[BLU] probably already been raised, but: aetherial mimicry 'dummies'.

Would be a neat little quality-of-life touch (i realize the devs generally refuse to put 'blue mage' and 'quality of life' in the same sentence, but one can hope) to have a tank, dps, and healer 'dummy' or npc near the BLU teacher or carnevale entrance to help with aetherial mimicry- (and therefore role-)swapping on the fly, if we're going to continue to be forced to use an external source for that in the future.

(5.45 is in a few days so this might all be moot by then, who knows)

Surely it would be easier if it just cycled through the stances as you pressed it?

oh certainly! i'm just working under the assumption that we wont get anything actually nice, and will have to continue under the current mechanics.

I sure Martyn would love a Dummy, but with what he's getting paid that's probably too expensive.

eulmore's a fair bit smaller, so i find it's easier to track people (and therefore their class juice) down there without running afoul of as many crafter-glam idlers

Please SE, do that, or release three new spells instead of only having mimicry with three different effects...but do something....It would not be the first skills that make previous skill useless (ultravibration probably being the best example now...it made both Lv5 and launcher really bad in comparison)

A few friends from my FC on Behemoth have taken to AFKing by the Carnival NPC as healers and tanks instead of logging off so folks can use AM as needed.

Dummies, or even just rando NPCs you can Mimic off of would be an amazing QoL, but until then, I'm happy to AFK for folks as needed.

All blue mage skills are mimic skills, the jobs description is 'mimic the aetherial magicks of wild creatures'.

I don't have to go looking for a coeurl everytime I want to use basic instinct though.

Players : I DON'T UNDERSTAND I CAN'T SOLO

It's just a harmless gimmick to make use of all this waste of a MMO

the class being advertised as solo content and not balanced for party play, but 3/4ths of is skills and achievements are locked to instance-only content with zero infrastructure to actually follow that is another separate issue entirely.

that it's mandatory (healer BLU role straight up does not exist without it due to the necessary potency bumps on heals/shields, for example) and horribly inconvenient is the issue, not simply that it invovles other people/multiplayer. got a raid for 012S going to try and push for those exclusive achievements and everyone's takign it super seriously? better waste 15 minutes running through town trying to find someone holding a glowy stick who isnt a goth or dragoon in casual glam.

Blue Mage and Mime are two entirely different jobs.
Aetherial Mimicry is an implementation of Mime's ability.

They're not that different, clearly, otherwise Blue Mage wouldn't be getting it's skills.

To be frank though, I don't really care either way, the spell being a vague allusion to some mime ability doesn't somehow make it less annoying to use.

it IS specifically called out as a more advanced implementation/application of what blue mage does during the class quests, since not only is it instant it's also not limited to just monsters.

like, literally BLU-but-better, overshadowing the class completely in it's own quests (and only ekeing out the win because the practitioner himself simply didnt have the same fight experience that you do)

Actually, that fight points out the inherit flaw of Mimicry. You need someone else to mimic. He uses mime on you in the fight, and just like in FFV, you beat it by doing nothing. Then he moves on to using techniques he's mimicked over the years, and by that point, it's not any more or less effective than Blue Mage.

As for the subject at hand, I like the fact that we need someone else's aether to mimic. I like walking up to someone who's actively moving or not afk, mimicking them, and then bowing to them as a gesture of, "Thanks for being here." Not only that, but you can mimic other BLUs for DPS mimicry, so that one is basically a non-issue.

The only time I haven't been able to find someone to mimic is in the early morning hours, like 5~8am EST. After that, the EU on NA DC usually get on, remedying the problem.

Of course, part of me wants has to mention that we learn this from a Ghrah, an FFXI monster, and the Ghrahs in FFXI transformed into their animal or man counterpart from an orb at will.
