DOL: More depth {Can I have it?}

Hi.

I'd like to see more depth in DoL classes.
I heard botanist is getting a garden when player housing is implemented, which is a huge step in a good direction.

But what about miner? I'd really like to see some depth put into this class.

In other news: I'm mining and suicide is becoming so tempting...

I'd be satisfied with just mining... in... a mine.

That's underground, does that count as depth?

I found Mining and Gathering jobs in general to be much more entertaining and manageable with an ample helping of Netflix and dual screens.

I'd like FFXI's fishing back. A lot of things in XI involving crafting were pretty bleh, but the fishing was a fun minigame I thought. Better than what XIV has at least.

A while back they mentioned treasure maps that can only be read by DoLs. Haven't heard much since.

2 monitors is a must for this game!!

I read somewhere that they plan on adding rare nodes that you can spawn somehow with rare items in them.

As a lvl 50 miner I strongly agree that we need more content for DOL's.

yeah but spawning rare nodes is the same thing still; I'd like something for miner as garden is to botanist.

also, I hate 16:9 monitors, is there an ammount of inches in which you stop noticing how small it is height wise?

Honestly thought I'd rather like to see NPCs roaming the fields LIVE; mining & chopping & fishing (even herding ^^).

also when are the settlements going to get underway it's been months since anything has been said about them and still not much else is known.

I agree with Op Miji more depth is a good thing.

In the roundmap, they mentioned in 2.0 there'll be Treasure Maps for DoL too. So there is something about it in the near future.

Btw, also i hope fishing will be like FF11 in that sort of minigame or more dynamic in any case. I really don't like in this state..

Maybe miner should be made more into an explorer job; with skills that draw enemies away from a certain location, then have these rare nods placed in mob infested areas.

Or maybe they could spice things up by adding different kinds of mini games to mining... The current one is melting my brain and I'm just a level 14 miner

It would be nice if you had a plot of land attached to your house that you could do with what you liked.

Set up a garden to grow plants (Botany)
Set up a pond to raise fish in. (Fishing)
Set up a personal mine shaft (Mining) << this is kind of a joke but I dunno what else a miner could do.

Later they could add shepherd and you could raise animals and whatnot, it would be like harvestmoon in the world of Erozea.

Fish for gold? But instead of gold... rare materia? You know, with that weird filter thing miners use. And the % of finding rare materia could go up based on the amount of mining you have done lately.

Yes, I'd like to have -10 to +10 on the depth gauge

I was wondering (and can not recall if this has been officially stated or not) but will there be 'Jobs' for DoL (or DoH) much like there is for DoW/DoM ?

I understand the emphasis will be on DoW/DoM here, which I can understand, but I do hope they also encourage more variety/content for those of us who like to do a bit of DoL/DoH on the side ^.^ (of course not at the same rate as DoW/DoM content).

As for options for Miners:
-- Tool Enhancement: Skill that can tweak/customize a mining tool for their needs. For example, decrease Output by 50% to increase Perception by 50%

-- Drilling Machine: 'Spiritbond' a tool on one specific mining point, and it can be 'enhanced' into a 'Drilling' machine that will drill that spot for you all the time (limit one drilling machine, slow rate of drill, does not interfere with others).

-- Excavate: Build a basement for your house or underground lair o.o!

-- Tunnel: Build a tunnel from your allotment to your friends allotment so you can go around easily for a chat ^.^

-- Survey & Claim: Quest to find your own personal mining spot, does not interfere with others

-- Grand Company Miner's License: Quest to get a license, so if you mine on behalf of your GC (in GC areas), you get extra reward (items turn directly into seals). Also grants access to GC only mines. And access to mining points in enemy strong holds.

I don't believe there has been anything official in favor of jobs for either DoH/L.

They have, however, stated that they had "something in mind" for something akin to the DoW/M "Artifact Armor".


Also, digging a hole under your house as a MIN makes me think of minecraft, lol.

I want a Goblin Whistle Fragment.

Every 100 or so strikes you'll come across a rare/ex item called the 'Goblin Whistle Fragment'. Once you collect the first piece a timer begins counting down on the item itself. You'll be given a general area of about 3-4 square to search in. As you run around you can equip the fragment and blow it. If you are far away it sounds more like your blowing spit in a tube. The closer you get the more sharp and whistle'y it becomes. Once you play a modiifed version of Hot and Cold with sound you use your pick on an area of the ground and pick up a new fragment. Which now comes the finished "Goblin Whistle".

This 5x use neck item will summon an NPC Goblin to assist you in your mining efforts at whatever node you findyourslef at for 15 minutes. He has Triple yield and scores rare items very often.


A little something to distract from the grind and actually make us pay attention. Plus a reward for seeking out the second fragment.

Would be nice to see fishing mini game be a little more i dunno, like fishing?

Maybe have the mouse/analog move the pole in that direction, be able to reel in and let out line. could even add some dual shock shaking if your about to break your line. (Plus visual/audio cues for pc users/those who dislike dual shock) Make it a little more interactive. Maybe make fly fishing more like fly fishing. Perhaps when fishing you watch for some fins or fish cresting and thats where you aim your fly.

As far as Housing areas besides Gardens for Botany, you could have a stream comming from a rocky outcropping that you can pan sift for metals like in the gold rush. Maybe upgrade it to a full river (or in reverse upgrade a river to have a outscrop stream flow into it) for fishing (Or change fishing to "Fancy name for animal involved crafting/livestock rearing)") Or add a 4th DOL for Mammal centered livestock/chocobo rearing)

As far as other skills for the DOLs, Pan Sifting could be a good way to find other materials and make use of already made rivers. If you shift Mining over to say, Geology you can expand into locating hidden caves. Maybe locating Aether trails (for some sort of aether capture) Find oil deposits (i'll call him Exxon Valdese, a Lala kingpin) And perhaps locating unaspected crystals (that can then make use of aether capture to transform them into the crystal type you want)

Fishing seems tougher UNLESS SE is willing to put in some quality animations. If so i have some ideas; Put the ferry to use. Add an option from ferry for diving. Ferry goes out and does a "random circuit" as you dive for treaure. Unless theres actual swimming animations they may have to just show you diving in and then bobbing back up for air for your next attempt. For diving in add a mini game (heres a type of skill where the Hot/cold type of mini game would make more sense) You get a grid and by clicking locations in the grid, you attempt to find hidden treasure or spearfish deep sea creatures. Let folks trace a route on the grid. A good guess and some RNG for how much of that route you traced (Think pencil drawing on MS paint) You can complete before comming up for air. Find the spot with the loot by trying to guess its direction from your past attempts. (marco polo?)

Other "Fishing" Ideas. Hatcheries; Added to your housing. You cultivate young fish from a few you've caught. Then by releasing them in a lake of your choice you add an effect. Maybe Bonus rate for all fishers to catch that type of fish. Maybe Bonus to catching that fish and a predetory fish that shares that location (More food for the predetors) And also lets you cultivate Clams with a chance to produce pearls, white and black, and maybe some with magical effects or special colors. Or just give you steady supply of the fish you cultivate provided you feed them.

If you make a mammal centered DOL (or large animal DOL) you can focus Fishing towards Fish and smaller animals such as insects. Maybe a net to catch butterflies/bugs. Collect them and make butterfly collages that could even look like the Leve plates. or use them to convert a rough pattern resembling a Screen shot into a Butterfly collauge item to hang in your house. (probably wouldnt be very detailed but it could still be neat) Could also use insects to produce Dyes. (which is an actual use) Provide new options for bait.

For botany they have already talked about Home gardens. But what else? Well it is Final fantasy, there are walking trees and plants. your your rearing animals and Chocobos, why not rear a baby Treant or some other type of plant creature. If you shear sheep for wool maybe you tickle treats for leaves? Need more Belladona? koochi koochi koo!
And way out there, maybe some sort of Tree climbing for eggs, or baby birds for the Animal rearing DOL. Could be neat to have some vanity pet birds you raised land on your shoulder, tweet a song and fly around you.

I don't have many ideas to add to the list, since you all seem to have it covered, but I think DoL would be greatly improved by this secondary function/mini game. An alternative way to get items (maybe unique) aside from running out and gathering is a great idea. I'm just stumped about miner as well.
