They are hit or miss depending on the job, but that is always the case with every relic stage.
the 2.0 relic were all well designed the whole way through they have yet to do that again
I'm pretty pleased with the BLM one at least.
I haven't been a fan of the relic designs since HW so /shrug
A lot of the Eureka weapons already had baffling designs so it's nothing new.
I mean, just look at this thing.

Its almost as if the relics aren't in a completed state yet.
I thought they looked decent, minus the glow, which I'm not really partial for in a general sense lol. I feel SE hits with maximum glow settings every time the things rank up lol. I hope they can find some more subtle glows (like in the sense the final weapon has activity but only to supplement the design and not "be the design").
For example the brotherhood sword in FFX is neat, if you imagine the "glow" for that weapon would simply be the sword bubbling and rippling about as if, or more like "because it", was made of water and dripping. The sword wouldn't be this huge glow. I imagine such intentional designs would take more time, but just my thought on them. More subdued and 'purposeful' animations. Maybe an eye on the shield moves about, or a katana glows red and dark through combat and then after a little while "drinks up" and sucks the purple/red energy and coloration up into the hilt (rated T version of a blood thirsty katana lol). Sun beams occasionally peer onto the sword of a Paladin while it gleams and radiates even in the dark. Animated tree staff for whm, perhaps that loses leaves as your mp % goes down. Weapons flaring up with energy when using a skill (but not as a 24/7 big glow).
Whatever, doesn't have to be a function response (like the mp %)- just stuff that kind of fits the vibe of the item and has a bit of story to it. Sure maybe the axe has something to do with rage so red fire is sort of in line, like dark knight with dark energy, but it's so big and screaming "I GLOW" that I find it's difficult to ascribe too much of a purpose beyond that it glows because it glows.
The knuckles and the katana look like off-brand glowing suzaku weapons :D
I think they are all pretty good
besides Bard looks like some bed frame
What do you mean? Of course I adore my tree branch! /s
Same here. They have gone a little off the wall with glow effects in all the relics since them. I love how the 2.x relic glows were more subtle and enhanced the design instead of completely overshadowing it with bad particle effects.
These ones are hit or miss. The dnc sans the glow and blm are by far the best. I was going to do both but I am not running ST another 15 times and I am not running mhach and ivalice 36 times...each.
I'll be honest relic weapons are rlly horrible looking tbh every 1 of them, Primal weapons like 100% better for most things, and when they dont honestly some dungeon weapons look better as does some golden saucer ones.. Like bloodsword still looks the best to me for paladin lol
Welcome to the life of a white mage main.
I'm beginning to think there's a minimum number of fates you have to do in a row before you get a drop. I've only gotten one memory drop from fates and thats when i spent about 50 straight farming them... ive been doing them inbetween queues and after 40-50 of them, i havent seen one drop
mch is 10/10 .. two guns glued together...
I dont know what's up with you guys. I like my MCH and GNB relic. At least MCH isnt looking like a tiny or thin toy.
In the end its a thing about TASTES. And nobody should argue about that. If you dont like it, dont bother with it.
I'm neutral/enjoy the majority of the new relics, though I agree that some of them are... Simple, similar to others, or odd (like Bard).
If there's any "Square what happened to the relics", though; it's for the AF4s. We don't have a special version of them yet - a departure from every relic step in the past... Which is a massive detriment here.
Many of the designs for them are very good. I *still* use the BLM one as a glamour to this day!
This is the first time I don't want any of the new relics. I'll do WHM because it's my main but, geez, this staff is gross.
It's alright, if I post a video showing all of the Resistance/Relic Weapons right?

Honestly, I'm loving the DRG one, but I HATE the NIN one. I'm a NIN main and the Relics for them aside from Zeta looks awful.
So far HW DRK, ARR NIN, and ShB DRG I'm loving for designs.
Seeing more of them now, GNB i515 Relic is not bad looking. The WHM one is looking better than the Tree Staff with a White Gem.
As much as I love the red blade for the SAM, really with that design? So basic. But not too awful.
DRK can't catch a break, the Soul Edge looking Relic from HW is still the best design Relic.
MCH... that is a banging gun. I dig it. BLM and RDM, yes. MNK, no.
I'm amazed someone manage to get all of them already.
Glad that WAR looks ok, Eureka relic looks like top garbo and as soon I got it and my armor that was my focus, I glamoured to Minus Lux
I'm mix's about BLM weapon that I need to grind for and I like the one I have now. I can buy a replica of my current one I have n glam it over the current one yes?
Everyone has different tastes, fine.
But these legit dont look bad at all.
Im personally just not a fan of the Bard Bow. And Samurai's Katana is abit hilarious, but its neat that they dulled the effects on THAT one.
I like the bard bow when its sheathed, since it really has the lyre look to it, but once its drawn it just doesn't work for me.
I am super disappointed that they went away from the wing designs on the smn and sch books and gave them both just the same vaguely wingish glow but to be fair all the glows are just off somehow. This kind of glow would make the weapons look much better if it were more subdued. But they just cannot stop overshadowing the weapon designs with glowverkill
I doubt they did, it's likely just data miner tricks
It's not just the relics that have gotten bad. It's also the gear the last few patches. They need a new fresh person in there who isn't rerolling the longcoats of boredom every time new gear is introduced at the token vendor.
I would have been happy to have more ways to get Ragnarok. Or maybe get options to choose what the relic looks like on the final step between existing ones.
I'm fine with relics having wildly different models between steps, It ensures they mix it up and if you don't like the first wave of models it might be different during the later ones. I didn't like the previous relic model for samurais in last leg this expansion but I do like the new one. Sometimes you might luck out with both models generally are agreed as "good" like the two RDM models this expansion, but there is no such thing as a universally loved weapon model so casting as wide a net as possible means that there will always be something that is to some population's liking.
It's all subjective. I've found the most recent gear they've added to be some of the best in the game to date. We get Gabranth's outfit from Bozja - something I've always wanted but never dreamed of actually getting. I also liked the fending set from the 5.3 dungeon as well as the 'Dark Souls' inspired sets for tome gear. Some of the Eden gear isn't bad, either. As for casual sets? I really like the latest one from Ishgard's scrip vendor as well as the tight leather and cap from treasure dungeons.
I disliked most of the Nier stuff, meanwhile - though many of the more recent sets have made up for that.
I honestly love the new gear and Bozja gear
its gonna be hell getting the judge gear dyable but im keen
I like DRK's... glow. It reminds me of the purple/dark fire that consumes the warrior of darkness in the Shadowbringers CGI trailer.
My only issue with it is the model of the weapon itself. It's... just kinda ok? Which from what I've seen, is a bit of a running theme (barring the Eureka bioweapons)...
Anyways I main dancer so when I got my chakrams I just kinda stood there and went "yuuuup. Those sure are chakrams."
