"looks at event items" .. meh.
Especially if you're a Hroth/Viera player...it basically renders the event useless. I wish they'd realize this is a problem and at least not limit events to a single hat item every time...knowing that it literally leaves out a section of the player base in the cold...
Events are rare and should not be a "F.U." to a portion of the player base.
That or you know take the time to make event items work with our races. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It looks more like the evens are being merged together. I hope it's a one time thing, I actually enjoy both events... but treated as separate holidays with unique rewards.
Similar things have been said about housing items, particularly the out door ones (since technically I don't think a single server is out of apartments, they're just a big step down from actual houses).
SE still does SE. :p
Although of course I personally think they need to ensure event items at least work on the races with weird heads, as those items go into the mog shop and mog shop items that don't work on all races just sounds like a big "u wot"?" to me. That said luckily I pretty much never wear a hat as a preference, so.. the hat issue is hardly a problem for me lol.
oh look another hat my viera cant wear looks like I get to save some time.
I'm starting to worry that seasonal events are taking up more resources than they're worth. The decor is placed by hand and isn't recycled year to year. Then, of course, there's resources poured into animations and cutscenes for stories that are usually very similar to one another and only available once for a short period of time. That the rewards are very hit or miss is just another factor in all that.
Both events have come with some pretty spiffy outfits in the past. This is just so underwhelming.
Yeah event rewards keep getting worse and uninspired
Funny how more and more things get funneled into the Mogstation online store ,and the events are getting worse and worse with really underwhelming rewards.
The items are definitely meh, but I'm assuming that the events are continuing to be a victim of Covid and work-from-home inefficiencies. I doubt this will be a permanent change.
I'll still do it for the story, but sheesh, this is just sad.
Even crappy mobile gacha games do better Valentine's events than this
I mean, I usually try to be fairly positive, or at least positively fair, about the game but this is just pathetic.
If pressed for development time, all they had to do for Valentione's was remove the gender lock from the outfits from last year and reoffer them even if it meant they had to be considered "new items."
And for Little Ladies Day? Take the new hair style that they've stupidly locked in a random chest at the end of Bozja and have that as the Little Ladies Day event reward.
It's not rocket science.
I mean, there is a pandemic going on, which is obviously going to affect things and I feel like that's at least why some events have been mashed together. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt on that, although I obviously can't say whether or not they would have "done better" without the pandemic to throw a wrench in things.
I also really like the idea of removing gender lock from last year's outfits and reoffering them but I can see people complaining about that too lol. The hair thing is a super neat idea tho and imo makes more sense than getting it in Bozja.
I've only been playing for a few years now, but when I do see the old rewards for events I often find myself thinking "A mount that's a bear dressed like Santa??? Why haven't I gotten anything like that in events I've done?" It's also a little sad to see those old rewards getting shoved onto the Mogstation instead of... idk, giving people a chance to win them back every few years or something. (I bought a cherry tree for 16mil gil just because I didn't wanna spend the $3.50 on the Mogstation on principle). Corporate SE has definitely been leaving their fingerprints all over stuff like this...
If they were to do more inspired rewards, what would people like to see? Personally for me, non-gendered clothing and mounts would be nice. Another fun thing might be aesthetic items like umbrellas!
Even before Covid-19 entered the picture I thought that some of the seasonal events seemed to be rather lacking in rewards and phoned in. From what I've seen elsewhere, other MMO's don't seem to be struggling quite as much as FFXIV is when it comes to getting meaty seasonal events out there alongside regular content patches.
As for what I'd like to see in terms of rewards? More feminine outfits and hairstyles for female characters and more masculine outfits and hairstyles for male characters, please. I'm weary of the 'unisex' route since I'm not interested in androgynous or feminine fashion.
Since we're discussing potential event rewards- I had a little mini(ish, sort of?) game thought, they might consider the chocobo gold and silver feathers or perhaps a bit more logical but special moogle tomes - to some that might have some value. Certainly a bit less theme'd to the content than a heart shape moogle but the way the event works could be still.
Like I imagine a 'good' version of the WoW plague that killed everyone on the streets (hilarious, I was so confused when it happened). With perhaps a quest item being used as a cheap means for memory management, every time you earn valentine you gain one of this item which can be then used via emote or interacting with the item and a target to send a valentine (this means two items, one for valentines spendable, one for sent). The quest will reward players with some of this charge, as a one time thing, but you will get say 2 charges per commendation in content as well (so a fixed amount from the quest, but an ever growing quantity from commendations that can get spread around). You can use the valentine on players like a phoenix down (out of combat) to raise them, on teleporting players to null their gil cost, sprint players gain a huge boost to sprint time, mounts travel faster, etc, or just because you want to- whatever, some cute side effects to make players have more fun with it (and of course it needs a heart animation to the player like dote lol). Those hit with a dote will gain a stacking buff, that buff will also represent a reduced reward (for a short duration). Meaning targeting individuals that haven't been doted upon will reward you the most. You always get a spendable charge (when doted). So in general the stock amount of doting should increase lol.
You can take all that 'spent' valentines to the moogle tomestone agent to purcahse neat things that normally those moogles sell. Event item could be in there too at a bit more reasonable price.
correct me if I'm wrong but WoW also lets you earn all the past seasonal items as well right? I follow big picture stuff for other MMOs but not really seasonals for each game lol.
So in order, does WoW add new content to each seasonal, and does WoW still offer everything that it offered in the previous season?
If so.. kind of a double oof towards FF.
We can mention COVID or perhaps they've insane crunch for their huge new big cool announcements ... and maybe that's true (sounds plausible), but if the next expansion is just normal and they keep this sort of thing up.. then that's not so great lol.
That's an unfortunate trend then :P
Also to clear up, I'm not saying "unisex" items, I'm just saying I don't want them locked to a gender (I see how my phrasing was a little funky tho). I do like the split of more traditional masculine/feminine outfit options, but gosh darn it sometimes I want my catboy to be able to wear the funky tights or high heels.
I LOVE this idea, the idea of using Valentines as like... actually giving a Valentine lol~ More done with the chocobo feathers would be cool too... I've had a few floating in my saddlebag that I will probably never use cos I don't have enough to spend them on the rewards I do want :P
Cool snowman mount was VERY cool. I was quite happy with that, I still have a load of fun with it terrorizing the neighborhood with my FC mates.
I agree with you that not every event item has to be like, the greatest thing ever or whatever. But there is also merit in discussing pushing back on things like, especially cos good points have been brought up about Mogstation and the state of previous event items and what have you.
These discussions always seem to have a number of people going on about "the good ol' days" tho. I don't think it's all doom and gloom, but it's something that some people are upset about, so I guess it makes sense.
See I'm fine with events being close together or after one another. The events usually only have like a hour or two worth of content at best before you are done with it and get to just look at the pretty décor.
But.. What happened? I get it they may still be behind.. but heck. They skipped events, and now we're getting next to nothing? Least if they are going to do this.. maybe oh I dunno add the event items from the old events in the event shop for the limited time.
We use to get 2-3 items at least per event. Art posted.. little odd and end décor.. anything. Music scrolls? The events were already short and kinda sad compared to other mmo holiday events. But now.. :(
This exactly for me. I love the spiffy vest from last year, but I'd like to wear it with the cute shorts ladies got. The slacks that came with the male set were nearly identical to the dozens of other plain slacks already available in-game to guys, and I need another pair of those like I need a hole in my head. Conversely, I know there's plenty of people with female characters out there who would like to be able to wear the vest and are starving for a decent pair of pants.
I'd be over the moon if they lifted the gender lock from these items when they put them on the mogstation in a few days, more than enough to make up for how underwhelming this year's event awards are.
I may be in the minority here, but I'd love remixes of existing songs.
A spooky remix of Rak Tika for halloween.
A valentines remix of Zenos theme.
A christmas version of The Twinning.
I love the starlight celebration because of how goofy the music is, and while they can def keep music uniquely forefront in that event and its stories, I think the other events could benefit from some goofy tunes too.
It'll never happen though : D
But I'd like to see something like that.
I just hope the Vest from last year goes on mogstation. Was unable to take part.
The other side effect of not putting nice items in these events... they will have less to sell in the Mogststion next year.
Just another random thought for potential content / rewards..
Inspired by ItMe mentioning remix of songs. There are a number of 'romance' or 'romance-like' songs through the FF series. Remixing, or just straight up adding, those songs could be pretty neat for some players.
I can mentally recall a few tracks from FFVI, FFVII, FFIX, FFX, and FFXV that I would ascribe that romance and or relationship level music to (some bitter sweet, but I think that's fine, and you might gain opportunity to tell the event quest story with inspiration from that game / music itself).
See.. I could excuse some things but over all the FFXIV events are just lack luster. Sure there are cute stories but you cannot tell me these 1 hour tales (at most) take that much effort.. and if they are.. well.. that's kind of sad.
With mention of another mmo that has been out longer than even 1.0 XIV getting a possible update, overhaul and graphic update.. I was quickly reminded how fond and how much I looked forward to the holiday events there. Even for a game old as dirt now they offered new stuff most if not all years for the game (I dunno I haven't played in the last 5 or 6 years?) but even if you had all the event stuff.. the mini games were still fun!
Like horse races, scavenger hunts, just small things that yes they recycled year to year.. but they were still enjoyable.
Where is that effort in a game that has easily pulled in more from subs alone and not counting the cash shop or retainer bills. =/
Well, these reward are disappointing. 2 Recycled item
They even didn't even bother to make it wearable for Viera and Horth.
