I am just hoping the farming island means that people who do not have a house will be able to do gardening and crossbreed plants, which would solve at least one problem with housing. (Since there are people who only want a house for gardening and don't care about the rest of housing, and people who only have a house because of gardening.)

See you guys in about a year when Ishgard housing has gone live and we get a dozen different sour grapes threads about it and how the housing problem still isn't fixed?

Ishgard was their chance to fix the core problem of housing. Seems like they are content with how things are. Hopefully their definition of increased supply actually puts a sizeable dent in the demand.

I mean they would have a point still, this was a chance to honestly open up a housing zone outside plot buying and go instant, with a proplem they aren't fixing and honestly can't lol

This was theire chance to fix problems regarding the housing situation.
But they choose to ignore it. AGAIN.
Housing will stay the same...

The Island should be instance housing. If you can't have a house there then they have failed.

I'm pretty disappointed with the Ishgard housing announcement. They've known since at least 4.1 that the ward system isn't serving the player base sufficiently and yet they're still being stubborn about sticking with it.

Koji's translation of YoshiP's comments about Ishgard housing during the showcase (short of some "and"s and "so"s and a few other stray words not adding information):

I doubt the new housing is intended only for those who participated in the Restoration as that seems to imply.

It's disappointing that we're going to have to wait about another year before we get a substantial increase to the house plots on every world when the need for them is 2 years ago when the player population exploded.

Hopefully the statement about the number of wards being the same as other housing districts doesn't mean that the total number of wards in each district won't be increasing. Only adding 1440 more plots is not going to be enough considering how fast everything has disappeared in the last 2 expansions plus after the demo time resumed.

I'm having difficulty seeing this as a sincere effort to meet the demand for houses when ward additions have failed to address long term need every time. 720 houses added in 5.35? Gone the same day on most worlds. Several hundred houses per world available on January 22nd after demolition resumed? Again almost all gone same day.

This is not going to work.

It's also very disappointing they are ignoring apartment size options and addition of alts as tenants even though they had brought up both subjects a few months after the 4.2 ward addition three years ago. Apartment size options would decrease some of the demand for house plots since the primary complaint against the apartment system is the small size. If our alts are denied a chance to purchase houses because we already own a house on the same world, then our alts need to be made tenants of those houses we own.

it's just sad that where SE does so many other things well, they continue to leave the housing system a mess.

It's potentially a problem they have issues fixing or think we're just whining about it in the west... but based off census data I've seen, the lowest population server in NA has more players than the highest in JP. This implies that while in JP the number of houses available on those servers is more in line with the number of players, while on ours, we have far more players than houses.

Also on a selfish note, I do hope they repeat the trend of opening it to moving and FCs first... mostly so I can move from Kugane to Ishgard.

My server had plots available for several weeks after the last addition so an entire housing area is plenty enough. Even after the auto demolish frenzy there were plots in Goblet with no one camping them.

I hope everyone including fcs, private owners and currently homeless players can all have equal access to Ishgard housing. The fastest should win their desired plot.

I'll be staying in Mist because I hate the snow (I see way too much of it where I love every winter as it is). But even though I pretty damn sure it was coming, it's nice to have confirmation for those who wanted it. Plus, it means more housing in general for the populations that's had problems getting them.

Once the expansion hits, the player population will be at it's peak, I suspect all plot will be taken in the weeks before 6.0 lands.

Unpopular opinion I know, but I've never been much one for painstakingly decorating a living area. I only really like having a "home" in this game just for the ability to slap a few portraits on the wall, the option of training my chocobo (which I'll frankly probably never actually get around to, but I just like knowing I *can*), and to be able to say "I got to choose the city in which my character wished to claim citizenship".

In other words, while everyone else is scrambling over plots and bemoaning their fate if they can't grab one, I'll just be over here content as a clam that I was able to secure an apartment in Ishgard (which I'll be first in line for while everyone else is busy camping plots). :D

I’m also going to be aiming for an Ishgardian apartment; I have a really good plot in LB that I adore (17/47) and don’t see myself giving it up.

They will probably open it to FCs and relocators first like before, unless they actually do add enough supply to meet the demand (LOL! As if that will ever happen.)

Ishgard Housing (Unreal) will be quite the trial.
But I'm hoping Square will address, explain, and maybe the whole island sanctuary will be the instanced housing everyone called for while having the usual residential district be the garbled mess that it is.

It was never a question of 'if', but 'when'. The Firmament is CLEARLY laid out like a player housing district, with houses of the right sizes and even what is obviously going to be an apartment building.

All I can say is that hopefully the island thing turns out to be instanced housing that drastically lowers the demand for housing lots.

Island Sanctuary sounds far more like WoW Garrisons than instanced housing.

I wouldn't hold out hope for them.

I know a lot of people have been waiting so long for Ishgard housing but I'm not a fan. The constant grey tones would get old really fast for me. I need some colour in my life. I have zero intention of ever moving there.

However I am happy for those who enjoy Ishgard's aesthetic. I wish them the best of luck in the zerg rush.

I'm excited for what the island could potentially be, which means I will likely be disappointed.
