don't really love that the mounts don't have that much character to them.. but it doesn't ruin the game, just feels a bit empty that they are all the same.
